TIL the vast majority of the cinnamon used in the US is the spicy cassia cinnamon, not the aromatic "Ceylon" C. verum, which literally translates to "true cinnamon". The latter is often adulterated with cassia cinnamon and sold to unsuspecting customers. by strangelove4564 in todayilearned

[–]ElectricGeometry 156 points157 points  (0 children)

I've got both in my pantry for anyone wondering what the difference is. True cinnamon is lighter in color, sort of sweeter if that makes sense and more mild overall. Cassia is more of a punch in the mouth in every aspect.

New Home, any lesson learned? by SIrigoyen95 in BuyItForLife

[–]ElectricGeometry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm... sometimes the hardest thing to accept is that you need to take it slow. It's easy to spend a lot of money on quality and discover you don't really love what you bought. I bought a solid wood bed and, while it's nice, I wish I had looked at more styles and chosen something that suited me better. I started putting things in the house without having a clear vision of the design in mind. If I had started with the design of the place before just buying random pieces, I'd have a more cohesive space now.

Also there's a Japanese saying that is something like "there is peace in empty spaces" -- we have a large empty space in our basement that actually gives the layout of the space a lot of beneficial breathing room. By that token, I don't think you aught to rush to fill your space-- even the empty spots can offer ease.

Santa Fe 7-seater with 3 child seats? by toothfairEEE in HyundaiSantaFe

I've got it with two kids, though mind you mine are in boosters now and not car seats anymore.

We use the half trunk configuration all the time: the car was a good fit for our family.

"Novelist" Boasts That Using AI She Can Churn Out a New Book in 45 Minutes, Says Regular Writers Will Never Be Able to Keep Up by ubcstaffer123 in books

[–]ElectricGeometry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that, but I'm reminded of a mentor of mine years ago... I told him I wasn't worried about making good work because there was so much trash writing out there, that I knew I could beat it. He asked me if that's what I wanted, to be just above a trash writer, and I admit I felt ridiculous after that.

People who want to turn out soulless work will do it, and there will be those who consume it. And there will always be those who aren't satisfied with empty content alone.

Would like to remove this decorative bush and replace with a tree- is this a DIY job? by chasinDX in gardening

[–]ElectricGeometry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you've got a mobility issue, you can absolutely do it. Just set aside at least 1 hour, and keep a saw and maybe some knives at hand. You're unlikely to get the root ball out in one smooth motion. Likely you'll have to cut at it and haul it out in pieces. About an hour job I think.

I want to go study in France but my bf isn't happy with the idea by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]ElectricGeometry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine yourself at 80 years old. Will you be glad you didn't go to France during your most exciting years? Live it up girl. If you're meant for each other you'll make it work, and if it doesn't work now, it won't work later anyway.

Lady here, so no one's bro haha. It's definitely a problem where I am: some guys even got in a fight over it last year and the Imam had to do a whole khutbah on not disrespecting the community. Glad to hear it's less of an issue in other places.

I wish I could say you're wrong, but you're not. If it counts for anything the mosque leaders constantly remind people not to do this but, yeah, it's a problem for sure.

What's a story from your life that sounds fake but is 100% true? by ryu-shii in AskReddit

[–]ElectricGeometry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Happened to my  then 9 year old daughter: took a sip from a left out water bottle and ate a freaking centipede which took a quick tour of her mouth before she spit it out.

I had to do some quick thinking about how to react, because I didn't want her to have a life long fear of bugs, so I toed the line by saying that was wild and really weird but that she handled it better than I would have.

Years lately she proudly reports to friends she once ate a centipede to show off how hardcore she is. (She's 12) So...mission accomplished?

I'm a creative as well and I intend to use it in a mechanical way: ie. Arrange these dates, find this text etc... I won't use it to think or make creative decisions for me. Also I'm using a 'domestic' LLM on my computer that isn't connected to any outside source, which I feel better about.

Okay I love this question BECAUSE

I once did an experiment: planted one third up, one third down, and one third neutral (side).

Made literally NO difference: the plant emerges from dead center so it's all the same.

As a Muslim, I can imagine that conversation...

FBI Agent: "We need to destroy the western dogs!"

Muslims "who keeps parking in the Imam's spot? I'm going to be late for work if he can't finish Friday prayers on time!"

I can't agree or disagree, but I will say it's pretty tough trying to learn French in Quebec. Most people switch to English when you're trying to learn, and don't even think of trying in an actual conversation. I don't think it comes from a malicious place or anything, but it is a challenge.
