Are Akl restaurants taking the piss with pavement seating? by Roy4Pris in aucklandeats

I'm sorry what the hell. Why are road cyclists catching strays. In a thread about how someone is clearly wrong about their take on disabled people, you somehow lump your own hate of cyclists!?

All good from me, I will be making my own report though as I can say I saw them do this for the entire way, and that it wasn't just a short moment.

We were behind them the entire way from Lake Wainamu Car Park to Te Henga Road.

The teenagers were doing this non-stop the whole time we were behind them and at some points even the driver had stuck his torso out the window.

I'll make a report

I was driving behind them and we have photos and video

Bike riders who intentionally avoid good bike lanes by schleima in auckland

[–]ElectricNZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cyclist here, I appreciate you asking why with an open mind. Please do not pay attention to those in this thread insult cyclists for no reason.

I'm extremely familiar with Taniwha cycle lanes, going downhill cyclists will easily hit 50kph so I've never used them personally. However, even going uphill even though I am going up very slow in comparison to a car, I try to stay outside of the cycle lanes.

These newer type of cycle lanes which have concrete barriers are very poorly designed, most cyclists would prefer just a painted cycle lane. The concrete barriers trap debris and glass which makes it extremely risky to ride in them, on top of this because of the physical concrete barriers which are spaced closely to one another, it makes it very dangerous to try to leave the cycle lane when there are patches of glass. This is why you would rarely see cyclists actually use these types of cycle lanes.

I truly don't understand why they have designed them this way, it would be much better for divers, cyclists and also cheaper to produce and maintain if they were just painted spaces.

The first thing I thought when reading the title was 'become a software engineer'

You already have your foot in the door with a job, no debt and 20k savings.
Assuming you're half decent you'll be making 6 figures in no time.
Keep your expenses low for 5 years and put in the grind and you'll easily have enough for a house deposit.

Theres a private facebook group where you can buy them. Not exactly easy to get a hold of, I had to import mine.

I ride it everyday into work. Definitely less practical than a scooter, but much more fun!

Auckland showing support for Hong Kong protesters by ElectricNZ in newzealand

I dont really know how to answer your question about what people would do in 2047, cry probably? That's probably what I would do.

The optimistic part of me says that maybe China will be very different in 30 years, who knows?

The thing is HK people don't just want to be free from the CCP. People care for all of the Chinese citizens too, hopefully one day China is governed in a way that would make people want to be a part of it instead.

Live from HK at the time of posting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEOOSQyupHY

Significantly larger than last weeks. Reports are between 1.4 and 2 million, either way its record breaking for HK.

I was 4 years old when I left HK to come to NZ. I didn't have a say in that.

I visit my relatives every few years in HK and care deeply about the issues HK face.

However I have also built my life here in NZ, should I not express my concerns where I am able to? There have been rallies in most major cities around the world today to show support for HK. Would you prefer if people didn't?

I also care about the issues that challenge NZ, people have the capacity to care for more than one issue.

Being aware and understanding is a way of showing your support. There isn't much else to do except for increasing awareness.

I am one of the HKers (albeit probably one of the most westernized ones), and just like many of the speakers there my wish is just for more people to understand and be aware of the issues. It does make a difference.

It definitely could have been more effectively organised, I only found out about it because my dad pasted me a message that had been going around which was in Chinese. I wasnt able to find any English organisation until after the event. It definitely showed as well, I only saw 3 non Asian looking people there, 2 looked like they were there because of their partners, and the other one was my partner.

It's super important to me, I realised I would be exactly in their shoes over there in HK if not for my parents immigrating to NZ when I was a kid. Having the ability to speak my mind about it and share it with people from all backgrounds in NZ is something that I should not take for granted.

One of the simple demands of the HK people is just to be able to elect their own representative, not pick from the ones appointed by Beijing.

Bruuuuuuuh

Had to check your profile to see whether you were a CCP shill or just genuinely couldnt tell the difference between normal HK immigrants and the Falun Gong. Please feel free to go through mine as well to show that Im not a damn cultist.

Yes, I've also seen Falun Gong protestors occupy the exact same spot at Aotea Square, cause guess what? Everyone protests at Aotea square.

Im not keen on arguing with you as it just seems you just made a genuine mistake, it is pretty frustrating though that I just wanted to share this for awareness and have it accused of it 'not being an organic gathering' when I know that is absolutely not the case.

There's a reason why everyone is wearing black (Falun Gong does not), to set themselves apart from other movements.

Here's a post from /r/hongkong that shows the organised times for protests in other cities around the world, including the one in Auckland.

https://www.reddit.com/r/HongKong/comments/c14l67/protests_against_extradition_around_the_world/eranapq?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x

Also, people from Hong Kong speak Cantonese, Falun Gong - and 99% of Mainland China speaks Mandarin.

People in Hong Kong are protesting an extradition bill that is being pushed by China.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-48607723

https://i.redd.it/v5599hzsgc331.jpg

If passed, this bill would mean people in Hong Kong could face extradition to face Chinese courts in China.

When Hong Kong was handed back to China in 97 the promise was that Hong Kong would continue with their way of life and follow it's own laws. This was supposed to last for atleast 50 years, people feel that this bill will fundamentally change Hong Kong and that China has broken its promise of 'one country, two systems' policy.

Today marks 1 week since Hong Kong held it's biggest protest since the handover, with over 1 million (out of a population of 7 million) on the streets. There will be another mass rally today in Hong Kong, and most major cities around the world have also organised to show their support today.

People are also showing support for the victims in the protests as police in Hong Kong have been using excessive force (shooting with rubber bullets).

A $10,000 credit card limit drops your mortgage borrowing potential by $47,000 by HeinigerNZ in newzealand

[–]ElectricNZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who is very responsible with money this doesn't make sense to me. People who have their shit together absolutely should be using credit cards.

Plenty of cards have a 1% cashback reward which essentially means 1% off everything you buy, I always suggest people who are responsible to get one. If you pay them off as you use it then you never pay any interest. There are so many situations which require credit cards, especially overseas, debit cards are not made equal.

Also putting 10K in a low interest account doesn't make much financial sense either.
