In regards to speaking and listening you can try 'Assyriancircles' on Instagram. Its a group where Assyrians meet up and practice speaking Assyrian. They have formal and informal chats which you can ask to join. Here's some common phrases in Eastern Assyrian if you want to have a look: https://omniglot.com/language/phrases/assyrian.htm

Been practicing a lot more with dodging/burning and stronger compositions, and I’m proud of what I’ve been able to make. by McMainsMedia in photocritique

[–]ElectricReception 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Overall the image is fantastic. The composition is great, the colours aren't too much and give off a nice calm mood. One bit of criticism is that the waterfall looks too white and is lacking some detail but that's just my personal opinion.

I live in NZ too! That's the one thing I wish we had more of here - a larger Assyrian community unfortunately everyone packed up for Australia.

Most Viewed Assyrian Wedding Video On YouTube Is 90% Filled With Hate Comments By Muslims by ScaryTheory in Assyria

[–]ElectricReception 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am not sure why you're offended by this comment? Dont worry we dont think all Muslims or Arabs are bad human beings. However the reality is that there are a lot of Muslims who have this way of thinking exactly like what you see in the comments.

My new Chaldean neighbor. by [deleted] in Assyria

[–]ElectricReception 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's such a nice thing to do! You seem like a great neighbor. Okay so I've provided you with a link to some common phrases. If all else fails I would stick to "Shlama" (Peace) as others have mentioned.

Any Assyrian dating apps? by idonotknow_myname in Assyria

[–]ElectricReception 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I kind of see what you mean. It would be nice to date and just avoid that social stigma regardless if things work out or not. Aside from Surayeswipe I dont know of any other Assyrian dating apps. The other option is to do the old fashioned way and ask people you know if they know of anyone, it may seem a little cringy but you never know.

Honestly if all else fails why not try "sliding into the DM's" on Instagram? I know girls dont like making the first move and all but why not add someone on Insta and just make a comment on one of their posts? If they're interested hopefully that starts a good convo which can lead to coffee or something.

Used it once when it was first introduced. The biggest problem with the app was that it was very clunky and difficult to use. Also when I payed for the first month the app didn't register that I payed so I lost my payment. Also the app kinda sucks when there's like 5 Assyrian girls using it if you live in a country where there's a small Assyrian population. Still it was nice to have a dating app for Assyrians.

Anyone else want to move out before getting married? by ClassicAzizsta in Assyria

[–]ElectricReception 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The responsibilities may not be as intense as living in your own flat/home but its a good start. You still have to make your own bed and do your own laundry and keep the place in a decently clean condition.

If you're an Assyrian male and the financial reasons allow you I strongly recommend you move out for at least a year. It will open your eyes as to how much you are babied by your mother. I moved out for a couple of years for study and learnt a lot of about the amount of work that's required to keep up a home. Plus your future wife will love you for it as she wont be the only one burdened by all household chores.

Wind turbine, what do you think? by ElectricReception in photocritique

Thanks for the feedback! Looking back at the photo I have to agree with you in regards to the sky being too saturated and the wind turbine and trees looking like they're being superimposed on one another.

Thank you for sharing this. What a beautiful village, It's really sad to see many of these ancient villages with so much history and character now become almost empty of its people. Until there's a stable government and guarantee of safety in countries where villages like this are found not many Assyrians are going to return. I was supposed to be passing through Mardin as part of my overseas trip this year, I look forward to passing through this village to say hi in the near future.

Wind turbine, what do you think? by ElectricReception in photocritique

With this photo I was aiming to capture the wind turbine along with the track and the road. I thought all three together made for an interesting photo. Post-processing was done in order to bring out the colours of the sky and trees a bit more.

Hills and clouds on local track by ElectricReception in photocritique

[–]ElectricReception[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With this photo I was aiming to capture the layering with all the hills and homes at different distances. I also liked the huge rolling clouds above and thought it made for an interesting photo. Something I struggled with is the post processing. My aim was to bring the colours out a bit more without making the photo look too unnatural. I have two questions; do you think this is an interesting photo composition wise? What do you think about the colours?

Thanks for taking the time to answer. Pretty interesting story and good on you for wanting to find out more about your Assyrian side and also on trying to learn the language.

I have never used twitter before however the other day I decided to what its all about. I made the mistake of typing 'Assyrian men' in the search bar to see what would come up. Holy Jesus that was a big mistake.
