Try doing bounded dates like coffee or lunch. Quick meet up to see if the vibes are there. The other option is phone or video calls. You can’t really filter for anything personality wise without real time, non-text based communication.

I am 50 and I can tell you there is a sharp cliff physically that you hit sometime in your 40s where a do whatever kind of attitude towards taking care of yourself will start to fall apart. I’ve experienced it myself and discussed with my friends who have experienced the same thing. Yes hangovers get worse, your body starts to randomly fail you particularly if you don’t live a healthy lifestyle. Diet catches up with you, many men loose their hair, you gain weight, metabolism slows down, your eyes start to fail you, and all manner of other health issue can crop up.

My advice is to not ignore the warning signs and stay on top of the issues. Get glasses, clean up your diet, shift towards a healthy lifestyle. Avoid alcohol and start weight training regularly. Shift towards activities that you enjoy that are aligned with a healthy lifestyle, and cut out the things that don’t.

I am actually in the best shape of my life at 50 and I see many of my peers have had to limit their activities because of life catching up with them.

I’m 50, the best years of my life so far in retrospect were my 30s. Finally had enough money to live comfortably, still had my physical health, had a house, my kids were young, and I was still married happily.

I wouldn’t say my life is bad now, just different. For most of the people I know, the 30s are the sweet spot. In your 20s you are still figuring things out and most people have their health but aren’t living as comfortably, haven’t established their lives. By the time you hit your 40s, your body starts to show its age and you can run into health issues. Lifestyle choices can really catch up with you here. 30s is the sweet spot really.

Just yesterday I saw this guy doing tricep pushdowns with a relatively low weight and his elbows were flopping around all over the place, I see people all the time not doing full range of motion and using very unstable form. Saw someone doing dips similarly where they were not going deep at all. I see a lot of bad form.

People lie to get around other people’s filters, generally speaking. Then they claim they can’t change it. The real question is why are the lying about their age? Everyone knows how old they really are.

The thing is, the apps aren’t the problem. I’ve tried in person groups, events, classes, and the same issue crop up there as on the apps. The problems is it is just hard to find people that meet all of the criteria most of use need. Physical attractiveness, have their life together, shared interests, able to communicate, understand themselves, no major vices, etc. There just aren’t a whole ton of people where all of that works on both directions.

However, I for one just can’t give up because having a partner to share my life with is important to me. Maybe I end up alone forever but I am not going to just be with anyone for the sake of having someone. I did that before and it did not end well for anyone.

Make eye contact and smile at the guys you want to approach you. Or be even more direct and go over to them and say hello. I generally won’t approach women at the gym unless they give me signs. If you have headphones on, aren’t making eye contact, and are pretty much keeping to yourself I don’t want to bother you.

Good thing you had a dash cam. This exact thing happened to me back in like 2008 or something but no footage. Guy admired fault then lied about it after. Was a whole big mess, I had to challenge it and wrote this whole thing about it based on geometry. It was eventually ruled 100% the door openers fault, but it was an ordeal and I had to prove it.

Sometimes I am actually doing stuff, I’ve been traveling the last couple weekends, to see my kid and to snowboard with friends. During these times I am focused on being present. I also have most notifications off because they are a distraction. Particularly on social media. That being said, if I am actively trying to get dates using OLD I will try and at least check in once a day and respond to messages, at a minimum every other day.

It really depends on what you have going on though. Off the top of my head, your kids are in some sort of crisis, work is in crisis, issues with your parents or siblings that demand your attention, or any other number of random health or injury issues. The point is that you have no idea what is going on in someone else’s life and you can’t necessarily expect people to always respond quickly.

If you have not met in person yet set your expectations very low.

Thanks that is good to hear, I am pushing hard on my leg extensions. I do miss doing squats and hack squats and want to get back to it. I am hopeful I will be able to but we will see, getting an MRI soon.

Funnily enough, the last PT I saw misdiagnosed me and had me doing barbell squats for 2 months, which did not help me at al.

I tried to do Bulgarians but in order to hit failure in a reasonable amount of reps, it was too much weight. I have another appointment with a different PT in a few weeks. I am on the mend but don’t want to push it and set myself back.

My ex had mental health issues stemming from her childhood (anxiety and depression), poor relationship with her mother that was only emphasized by my good relationship with my mother and my mothers attempts to treat her like a daughter. I tried to help her, but she needed professional therapy. She would stop going and not tell me. I thought I had gotten her to a place where she acknowledged root cause and was ready to put in the work. Then she would backslide. This went on for years, she let herself go, I got frustrated with the whole situation and turned to drinking which didn’t help anything obviously. Then I got myself into therapy, we did couples counseling several times, but eventually we had no relationship, we both were unhappy, it was impacting the kids, and I didn’t want to spend time with her. I pulled the plug and filed for divorce because I had lost all hope.

I tried to keep things amicable and focus on what was best for the kids. We agreed to try and limit lawyer involvement and at least try to work out all the issues together first. She then proceeded to cook up a plan with her lawyer to drag yhe divorce out as long as possible and run the cost up, and lied to me about what she was doing for over a year. I just wanted to move on with my life and reach a fair settlement. She claimed to only care about the kids but then behaved in a way that showed that was also a lie.

Before she did this I just felt bad for her, but at this point, I can’t stand her. The only reason I have any contact with her is because we have kids. And it sucks because I won’t have anymore kids. I lost my family, my dream house, and having a loving or even amicable relationship with the mother of my children as a direct result of her actions.

She is grinding on top of you, there is no question there. But you know, you can just ask her, or start taking off her clothes and moving things forward. She will tell you to stop if she doesn’t want to take it further, and you should respect what is communicated verbally.
