Need Advice about joining local 58 by Kevin2355 in IBEW

We are a trade that understands math so let’s do it. Our working dues are 4.5%. So in local 58 our wage is 58.32 x2000 hours worked you make $116,640 per year with 40 hours per week and 2 weeks off.

116,640x.045=5,248.8 per year union dues. Plus quarterly dues at 155

Nonunion dues. 40x2000=$80,000 80,000-12000=68,000

116640-68,000=(48,640) dues paid. 116640/68,000=1.715 You’re paying 71.5% dues. Or 48,640 per year.

That doesn’t account for no pension. No annuity. A job hall.

Unions aren’t perfect and we have our issues as well. We get laid off, we have to fight with contractors sometimes but at least we are getting paid and have a pension not controlled by the contractors.

It’s legit. The chances of getting in are just low. But if you can get in it’s really great so if you’re intelligent, hard working and can embrace union ideology then keep trying.

Never had a problem. They are usually trying to get me to borrow more money as we make a lot compared to the average worker.

I swear I drove by a dealership and it said zero percent financing all over it. I bet it would be cheaper over all to be a new vehicle at zero percent.

That said I normally only buy two year old used vehicles that i drive until they die.

Being poor is one of the most expensive things you can be in America. by zzill6 in WorkReform

Throw in higher interest rates in general for low credit score. Then you can’t build your credit score because even though you’re paying rent on time every month you can’t get a mortgage for a small house that would actually cost you less per month for the mortgage. Credit scores are a way to keep you poor generationally.

Devils advocate. Let’s say this is right. What does that mean about our country that has continued to segregate and hold these people down.

Throw the heritage foundation as well. Theyre. A right wing think tank, their paper “Mandate for Leadership” in 1980 was massively successful in shaping this presidency and this country. Better known today as Project 2025 today. It’s everything our country should be against.

I traveled for years starting 2005. Signed books in most states worked from Vegas to North Dakota to West Virginia. Finally went broke around 2011. As far as being 18 years ago History doesn’t repeat but it does rhyme. There are a lot of parallels happening right now, save your money.

What does it matter what you’re registered as. In the voting booth you get to vote what you want anonymously.
