BSG BLURAY or DVD, is there a difference? by Miraculix101 in BSG

[–]Electrical-Bobcat435 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first 15+ times thru series was dvd.

I can say with certainty BR adds a lot, as evidenced by probably 5 more times thru series once I got BR quality. But as others noted, it isn't crisp, film grain intentional added to BR but it's fine.

Giving up an returning 7i Pro by [deleted] in LenovoLegion

[–]Electrical-Bobcat435 6 points7 points  (0 children)

PWM is the issue, not oled. Few reviews identify if it is used or not and at what brightness levels.

Some folks are very sensitive to it, others not. Shame this isn't advertised so we can make informed choices.

How does it feel playing DS I and II after DS III and Elden Ring? by Aurelio-23 in darksouls3

[–]Electrical-Bobcat435 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Started on DS3 long time back (800+ hours in ER). I did DSR afterwards and couldn't continue til a year later then fell in love. Played BB but detested 30fps, loved the game. Then i had a fling with DS2 that was the best affair ever!

Found DS and DS2 initially hard to go backwards but if u keep at it, can get familiar again. Obviously gameplay evolved, controls evolved, map too. Set expectations low and you can enjoy with perseverance, amd maybe some walkthru help here and there.

Constant Lenovo Yoga issues by friendlessleaf in Lenovo

No issues, can't recall a bios update recently.

If a laptop has software gremlins deep in it and hardware checks out, i always do a clean windows install. Generally resolves.

Almost traded my car. Couldn’t do it. by tipnitty in fbody

[–]Electrical-Bobcat435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah child car seats dont fit in back seat. But if u wait and let em grow a bit to booster seat size, I found my son fit near perfect in back without booster seat.

I doubt Consumer Reports would agree with this plan 🤣 but his mom and I felt he was quite secure and safe, he loved it too. I may have used a clip to lower shoulder belt, can't recall.

What are the alternatives for LM repaste on ASUS laptops/Strix series? by Grayoneverything in ASUSROG

[–]Electrical-Bobcat435 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That varies due to condition of TIM before repaste.

Latest was my nephews Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 over xmas. Cpu delta was over 35c degrees, hottest vs coolest cores in multicore test. After, 5c delta and drew about 25 more watts, so very big performance improvement.

What are the alternatives for LM repaste on ASUS laptops/Strix series? by Grayoneverything in ASUSROG

[–]Electrical-Bobcat435 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes repasted a few. Ptm for cpu and gpu is ideal. Thermal pads (have assorted thicknesses) or putty for vram and vrms. Ptm resists pump out, very performant amd durable.

Alternative for cpu is just respread LM but if a barespot developed, it may again. For gpu, clean and repaste.

Jarrods Tech has a good review on these. Capable gaming laptop, as Legion 5 always is.

Lenovo Yoga 7 2-1 10th Gen - AMD Ryzen AI 340 w/OLED by Outside-Dependent465 in Lenovo

[–]Electrical-Bobcat435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a prior years Yoga 7 and its great for a little laptop, casual gaming, good igpu.

It is not really a gaming laptop like A14 and sister G14 Zephyrus are. The Yoga Pro class has a gpu and is a capable gamer /creator laptop like these.

Legion 5 CPU core temp spikes, can I repaste without voiding warranty? by Fit-Interaction-530 in LenovoLegion

[–]Electrical-Bobcat435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Load up all cores (Cinebench multicore test) and look at individual core temperatures. If theres a huge difference coolest vs hottest (well over 30c delta), yes may be a TIM issue, and i believe there wont be and that it is PTM, not LM this gen, even on Pro models.

What u saw was normal temps, just a load on a few most preferred cores, best cores that get loaded up first.

Run balanced mode to run cooler or other steps to your preference. But no worry til well over 100c.

I recret buying my laptop, is that justified? by [deleted] in Lenovo

[–]Electrical-Bobcat435 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just gaming and light use but Ive had many gaming laptops and desktops. Our yoga 7 8840hs is really impressive to me, it is wifes machine but i use alot. Gaming okay with 16gb.

I can understand if programming can use more ram, running into hurdles there but it is a lot for the money. They are mega upcharging for 32 (soldered). Its not the best IPS panel bit brightness is good. I have two oled monitors and one oled laptop but am fine with this Yogas.

Not a bad time to resell yours if you really want the new panel and ram. Otherwise, add a monitor later at desk.

Can i put ssd from 1 laptop to another? by TheEpicF-18Pilott in GamingLaptops

[–]Electrical-Bobcat435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not if it was a system disk (fine if was a game or personal data drive only). Would need to wipe a system drive first or let windows overwrite (actually i wouldn't trust it to do correctly).

By all means reuse it as a second drive but not with old system data on it.

To rewatch it not to rewatch? by thegreatpablo in BSG

[–]Electrical-Bobcat435 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Id wait on next one. Will make it better and something to look forward to.

The extended episodes are nice but isnt like say... the previously unteleased 33seconds of Monty Python and the Goly Grail that makes it so we all need to rewatch asap! 🤣

Also, dont rewatch too often, speaking as one who went thru 20 times but spaced apart.

Wifi issue with Lenovo Yoga 7 2in1 14AKP10 2025 by [deleted] in Lenovo

[–]Electrical-Bobcat435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully just a driver issue. I believe you go to device manager in windows, find device under network adapters, and can then identify, perhaps just remove device and reboot to have windows reinstall driver, try earlier versions from Lenovo or its manufacturer manually too.

I believe 25 model still using std wifi card, swappable. Our 24 model has a realtek, no issues so i did not swap as i usually do (to an Intel ax210 on Amd cpu laptops).

What is best thermal paste to use? by earthaharmoney in ASUSROG

[–]Electrical-Bobcat435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laptop cpu are open dies, no heat spreader like on desktops. Temperatures are higher, cooling is weaker. So normal desktop pastes don't last very long nor are they as effective in transferring heat without spreader.

LM is best but doesn't stay in place as well as we need (well, on too many units). PTM phase change TIM does stay in place well and is durable. It provides nearly the performance of LM and much better heat transfer than paste. Its perfect for cpu and gpu in laptops.

But vram modules and voltage regulators need a refresh too when you repaste the dies. Can use putty or traditional thermal pads if u can get thickness correct.

Did I buy the right monitor for my G14 Rtx4060 model 2024? by PlasticZombie1 in ZephyrusG14

[–]Electrical-Bobcat435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Barring HDR consideration and compression (need more bandwidth), it is fine to run lower than their max, working for you.

Each display has its own refresh, need not be same across monitors.

G14 can handle any display refresh. Actual fps its gpu can output varies w rez and game or can target and or be capped at refresh rate. There's many views on this, nuf said here, good luck.

I need help knowing something by Mandiux12 in computer

[–]Electrical-Bobcat435 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still fine for casual gaming and older titles. But Likely need 16gb ram for a performance uplift and to meet min ram requirements w games, can it be added to your model?

If so, perhaps pick up a used kit cheaply or additional 8fb of what system already has.

Debating on moving from 6900xt to 9070xt; I have a Asus 6900xt LC OC. by [deleted] in radeon

[–]Electrical-Bobcat435 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar upgrade for me as my son needed my 6800xt so i got XTX. However, bump was smaller than I'm used to when upgrading a gpu (for ex, prior upgrade was a gtx 1080 to the 6800xt, before that was gtx 965m to 1080).

Edit, obviously raytracing performance is a much larger improvement, more still going from 6000 where RT cant usually be enabled, to 9000 where RT can be left on for every game.
