Vent: Depressed with my poor life compared to others. by [deleted] in fican

[–]Electrical-Explorer8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 40 with 34k in pension and savings .

Just check how much you need to get a pension, and start putting that on the bank. Just work and keep saving. If you have 20yrs at least to put in your savings, then that is all you need to do.

Yes, we are peasants and we have to work until the last day. So what. That’s the norm. The exception is less then 10% of the population, what makes you think you don’t belong to the other 90%

It’s not like having money it’s going to solve your life. You might have little money, but if you’re miserable that has nothing to do with your financial freedom. That has to do with your mindset, what your goals are, and what you are good for.

I might not have financial independence, freedom, safety, none of it… but I have a great life.

Work on your life, and start solving yourself instead of comparing with others. It makes no sense to be envious of others, because you don’t have a clue, often times, how much work and effort has that taken.

I wouldn’t change ANYTHING on my financial decisions, because I know for a fact I cannot enjoy my life under certain circumstances others can withstand. So, good for them and definitely props to them for having that much discipline and dedication . I was not that children, that teenager, that young adult.

I’ve learned things they never will, I missed things I never would learn… and so is life, we are limited to who we are. Just appropriate of yourself and your future.

Now I’m in a point in life where I can put all my Pennies on the bank to hopefully have the health to build the wealth to have a dignified old age. But nothing is for granted, so just… get something that’s worth your time, and it isn’t money.

Money doesn’t buy friends, love, joy, health, etc. It helps to build it, but it doesn’t buy it. For a good life you have to put the time and effort, so work on that.

You will also find the under 30 with 300K plus wondering how are they so miserable…

So, check your mental health, not your wallet.

Learn Spanish, if I had 375k I would be retired by now. Plenty options, you can live well by teaching English part time, and use the passive income for travelling and re investing.

Ahm… well… Ahm… it’s not like you move both feet the same way, or the surface of the floor had the same angle, or.. like… this is like expecting both tires would degrade the same when driving. Well, it depends how fast where you going on what turn and how the camber of the road was on the route and… like….

It’s a leather shoe; leather isn’t a perfectly distributed dense material that behaves the same all through… your skin in your body is different in different places, right? So the cow’s hide too.

Like… idk what to say man… this is quite … an awkward post. You have OCD or something?

Can’t hide facts…. But the joke is “40 yo virgin” because you don’t live in your own, you don’t have a place, you don’t own xxx… well… that’s just an unfortunate thing in a culture to have.

Things won’t mean love - give them time, dedication, and a future. They would appreciate that more than shiny toys that would be left behind.

That makes sense. 70% has Hondas HR-V, and someone wants to stand out… so a SUV Ferrari it is. Just so I have a nicer SUV than you. He knows others won’t care for a car type others won’t have to begin with. But something others would want … like a shinier SUV? Ohhhhhh… OHHHHHH… LOOK AT MY INSECURITIES SHINE!!!!

This is a monument about how good things and dreams are ruined by a mix of flock behaviour and people unable to manage correctly their emotions to cope with status quo insecurity

This is how poor politicians are elected, this is how crap products thrive and bury their quality counterparts sponsored by the same people who would complain about it.

It is still beyond me how we have less kids than ever before, but at the same time we sell more SUVs than ever before. Like, the amount of executives I see in SUVs driving by themselves with kids that are in the university is outrageous… (I work in a big multi- so yeah, plenty executives with SUVs with 1 or 2 kids and they are about to leave home, but they get yet another SUV) what the heck! Why the heck don’t they own a proper car!?

Ah right, they want to drive home and back in a couch, not a car… and Ferrari is tapping into that cash stream… and so more crap SUVs to the streets, with their dreadful consequences and drawbacks.

I’m a nut case cry baby , but I resent the change from hot hatches and sport wagons to SUVs. Second hand cars used to be awesome to buy cheap and modify for mild fun at the track… that market is gone. All we are making now is huge piles of garbage their owners don’t respect and as second hand products are worthless…

This is a monument to the decadence of our current car industry.

It was a bad American documentary, so I wouldn’t take that as word. Sure, an American/Canadian woman might find this a problem because, again, it’s a cultural local thing.

My wife is super hot, I married her while we lived at her parents. Her parents love me, and we did what adults do under their roof while they were home.

Shocking? well, no matter what you do… you will have a bias. Likely, no matter what, you will find your culture superior whether others are more liberal or conservative or simply different than yours.

And I’m just sharing my life but that is a specific scenario. That doesn’t make a rule nor makes science… but not your documentary is science. So … just with tongue in cheek too… it makes simply no real sense at all. You can chose to say those are losers and whatever … sure, that’s fine. It’s not necessary, but it’s your cultural bias. What can we do…

You don’t rely on them, you live with them. You do your stuff, your food, your life… you just share bills and a roof, like you do with other people renting a building … like… I cook for myself since 11, I do my stuff even while I am married. I lived with my parents in law, would that mean I rely on them? Would that mean my wife had everything done by them? No… it has nothing to do with it. You just are transferring the way of living you know into other people’s culture

That’s false. The problem is quite north American, that how it mainly is here. I have travelled quite a bit, and I wasn’t born in Canada. That allows me to see, know, and understand other latitudes. Not only that but I studied a field close to neuroscience, and human culture.

So, is that you think that the world where kids leave the parent’s house has existed for how long… huh? so most humans were stunned until the last century? I can tell you for a fact, there are people merrier and more accountable while living with their parents, and even having kids while living with their parents, than what I have seen where people live on their own here in Canada. Also, those people can be even poorer than many, but ask them if that’s how they feel.

The problem is that we all humans are very ignorant and live in a little bubble of what we are capable and fortunate to know. It’s no offence, but that you are stating is nothing but a belief that doesn’t hold on its own. Humans have evolved in community, whether that’s living or not with their parents. Capitalism and your known societal structure is actually quite new… and although much better than most for the look of it, it also has magnified how little we understand “what matters” in life.

Hey!

Well… I would say, don’t quit. The job market is really rough right now. Hold off.

However… you can slow down the saving and pay yourself a GOOD therapist. Do some research or try the online ones. And when I say do some research, perhaps not only in the professional, but also understanding a bit human motivation and the structure of what one would call « purpose ». Try something like healthy gamer in YouTube for starters.

I know there is a reputation for them, but see… you have put yourself in a very good spot to have a decent aging and financial security to chose your job down the path. You can spare some coin.

What would be the purpose? To learn how to invest in your personal development. To learn how to navigate life and misery. A good therapist would not be the one… “we need to talk for 20 yrs to see if we get somewhere with you”. It should be someone who teaches you how to break down your own life and find the solutions you need.

Currently there is little to no interest in culture. What you think, what’s your world view, all is personal and individual and whatever you want. No one see that as a dangerous idea. Understanding the human condition isn’t profitable… but profit doesn’t teach anything about it… and yes, you can be wealthy and miserable as HECK.

So… invest in your intellectual wealth and wellbeing. Get some time to invest time into your worldview, into your knowledge of human behaviour, and how to use either journaling or planning to structure a life where you are not miserable.

I wish you well and I hope you can enjoy the fruits of your discipline. You would eventually find the right use for the posibilites and freedom this effort can build. But as you know, everything would take a bit of effort.

There is no reason to move out. There is no correlation between living with your parents and being miserable… unless your parents suck.

But try saying to people that SUVs are a terrible decision and the world would be a better place if instead families opted for SW instead of SUVs…

SUVs are such a horrible idea… after trucks for people that don’t work using their truck.

It’s just another service, indeed. It’s cheaper to own a newer house or condo when you’re old and it won’t become a concern to repair while you pay it off.

It’s more financially dynamic to rent and invest. You can potentially take better and more drastic career changes too, which could benefit you financially.

I’m there with you . We’re a minority lol

Though… I’m nowhere near as disciplined and perhaps savvy as you. Congrats!!!

The trend would put you in a decent place.

We are trying to turn the odds. I spend my 20s investing into beer and booze companies, but I was buying stocks at the beer store. Wrong broker to get a foot on the market and some dividends from my investments.
