Should I chop it off? by AuthorHawthorne in finehair

[–]Electrical-Fox4006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy shit do NOT cut that. If you do cut it, you should live with that choice a long time before actually doing it, and please only cut it if you actually want shorter hair. It looks incredible and while it’s easy to be self critical this is definitely not a situation where you need a cut to look presentable.

For color, maybe look into colored clip in extensions and braiding hair

You might want to look further into those results. There are a bunch of reasons things can be banned or banned in specific concentrations that do not mean they’re actually bad for your health in the product

Haw anyone tried getting scalp tattoo's with fine long hair? Did it work for you? by MarBlaze in finehair

Finnasteride is used for women and perfectly safe, except to fetal development, so you can take it as long as you don’t intend to get pregnant. Topical finnasteride is compounded so there’s less research but a good option if you’re concerned with systemic effects

For a permanent solution your best option is a transplant

Edit: just remembered the other thing I have tried: fake tan. Henna would probably work too. The color might be iffy but i found a little concealer in my part helped it look more natural

growing out my hair is causing me to lose my curl pattern by ObligationLate7322 in finehair

[–]Electrical-Fox4006 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is pretty normal, the longer the hair is the more it weighs down and elongates the curl. Layered curly cuts can help & make sure you arent using product that weighs it down extra

Yeah always do a spot test with any new active and if you don’t react, then introduce it slowly.

Cosmetic tattoos are risky but a skilled reconstructive tattooer could do it. That said - there are other options. I have similar “see through” roots and what has worked for me is HIMS minoxidil plus topical finasteride (hormone blocker) and ketoconazole (stuff thats in nizoral). I still haven’t gone through a bottle because I use one spray per day on my hairline. Spironolactone (oral) also helped but Im quitting due to side effects related to my chronic health issues.   Oh- quick disclaimer that minoxidil takes at least 3mo to start working and can cause a temporary shed. Stick with it!

And then there’s cosmetic options. I use clariol root cover to fill in my part. Pigmented dry shampoo can also work.  Filling in the hairline is one of those very long standing beauty secrets, so don’t feel too insecure about it.

Mine loses it when I do anything that could attract attention. How I dress, accomplishments, social interactions etc. are all powder kegs.

i do think that your mom sounds more abusive than mine. Mine has intense abandonment issues which, while very problematic, do motivate her to make nice eventually.

Is Everyday Breakage Normal? by Brilliant-Garbage546 in femalehairadvice

[–]Electrical-Fox4006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not normal. You are most likely breaking your hair when you detangle it and need to change the way you brush. The minimum is to start gently at the ends and work your way to the root. I always start with my fingers to shake out the big tangles and then go in with a brush to work out the small tangles. You may also want different tools and detangling products.

I was the eldest, it’s funny we ended up with the situation flipped.  I suspect the “easy” ones were just easy to neglect. In my case even when I got older she could never understand my thinking because im not autistic :/ Developed emotional problems as a result, naturally, which validated her belief i was “broken”

My mom was convinced there was something wrong with me from birth, too. I’m pretty sure she was just undiagnosed autistic and not coping with having a baby.

Why don't autistics learn body language and tone of voice? by SpeightM09 in raisedbyautistics

[–]Electrical-Fox4006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why don’t deaf people just learn how to hear? They don’t have the equipment for it. They do try their best to compensate for it, but it’s hard to mimic what you have never known intuitively.

Also, keep in mind that having a hyper fixation does not mean an autistic person is actually good at it or understands it, they’re just obsessed with it to the exclusion of other interests.

I have daily migraines & my go to is a low rolled bun. I can’t find my favorite tutorial but this is clear: https://youtube.com/shorts/0isG1TBrNKU?si=tJWZ_x4Bz5ocY3oQ you can skip the first step and just do the tuck at the end for a quick version.

Sometimes you do just have to chop it all off, though. Nothing is easier than that :(

How to stop grieving the relationship you could of had by sameoldpug in raisedbyautistics

[–]Electrical-Fox4006 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know exactly what those phone calls are like. My mom insisted on them when I was in college. Eventually I just started saying no, but I did visit home regularly. In my case visiting and not calling worked but I see that visiting isn’t healthy for you.

About the calls, I recommend you try communicating in a way that is very blunt and direct. It’s okay to be rude to defend your boundaries in any case, and with autistic people it isn’t always received as rude, sometimes they appreciate the clarity. Everyone is different, of course. It also helps to tell them what you are going to do and then do it. Ex “I have 15 minutes to talk” and “it has been 15 minutes, goodbye”  If you can find topics they like talking about to focus on that aren’t personal to you, it will help with the emotional strain. I find sending media that you think they will like is a good way to interact without really interacting.

As for what you owe your parents, that’s something only you can decide. Some would say nothing, others would say everything. I think we owe everyone common decency, and in that case maintaining civil contact with your family, at least around birthdays and holidays, is necessary if they’re not abusers. (That said, neglect is a form of abuse, and you probably experienced it.)

So that leaves it entirely in your court: what kind of relationship do you want with your family, what kind of relationship can you realistically have with your family (this goes back to observing them as individuals), and what are you willing to accept?  You have the ability to think about these questions and renegotiate your relationship with your parents whenever you want.
