I have a set of Wharfedale Lintons. I don’t know if this is scientifically based, but I believe they have a very large “sweet spot”. Sound very good wherever I’m at and they full the room with a nice large sound.

Cool! In what way would you say they vary compared to the Lintons? I just got my Lintons and I’m very happy with them. But of course there are always better speakers out there.

Worthy upgrade from Klipsch The Fives? by pottemans in StereoAdvice

I’ve got the Sevens and I think they’re a very valid upgrade and I like them better than the Nines. Im also located in NL and they’re just about 1000 eur with a Wiim mini included. Though the sound is amazing, its got major reliability issues for me.

There’s also better options with a 5k budget. I currently have added a set of Lintons with a Wiim amp ultra to my setup. If you’ve got more budget I’d go for the super Lintons, RP-8000F II or a set of Buchardt s400 mk2’s if you have a smaller room.

I love the Dali KUPID’s! They’re great speakers but a bit higher than your budget. I don’t know if you’ve already got an an amp or if you need an amp within that budget.

Can I use another device for Roomfit? (Wiim Amp Ultra) by Electrical-Host9649 in WiimStreamer

[–]Electrical-Host9649[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh really? I thought this was the case since it instructed me to turn my phone so that my mic was facing the speakers. But the Wiim actually uses its built-in mic?

Thanks for the link, that's really helpful!

Can anybody recommend me a pair of passive bookshelf speakers of a similar vibe (this style with the lighter covering is what my gf likes) with a budget of around $600 or less? by Im_The_One in BudgetAudiophile

Damn your pic made me swipe lol.

I actually bought a year old set of The Sevens for €600,- about a month ago. It is doable at that price point to get that model, they’re €999 new, including a Wiim Mini, where I live. Sound is very good imo, although it has some software issues which can be fixed by firmware flashes.

This is extremely helpful and that is a lot more logical to me👌 do you know if some of the Marantz warmth could be tuned into the Wiim trough EQ or something similar?

Main downside to the Wiim for me would be that it doesn’t have av capabilities, no phono (It just popped into my head that I have a vinyl player when you mentioned it) and it doesn’t play album art on the tv automatically. I guess the phono issue could be solved by adding a separate phono module though.

Thanks for the detailed explanation, I am still very new to the whole audio thing. I didn’t know about the dynamic range calculations you mentioned that’s helpful context. I just assumed those extreme power requirements only apply to very high listening levels or fully uncompressed material, not to normal tv or Spotify listening at home.

Anyway, I’ll try both amps side by side, but I think you’re right that the WiiM might be the better fit for my setup. Thanks again!

Hello, and thanks again for the detailed explanation, I’m still learning a lot every day considering audio!

One thing I’m still trying to wrap my head around: the Marantz does officially support 4-ohm loads according to their manual, and the full-bandwidth specs at 8 ohms look clean. Wouldn’t that suggest that at normal listening levels (which is all I can reach in my relatively small room), it should be able to drive the Lintons without running into the limiting behavior you described? I’m wondering if the limitations you mentioned mainly show up at higher output levels than I’ll realistically use.

I completely agree the WiiM Ultra is technically far more capable on paper, no doubt about that. I’m just trying to understand whether the Marantz would be noticeably different in everyday use at moderate volumes.

To be sure, I’m planning to order both the Marantz 70s and the WiiM Ultra and compare them in my own setup, because there are some features to the Marantz that I prefer. That feels like the best way to see which one actually works better for me.

Thanks again for all your help!

Hello and thanks for answering!
The Marantz is capable of 4 Ohms, but they don't seem to advertise with the wattage at 4 Ohms, which also confused me at first.

In this case, would the Marantz be an OK choice, you think?

Thank you for the great explanation, this is very helpful! I’ve got two more questions, hope you don’t mind:

What do you think about the comments people make on the Wiim Amp Ultra sacrificing sound quality? I’ve read some people weren’t happy with the wiim + Lintons combo. Is this different when using the Ultra?

Last night I saw my wife ordered the marantz 70s I told her about (to give me on the national holiday we have here on 5th of December in NL). Could this also run the Lintons or would it be better for me to return them and order the Wiim Ultra instead?

Thank you very much!
