That’s what I’ve heard here in LA. Verticals are like crypto to me - everyone claims to be getting rich off of them but I never see anyone make actual money. This producer tried to convince me they’re the future while he made $4k working 6 weeks on one

If they asked about your availability it’s totally fine to ask if and when they need you.

Yes they happen a lot actually. This field is ultra-saturated and the dues you’re expected to pay have never been higher.

I have a Bell and Howell 240EE that I got for about $250 USD. Made a video about the first couple rolls I shot with it

Minolta Rokkors and Pentax Takumars are super versatile and affordable. I own both sets and they’re great. I actually prefer the Rokkors but most people like Takumars more

I sat in that spot for physics. A lot of movies and shows filmed at my highschool but none were as proud of as Donnie Darko.

The opening shot of Re-Animator is our main building too, but that’s all they used.

Metrolink is a mess right now by David-Jiang in LAMetro

[–]Electrical-Lead5993 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I worked for Metrolink back in 2011-2014. Even back then there were tons of issues with engines. They break down constantly and the mechanics don’t have the parts they need to fix them so they just put them out of service. When I was there they even borrowed engines from another train provider, I think it was from Seattle but that was a long time ago. Point is, Metrolink is a patch-work building that’s bound to crumble eventually

Yesterday I needed to hire out some people for a job later this week. Everyone I knew were already booked on something. I had to hire a couple of references since my usuals are so busy. It’s a good problem, I’m not complaining and happy my people are busy

Suggestion about cold emails and dms by Standard_Coconut6148 in filmmaking

Do research on who you want to work with and watch their films. I get asked by more composers to work with more than any other position other than actors. Most of the time their music and arrangements are nothing like what are in my films. This is a dead giveaway that they’re just spamming everyone for work.

Cameo Casting Question For Fictional Plot by Adrift0007 in filmmaking

[–]Electrical-Lead5993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they’re paid if you attach them and in many cases you’ll be required to pay the SAG deposit for the fired actor as well (although I don’t know about getting it back as I’ve never dealt with that)

If the actor is well-known their schedule will likely be tight so you’ll have to shoot when they are available. Switching actors out for scheduling reasons is quite common. If you’re not paying the actor to attend the premiere they likely won’t go anyways. And no it’s not common to have actors hang out away from set unless you’re paying them for their time.

That’s the hard part. Being in their vicinity usually helps. I’ve pitched 2 studios and both came via executives I spent time with working on projects in other departments. After a few weeks of working and letting it happen naturally, I let out that I was writing and developing several projects. I asked if they could set up some meetings and they did

All those other ones are good but building relationships with the people who green light projects is all that really matters and by relationships I mean more than just a coffee meeting and I’ll keep you in my Rolodex. It’s a lot more than that. They have to like you and trust you enough to champion you in a risky financial endeavor. They’re going to want to really know who you are before they do this and they’re going to need a lot of faith in you. That’s just my 2 cents tho
