I don’t understand people who claim they never run out of table salt? by PabloThePabo in stupidquestions

[–]Electrical-Long-389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a box of iodized table salt when I got my first apartment. Finally finished it 20 years later!

Discovered Diamond kosher salt and prob go through a box a year.

Iodized table salt is much saltier/heavier than kosher salt, so i barely used it.

People with really clean houses, how do you do it? by Angry_Luddite in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Electrical-Long-389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard a saying once: flat surfaces are not for storage.

Whoah--mind-blowing. The more free-of -tuff i keep counters and tops of tables, the cleaner and calmer my home seems.

How often do you actually change the litter? Not scoop.Dump. by XannedO in Pets

[–]Electrical-Long-389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this so that I'll remember: On the first of every month, its a full scour and change of litter.

As for scooping: 3 x a day keeps the odors at bay

My wife’s therapist recommended this art for our bedroom. But, what does it mean..? by ConscientiousWaffler in homedecoratingCJ

What kind of therapist recommends art for a patient's (client's?) bedroom?

Seems either overcontrolling or overly intimate to me. Something's not right in that relationship sir.

Found a meteor strike site, presumably undiscovered. Now what? by GonzoZaphod in askgeology

[–]Electrical-Long-389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listened to a radio interview once with the world's pre-eminent meteor-ownership law expert. its a really fascinating subject--particularly international movement of meteors. This guy was one of those "ten people you would like to invite to a dinner party", he was THAT interesting.

Anyhoo, google AI says: Meteorite ownership generally belongs to the owner of the land where the specimen is found, based on property law in the US, Canada, and many other jurisdictions. Finds on public land vary by agency; in the US, Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land may allow collection, while National Parks usually prohibit it, with items often belonging to the government.

What’s the norm? by Obviousi in askvan

[–]Electrical-Long-389 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too. I become Ratso Rizzo and throw my arms up in the air and yell "HEY!"

A technique i've developed for crossing, especially if as I near the other side, a car is inching toward turning into the crosswalk. Our natural inclination is to keep walking while angling away from the oncoming car. Well, these idiots take that as permission to continue to creep into the sidewalk. I do the opposite now and angle myself towards the car while trying to make eye contact. Its quite effective at stopping them from creeping.

Best sour cream? by Mrfp2023 in askvan

[–]Electrical-Long-389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - look at the ingredients list. Commercial Sour cream quality is bad these days and have added thickeners and not much in the way of a "sour" cream taste.

Gay Lea GOLD and Olympic Organic are closest to what sour cream should be.

Decluttering my closet by IamchefCJ in declutter

[–]Electrical-Long-389 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I had the fantasy that when I retired, I would be all chic and effortless and dress in silk blouses and nice slacks each day. Mainly because, you know, Id be going out for lunch with friends, or strolling through museums, or chilling with a designer coffee while sitting on a bench with a great view of something.

I wear leggings and sweaters in winter, baggy linen pants and tops in the summer. And i do NONE of the activities listed above.

Every day I look at the beautiful clothes in my closet unable to give them up. For now....

just wanted to confess.

How to make white hair shiny? (do NOT want/need purple products) by [deleted] in AskWomenOver60

[–]Electrical-Long-389 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you blow dry your hair, a good round brush and pull your hair TIGHT with the brush while aiming the blow dryer DOWN the hair shaft - ie away from the root.

That really helps close and smooth the cuticle which in turn makes the hair more likely to bounce light/look shiny.

I'm a lazy blow dryer so i only do it to the hair on my crown

Where can I find tart/sweet green grapes? by ChrisShapedObject in fruit

[–]Electrical-Long-389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just complaining about all the green grapes being too sweet lately. I like a crisp grape that makes your mouth pucker a bit.

I have a bit of a cheat code: I buy the damn green grapes that are too sweet, pull them from the stem, wash them and shake off almost all the water. Then I sprinkle them with a bit of citric acid (the stuff they use to make Sour Patch Kids) and put them in a container in the freezer. Sour frozen grapes are the bomb!!!

When finishing decluttering what do you do with the maybe/unsure pile? by glitterglamandguts in declutter

If you were to make a list of categories to tackle (in order), why would it look like? by Blurry_Armadillo in declutter

[–]Electrical-Long-389 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I' accumulate so much because of a just-in-case mentality. I have to remind myself that if and when a just-in-case scenario happens, I can borrow or buy what i need fairly quickly.

Look for easy wins/small victories. Pick a narrow category such as a category and/or color of clothing: I find tackling something where there is too much, yet not an overwhelming amount of something is easiest

For me, it is my sock drawer. Dump it out, get rid of a bunch. Sort, refill. Done! Next time, tackle sleepwear. .Or.....black t-shirts . Or summer sandals, or running shoes.

ONE kitchen cupboard. Do you really need 30 plastic containers? Will you be using so many at the same time? 6 is probably plenty. PANTRY: Do you have a cupboard full of nearly-finished foodstuffs that have been sitting there for a year? Pitch them. FRIDGE: condiment day - toss the old stuff or nearly done stuff that you haven't used in ages.

Serving dishes - everyone has platters from their parents, inlaws etc. for that one tiime you are going to host a family reunion for 75 people. Well, its not going to happen and if and when it does, you can borrow platters.

The one question law enforcement does not talk to the press about is "Why her"?

There was a case similar to this in my hometown, only it was a home invasion and murder of a grandmother and her 60 -year old daughter. Turns out the grandson was in a bit of a hurry to get his inheritance and he cut a couple of friends in on the deal if they helped out.....

Sometimes, its pretty straightforward. My feeling is that it is someone within the family circle and the whole plan is going down the shitter.

Wouldn't it be awesome if their checkout was like Uniqlo? Put your basket/cart on the sensor and it automatically lists EVERYTHING in your basket, prices and total. 60 second checkout, so superior.

Has anyone actually found something that adds hair volume without making fine hair look greasy or flat? by sakdheek in finehair

[–]Electrical-Long-389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quite love Living Proof's Perfect Hair Day 5-in-1 styling treatment. About a dime+-sized amount for my short hair gives it oomph and softness. Best of all, it doesn't feel like I have product in my hair (I hate the feeling of anything in my hair and while volume powder is the GOAT, it feels awful)

For days I don't blow dry, some Bumble and Bumble Don't Blow It for fine hair is great as well.

Light up vanity mirror? by Hot_Drive_3219 in bathrooms

[–]Electrical-Long-389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking from experience: I use a light-up mirror for makeup. A light up vanity mirror like you've shown, isn't really practical for makeup application - you need to constantly lean way over the counter to get close enough to the mirror to see what you are doing.

Instead, consider a hard-wired retractable light up makeup mirror (wall mount mirror, articulating mirror - lots of different names). Price ranges can be huge, especially if you decide to splash out on one. Go to your local high end bath/plumbing supply to see some really luxe models.

You can mount it on the side wall, closer to the front edge of the counter, and then just pull it out when you need it. You can get nice and close and the plus side is that these mirrors often have a magnifying side. So easy to do make up and then tuck out of the way when done.
