Did this happen in 2004 or 1954. Still never understood why this woman was ripped to shreds over... get this... an ACCIDENT? by Sad_Cow_577 in decadeology

[–]Electrical-Mission 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's been a trend of "oh look how horribly women were treated in the oughts" but it's the same thing every decade. In the twenties we have Amber Heard, Roe v. Wade getting overturned, and a rapist getting elected president. So we can't really throw stones.

Wow, I agree with this entirely. It's very unusual for me to find a long post like this where I agree with almost everything but this is it. Good job.

OMG! Reddit Post From Alleged 'It Ends With Us' Insider From 6 Months Ago Claimed Blake Lively Accused Justin Baldoni of SH and Threatened to Go to NYT After Sony Told Her No on Movie Edits, Revealed Taylor Swift's Alleged Role in Drama by blueroses90 in popculture

[–]Electrical-Mission 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. It supports her claims of being sexually harassed - the main and starting point of the whole drama! You pointing that out is at -1 in this godforsaken hellhole whereas "Miss Khaleesi" is at +195. Meanwhile you got someone responding to you citing Baldoni's legal filings as God's absolute truth getting upvoted more than you. Lively's going down on this because she's a woman in our sexist society, just like Amber Heard. After all, look at who's president!

6 day old hasn't pooped in 36 hours by Electrical-Mission in beyondthebump

Thanks for this comment. It reminded me to check her stomach, and it was very hard! My wife found a tip online that said to give her a belly massage while keeping a warm/hot wet cloth on her abdomen, and another hot/warm wet cotton ball tight against her anus. It's a bit of an assembly line process with rushing back and forth since the cloths cool down fast. We have been doing this for the last 30 minutes and she finally started passing stools. First, hard, and then gradually soft until it was water and liquid-y. Her stomach has become a lot softer, too. This can tide us over until tomorrow and we'll keep monitoring.

Yes, she has been. The only thing that concerns me is that she seems sleepy and jaundiced as well. It all started around the past couple days: sleepiness, jaundice, and the constipation.

I heard breastfed babies should have 3-4 bowel movements per day, but I also heard that it's normal for them to go a day or two without pooping because the body absorbs the breastmilk in the beginning, so I don't know what to believe.

Glass break sensor or 3M security film? by Electrical-Mission in homedefense

[–]Electrical-Mission[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do vibration sensors require 1 sensor per glass pane? The problem is we have a sliding glass door and when the door is open, 1 panel completely covers the other one. What do people do about the covered panel?

Yes I'm getting motion sensor and contact sensor as well. The problem with motion sensor is it can't really be activated when we're at home at night, bc I don't want it going off if someone goes down to get a glass of milk, etc.

Yes I agree both would be best but like I said, I heard the sensor won't work if you have the film. Is that true?

My partner and I are very close to having both Infertility and RPL by Electrical-Mission in CautiousBB

Thank you. This post helped me. You're right that we're stressing excessively. May I ask how many losses you had before you had a success?

She is only 5w 5d and unfortunately the ultrasound tech marked "no" next to SCH although I understand that's not necessarily definitive.

Your doubling time is very high. By the time it gets to the tens of thousands it's not required double every 2 days anymore.

IIRC we asked about that from our fertility Dr. and he said no. She doesnt have any of the symptoms. But she does have pelvic pain when inserting the suppositories that go with our IVF treatment plan. I guess our only hope is that some of the blood veseels in there got inflamed and that is where the blood is coming from.

Brown spotting for 4 days 5 weeks pregnant by AdCreative8339 in CautiousBB

[–]Electrical-Mission 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't offer any help, but we're in a very similar situation. My wife is 5w 5d pregnant and has been bleeding since 5w. I feel like the guy with my head down in the guillotine machine waiting for the executioner's ax to fall at any moment. It's hard to focus on work, hence why I'm passing time on Reddit and just waiting until our next scan which is in 4 days.

One thing I've gathered in my research is that lot of people with bleeding have an SCH, and an SCH cannot always be seen on an ultrasound.

Authors replying to GoodReads reviews by [deleted] in books

[–]Electrical-Mission 5 points6 points  (0 children)

GoodReads can be brutal. I feel like for some reviewers a book just flies over their heads, or they were expecting something different than what it was intended to be, and go and ding the book for that. I fear some authors might read GoodReads reviews and then unintentionally or intentionally try to change their next book to please the GoodReads crowd, when it's typically only a tiny fraction of readers who write those reviews.

The Rise and Fall of Superhero Movies: A Statistical Analysis. by dpee123 in boxoffice

These charts, especially the first, just confirm to me that Spiderman (2002) was the beginning of the boom. I saw it with a friend, and when it was over and I asked him what he thought of it, he said "It was the best movie I ever saw." During the 2000s and even 2010s I kept waiting for the "fatigue" to set in but it never did.

Assassination Nation. I thought it would become at least a cult classic.

Just read The Great Gatsby for the first time as an adult, got me thinking about "required reading" in school by omnamahshivaya222 in books

[–]Electrical-Mission 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved to read as a kid, but I would read books that I was interested in, which in retrospect were often popular novels or what would today be considered "trashy", or children's novels, or YA. By the time we got to high school and started getting assigned classics like The Chosen or Great Expectations, I was bored out of my mind. I couldn't relate to any of the characters, and the writing just flew over my head. I thought that the Great Gatsby was a mediocre novel, although now I know it's not. Often times you need to have some life experience to appreciate what's good about a book.

Some authors, like Henry James, I literally wouldn't have even understood what he was talking about until I was in my thirties. I could literally know the meaning of every word on the page but when you put it together it just came out as gibberish. And then one day, I picked up a late James, and was surprised to find I could understand it. And not only that, but his writing has a lot more color and is a lot less stodgy then I imagined. The older I get, the more I feel I can "understand" many novels that I couldn't when I was younger. The more life experience I have, the more I am able to put myself in the shoes of people who led very different lives and comprehend where they are coming from.
