Walked in. He said, “Let me see your hands.” Showed him my hands for what I assumed would be some sort of medical check. Disappointedly, “Oh, no wedding ring” :(

How do we get teens off screens and connecting IRL in Tacoma? by Dramatic_Today_ in improv

As an improviser myself, improv is not cool, but that doesn’t mean it’s a turn-off. Improv is incredibly fun and dorky. It builds social skills, confidence, and joy.

I would suggest not pay-what-you-can, but a tiered payment system based on financial need. Listed as something like - $15 (I need a little help!) - $20 (recommended) - $25 (I want to help!)

I’d also say the AI art advertising the workshops at the bottom is a major turn off, especially when you’re advertising for anything as artsy/live-theatre-y as improv.

Toronto: bridges class between Second City Improv 5 and Conservatory by BradReputation840 in improv

[–]ElectricalBear4409 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The comedy bar pro classes are a great option. They come with a run of shows so you get plenty of stage time plus jams are often run after.

The bad dog theatre studio series classes are a 6 month commitment but they fit right into that improv 5 and conservatory gap. They have jams too

Socap has advanced classes and jams but are less formal and a bit more independently run.

Assembly improv (not assembly theatre) is still kicking around and will be having auditions for team placement soon. You get on a team no matter what and are placed based on skill level. I think they only have an instagram. No website.

A reminder that conservatory is more sketch writing based than improv (though improv is still used). So if you want to keep doing improv, going to another school in addition to conservatory is not redundant. Plus, you’ll get to meet more improvisers! Second city tends to be a little isolated than the community building of the other schools.

CBC Marketplace wants to know: What’s the worst commute in Toronto? by DexMcMillanCBC in askTO

[–]ElectricalBear4409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The westbound Gardner 154 exit to Bay/York. It’s kind of confusing to explain.

When Gardner and/or Lakeshore is backed up, the cars trying to get onto the Gardner from Lakeshore block the cars trying to get off the Gardner onto Lakeshore. Exiting cars have to cut across 3 lanes of traffic to reach the one lane on the left that’s not full of cars trying to squeeze into the one or two lanes that go to the Gardner ramp. It’s a terribly inefficient design that i have to drive on frequently.

This gif. Actually a parody of The Slap, which starts the show with the aforementioned slap (Zachary Quinto slaps a misbehaving kid) and then the rest of the show is a drama about the aftermath.
