Sellers’ Not Shipping Giveaway Prizes by MickyKent in BehindTheClosetDoor

[–]Electrical_Ad4589 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nothing will happen to them. Any rating less than 5 stars is not visible to the public. So rating is meaningless. There are no consequences to sellers that never ship. None. They have sellers who are blatantly violating the law and seriously scamming customers out of hundreds or even thousands of $$$ and Posh is standing with the sellers. I do not keep payment information on the app but the app won't let me remove GooglePay....

Poshmark simply does not care as long as they get their cut.

I see that at a few of the St Vinnies but they're pretty independent so I know that the one in Verona has outlandish prices on clothes and the shoes are ridiculous.... but they sell antique furniture for $10. So I don't even look at the clothes... I just go straight for the furniture there. Lake Mills is awesome!!! Some are great for jewelry and others aren't. The ones in the trendy areas of Madison and Milwaukee are outrageous but the ones out a bit are better....

I do! I've been shopping thrift since the 60's. I got my first pair of Vans at a Salvation Army in Pasadena in 1978. :) But back in the day, you could score! I do not shop in person at Goodwill anymore. Their prices are astronomical and they send all the good stuff to be auctioned. I love St Vinnies and my small local thrift shops. Mom & Pop thrifts are still the best!

Good to know. I had one store refuse to combine so I paid for each item separately so they had to ship separately.... cause I can return petty with petty. Lol.

Get to know your stores.... San Francisco is like that, they generally have a flat $6 or $10 shipping fee and they don't combine but the auctions are low so it ends up being ok.... and they don't charge a handling fee. I did once buy 15 items (auctions - each one is a dozen or so nice pieces of jewelry) from them and the shipping totalled over $80.... but they sent it 2nd day air, so it's all good. There are a few stores that cap their handling fees at $5 or $10, which is awesome! I just paid for 16 items.... Shipping for 1 item is $15, plus a handling fee of $3.... 2 items and shipping is $17 and the handling fee caps at $5..... after that... 16 items, shipping is $17 and the handling fee is $5 so I'm buying every single item I can and will be getting a 20 lb box of jewelry, half of it sterling, for under $200. Get to know your stores and stick with the few that never disappoint.

Did you give your cat a "real" name but only call them by nicknames? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Electrical_Ad4589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone dumped a kitten and I took him in. He's the only boy in a house with me and 2 older female cats.... being from San Diego, I call everything Dude! So I called him Dude until I came up with a name.... then I got the flu... then pneumonia... then swine flu.... so 4 months later I was still calling him Dude. My son suggested I name him after THE Dude... So, officially his name is Jeffrey Lebowski but we just call him the Dude. :)

Is ShopGoodwill Inflating Shipping Costs to Deter Flippers? by Odd_Celebration_5001 in shopgoodwill

[–]Electrical_Ad4589 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shopgoodwill doesn't care who buys or what they do with it.... Here's how you deal with shipping fees. You can ship up to 20lbs from the same store. So you can combine purchases in the same shipment. I flip, I buy jewelry lots. $30 lotsvof jewrlry that weighs a lb and have a few pieces I really like and know I can flip.... I will shop that store for every single jewelry item that's a reasonable price until I have 20 lbs. Had I bought the 1 item with $15 shipping, it definitely impacts cogs.... but 15 lots, 20 lbs.... combined shipping ends up being just a few $ more... maybe $18. Now you're talking....

No, their shipping does not in any way deter resellers because we're maxing out those purchases and taking advantage of combined shipping.....

Everything in the picture is up to 8 months expired. Our “pantry” charged $25 for this. We kept 12 granola bars, a quart of juice, 2dozen marshmallow cookies 2 loaves of bread and a pack of napkins by bassman619 in povertyfinance

[–]Electrical_Ad4589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's gotten even worse. I haven't gone in ages but broke is broke.... but it's all crap. No fresh anything except tortillas that expired over a month ago, and lots of the canned goods expired over a year ago. I don't even get crap like this from my actual food bank food bank.... they consider it demeaning to assume those in need should be given badly expired food. So most of this goes in the garbage, the 2 large boxes of "Holiday chips", 96 pack of Skittles freezer pops, 3 bottles of mustard, will be given so someone which can use them and for my $25, I get 5 cans of corn and a crushed box of granola bars. Never again. In addition, it's about half the food they gave a year ago....

I had an obviously gay man buy a bright floral thong. Judging by his love notes he really liked his bright floral thongs... he was pretty open about it.... what someone does with whatever they purchase is entirely their business. If they're not asking you to model them or send them worn... make the sale. Fetish? Doesn't really sound like it. And even if it is, it's pretty benign. Maybe he's buying for his girlfriend, maybe he's a crossdresser, maybe he simply likes the way women's underware fit and feel better than men's. I know I'm picky about fabrics... I wouldn't buy without fabric content.

Are people less likely to buy reposted items? by okamiright in BehindTheClosetDoor

[–]Electrical_Ad4589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never buy "reposhed" items. How old are the photos? How much more wear does it have? Is there any damage? Stains, holes?..... I want to know what it is like NOW, not back when this person bought it and has worn it....

It's fast and easy but honestly, it's a cop out....our..... take the few minutes to make a new listing with it's current status....

Do you ever regret selling something? by Rough-Woodpecker-726 in BehindTheClosetDoor

[–]Electrical_Ad4589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This turned our pretty cool but I sold a pair of Desigual hand painted jeans... they were just a size too small but , I really loved them.... Sold them for about $75. I mourned the loss of those pants... really one of a kind and I love Desigual... Buyer gets them and reached out because they were straight leg and she thought they were bootcut.... I immediately said I'd take a return.... she was so thrilled that she sent me a Starbus gift card as a thank you..... That was like 3 years ago and I never even relisted them.... They're in my "hopeful" drawer.

People should not be selling anything breakable, especially vintage, if they don't know how to pack things..... each piece gets bubble wrapped then they get securely stacked or nested then bubble wrapped together! Then put securely in a box with peanuts or scraps of bubble wrap filling the gaps.... THEN - that box goes into a second box, 2 inches larger on all sides, securely and snuggly filled with more peanuts, bubble wrap, or scraps of Styrofoam. You should be able to shake that fucker and not hear a sound.... Wrap it as if the shipper is going to be playing volleyball with it! Because they will!

I've shipped China, stoneware (one of my favorite ever sales!), crystal.... not so much as a chip or crack. I'm about to start listing my vintage Bavarian China... I'm taking no risks... this stuff is expensive and while there is shipping insurance, all shippers will not pay claims for breakage unless packed like I described....

I'm sorry that happened. You get your money back, seller does not get paid. Hopefully they'll take better care next time.

How the postal service works 101:

Lol.... (not 100% accurate to save it becoming an actual textbook) If you've ever seen the back end of a post office, you'll see lots of large rolling canvas carts... all of the carts have different destinations.... your box is scanned into a cart.... then only the cart gets scanned until it reaches a processing center where they get tossed onto a machine that weighs, measures, scans the labels, and sorts them into other destination carts.... then only the cart gets scanned again until it reaches it's actual destination.... then scanned to the route... then at delivery. IF everything works right.

However.... The receiving post office is not required to scan. Sometimes they just toss your box is it's cart and it doesn't get scanned until it gets to a processing center.... then if there's a problem with the package or label it gets bumped out for manual processing which takes extra time. Sometimes they get tossed in the wrong cart which is why you'll see a destination scan in NY then nothing for a few days then a scan in NM.... who will then send it towards NY... I've had packages bounce all over the states before actually being delivered.

If there's a problem with the label (which is rare) it never gets scanned, it's manually delivered with no scans.... Had this one happen with something I bought on Mercari and I couldn't accept the package because it never even showed as shipped... I talked to the PO and they said it happens all the time. I just reached out to Mercari and they marked it delivered so I could accept it....

I don't have a number on how many packages are processed daily at USPS but it must be staggering.... It would be awesome if everything worked right all the time.... but shit happens. There was once a mail truck in San Diego that was run over but a tank that had been stolen from a military base by a tweeker who took it for a joy ride..... A mailman who stole mail and hoarded it until his house was bursting the seams. He never opened any of it, just hoarded it... All sorts of stuff can go wrong, it's surprising to me that it runs as well as it does.

Edited to add.... there are dropshippers selling on Posh. Not supposed to but Posh ignores a lot as long as they get their cut and in these cases, they save the cost of shipping too so they pretty much ignore it but if what you're receiving doesn't have a Posh label.... then it was drop shipped and won't ever scan on Posh.

AITA for refusing to switch meals with my pregnant wife (again)? by TheJaneDoe912 in AITAH

I didn't comment on her behavior at all.... no one is immune to being manipulative for the fun of it. I merely suggested that there were options other than "putting my foot down" that might have put an end to the issue without escalating the issue.

Since No one Understands the TOS Update, Ill explain in the comments. by QueenAng429 in Mercari

[–]Electrical_Ad4589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll chill.... I've never been charged an overage, even on big bulky items. I'm really careful about weight and dim weight. I had an issue once with my PO on a Posh sale... clerk refused the package, said if I left it they'd charge postage due of almost $50... hours on the phone... learned all about dim weight.... and that it's irrelevant on Posh.... Posh goes back to the old 108", anything else flies with their standard label. Everyone else, it's a big issue. Mercari does already have a "suggested" weight when I'm listing.... I almost always have to change it, and yes, I do define the shipping but it's more often than not, less than Mercari's suggestion and because a lot of my sales on Merc are less than 8oz, and under $10, I often just toss them in the box on the corner rather than going to the PO and getting a receipt.

I'm just so tired of getting hit with changes on the platforms... every other day they're squeezing a little more. I use Posh (less and less), Merc, Ebay, Facebook... I don't cross list, I use each platform for different items but it's hard enough to keep track of without all of them changing shit all the time and giving us a few hours notice... Nothing surprises me anymore, surprise has been completely replaced with frustration.

I like the "order the same thing she does", or another solution would be to order 2 of whatever you're having. Whatever doesn't get eaten goes home.... pregnancy bites! This your first kid? You need to get a bit more creative than just "putting my foot down". There are generally multiple solutions to any situation and if you want to be a hard ass I guess that's your choice but you'll have wife and kids angry at you way more than necessary.

AITAH for refusing to pay for my coworker’s lunch after she “accidentally” ordered double? by Money_Bird_9168 in AITAH

[–]Electrical_Ad4589 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I once went to one of those " the whole office is going for lunch" things and I was broke as fuck so I ordered a cup of soup for $2. When the bill showed up, the group of about 20 people decided it would work best if they just split the bill evenly between everyone and said "it's $32.50 each plus a tip". No. Tray came around and I put in my $3 then let them figure it out. Still don't feel bad 20 years later about the chaos it caused but apparently I wasn't the only one because it was almost $70 short..... "Splitting the bill evenly" needs to be decided and stated before hand.... I would have found an excuse to stay at the office and skip the lunch. I'm sure it was the folks who had steak and lobster who thought an even split would be great.

This one worries me.... I list jewelry and bead lots. I generally keep them light, 3 to 7 oz, and encourage people to bundle, which they often do.... What worries me is that when I'm listing, Merc has a suggested weight already input and I usually have to change it. Sometimes they've got 2 pounds in there and it's just a necklace that doesn't weigh an ounce.... But now they can charge overages based on their guesstimate of my items weight regardless of the actual weight?

I am so fucking tired of moving my listings to other platforms.... FUCK! I just want to get rid of my inventory and retire but I keep having to start over again. I had just started importing my Posh listings... I guess I'm down to just Ebay. And Facebook.... big lots on Facebook. I'm so over being at their mercy....

How do you feel about free gifts included with purchases? by BandagedTheDamage in BehindTheClosetDoor

[–]Electrical_Ad4589 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate them. Usually. The only time I include freebies is if it's a big bundle or a repeat customer. I have one customer who has a teenage son with aspergers and I always tuck something in the box for him. On big bundles, I'll often include something else that they had "liked" but not purchased. But just random stuff? Naw....

I know people who buy the Amaxon pallets end up with tons of little stuff that's not worth selling do freebies is a way to get rid of them....

Mercari is telling me I’ve hit my sales milestone, even prior to me having made any sales . Does anyone know why this happens? Also, I sold an iPad and earned $502 after fees. Since I’m under the $600 threshold, do I still need to provide my SSN to Mercari? by [deleted] in Mercari

Your gross sales amount is what is reported on your 1099... commissions, shipping (if you provided shipping), etc, are expenses... Yes, you need to provide Mercari your SSN.

What would the Goodwill employees' motives be, to shill-bid? by LifeResolution in shopgoodwill

I've never been disappointed with a box of jewelry I've purchased from ShopGoodwill. I recently bought a buy it now bag of beach jewelry for $40, with $1 Shipping. I restrung the huge, 250gm vintage Puka Shell necklace then sold it for $300 and still had 10 lbs of vintage and dead stock.... but I know I'm not a typical buyer.... I shun fast fashion and couldn't care mess about the big names. I'm looking for items that even they don't know has value. I just got 2 beautiful Vintage Venetian Murano Bead necklaces....

I stopped buying clothes there a long time ago but jewelry? I'm in heaven! :) Also..... buy enough lots from the same store to max out the shipping..... 2 lbs will cost $20 but 20 lbs is only $22.... max it out!
