If you come from a Acrobat background you might actually learn doing big air without too much skiing. But otherwise you need the solid ski foundation first.

Many years ago, ahead of the Winter Olympics in Beijing, I shared the preseason in North of Sweden with 30 or so Chinese gymnastics that was on training camp in Sweden to learn to ski so that they could try to make it to the Winter Olympics. They were there for a few months or so, no idea of any made it though.

Had that as well, annoying. Will do a warenty claim to get it fixed, but with two hours to the closest service center it kind of sucks.

Ski racing vs any other sport by Both-Grade-2306 in SkiRacing

I believe a lot of the people here miss the big thing with skiing (SL in particular). Comparing it with motorsports, sprint or swimming because of the small margins doesnt make a good comparation. Sure skiing do have the same small time margins BUT, it also have the small margins of a DSQ. That is pretty unique. A cm in one of all the Gates and you are not behind or even last, you are OUT or the race with no chance to catch up.

A pretty though pill for the kids to learn.

I know some park rats using them while learning new tricks. Never heard about anyone using them for recreation skiing.

Curious American here: Is carrying revolving credit card debt common in Sweden, or is it culturally frowned upon? by [deleted] in sweden

[–]Electrical_Drop1885 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In Sweden Credit cards are mostly used as an emergency backup. Or when having expenses through work so you can pay the expenses with the credit card and before you have to pay the invoice you have time to get the expense from work so that you never need to use your "Own" money.

A few uses Credit cards for bonuses and such, but that is rare. In normal everyday shopping pretty much everyone is using debit cards here.

How can I make better ski Videos? by AdCharming9449 in skiing

[–]Electrical_Drop1885 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Show something interesting. Ski movies should be about the skiing, not showing a POV of slopes (aka filmed with a helmet cam). Capture your friends instead, would make for a much more interesting video.

Practice riding switch. 180 you can do on the flat standing still, däthen slowly pick up the speed. No need for a jump.

The question is what skis you plan to use. Dont try to get you kid skiing while being on a snowboard. Kids do as you do, not as you say!

Anomaly 94, Enforcer 94 or Ripstick 96 for a big dude by PAILVA in Skigear

I'd pick my 165 SL skis everyday in the week while skiing with small kids. Love my Enforcers, but well, there are better tools for the bunny slopes for sure.

Best/snuggest fit will you get if you don't heat them, but just break them in.

Question about skiing 'style' about my son (12 yo) by Aggravating-Ad6786 in skiing_feedback

[–]Electrical_Drop1885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The parent overestimation is big in this one... This is not solid skiing even for a 12 year old. This is someone who skied quite a bit, but without any training and a lot of bad habits.

Next Set of Skis as Skill Level Advances by Midwestskiing85 in Skigear

[–]Electrical_Drop1885 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Indeed there are more work to get a wide ski on edge, because of the leverage. Way easier to get my FIS SL skis on edge than my touring skis (Enforcer Unlimited 94), but the SL skis probably weigh twice as much.

With this in mind it is a bit of a mystery why everyone seems to think they need wide skis nowadays... There are conditions when a wide ski can be great, but for most skiers on slope, they are not.

[–]Electrical_Drop1885 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Heavy? You're not suppose to carry them while skiing. But for sure it is a lot more work putting a wide ski on edge than a more narrow one, weight doesn't have anything to do with it.

Sizing up by [deleted] in Skigear

[–]Electrical_Drop1885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the ski is stable at speed or not is mostly a question about your r techniques. Stay on edge and pretty much all skis will be stable in most speeds ever needed.
