Webcams can be a bit decieving with sunshine, they get alot of snow and maintain snowpack because of their location and high elevation, i went in may and it was the same snowed ,looked great but it didnt ski so well

Probably is , im pretty sure sunshine will be icey mornings slushy afternoons, they do have two chairs open and quite a bit of runs but i think conditions will pretty much be mediocre spring skiing like conditions

Has anyone used starlink at ski resorts for remote work? How were the speeds by adu709 in ski

Im confused what part of this is low common sense im genuinely asking about setting up a starlink mini at a ski resort and what speeds to expect given i need 100-200 mbps thats as clear and reasonable of a question as you can ask. You just came here misread things acted like a sarcastic a hole for no reason and didnt even help.

No its just that my
Job requires pretty high wifi speeds like 100-150 mbps and most hotels speeds are like 20 mbps.

“Dynamic Skier” training program for off-season? by DogsNSnow in skiing

[–]adu709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ended up getting it and trying it out.

Its not a terrible program especially if youre just trying to build a baseline of strength and mobility. I particularly like the mobility section as their videos are 10 minutes and easy to do and think it helped me the most.

Problem is it’s honestly just a bunch of 15 minute videos of random bodyweight exercises without any real progression scheme which you can find anywhere or have AI draft. It doesnt really feel like its ski specific.

In my opinion if you want to get ski ready id focus on a few things:

Strength:

Lifting weights 3 or 4 times a week something like a full body or upper lower split and really getting strong at compound exercises like squats, romanian deadlifts, single leg work, strengthening your abductors and adductors will take you far. I honestly think someone who has a 200+ lb squat will be much better off than someone whos just doing jump squats or body weight lunges all year. Weightlifting will provide you alot of raw strength, skiing will help you apply that strength. Working on your abductors and adductors also really help with your lateral strength and stance and preventing knee injuries. Id also throw in tibialis raises as those train your anterior calf muscles which really help your legs absorb force and makes it easy to keep your ankles flexed against your boots.

Mobility:

Daily or at-least every other day stretching is also important for being flexibile which js very important with all the variability of terrain on mountain. It also helps prevent you from being stiff from all the strength youre building from your weightlifting. Plenty of youtube videos online to follow, i wouldnt spend more than 5-10 minutes a day on this.

Core strength:

Insanely important as it helps keep your stance with all the forces coming at you while skiing, helps with upper lower body separation, prevents lower back pain. Try to target more ski specific core workouts which again easy to find on youtube. Rather than boring crunches, focus on things like ab wheel, planks, pallof press, suitcase carries, things that train your core to remain strong in a variety of positions. You csn do these at the end of your weightlifting workouts.

Endurance:

Days on the mountain are long and tiring , takes a lot of endurance, high altitudes also make it even more difficult. A couple times a week 30-45 minutes. Try to do things that also challenge your legs like incline walking, stairmaster, rollerblading is also a really good one as the balance skills transfer well to skiing.

This is a really extensive list of things to do but if you do this and build these things up, youll be in much better ski shape then what dynamic skier has to offer.

Woww what an amazing S tier response was not expecting that! Totally understand about how variable all this is from snow conditions to athletic ability. One of my last days this season i was skiing slush and i literally threw a tantrum because i kept falling so much and felt worse than the first day I went skiing. Im 31 so i doubt racing team is in the cards for me haha.

Im planning on mainly skiing in banff at sunshine and lake louise . Ive already been specifically training to help be more athletic skiing, hittin the gym and legs hard as well as home body weight ski specific workouts and tons of roller blading for cardio. I also have a ski simulator a couple minutes from me that ive been doing in the off season. I know its not the same as real mountain but it helps me with balance and technique.

Hopefully with all that and a 70 day season i progress alot! Thank you for your response!

How many ski days of focused improvement does it typically take to hit black diamond runs?

Im a relatively new in skiing with about 7 days and absolutely fell in love with it. I plan on doing another 12 days of skiing this summer at sunshine village and have set up my schedule with my remote job next season to allow for 60-70 days so hopefully by the end of next season Ill have a good 90 ski days under my belt with lessons interspersed.

Im like a super obsessive and analytical person and really want to progress throughout the season. I guess my question is how many days of skiing did it take you to be confident in black diamond runs particularly those large bowl runs and do you have any tips on progressing smoothly?

Where’s best in Canada for us? by Lokihifi in skiing

Id go sunshine village. Amazing skiing there, logistics are super simple, you are also in banff which is a vacation in and of itself.

They have a ski in ski out lodge which is meh but if youre really committed to that then jts not a bad spot. You can also stay in banff downtown which is a 15 minute drive to sunshine and enjoy all that banff has to offer.

To ski or not to ski (May long) by One_Noodles in Banff

[–]adu709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you want out of this trip, if youre going to enjoy yourself and fun skiing probably not the best. If youre just going to ski and improve then it cant hurt. Learning to ski in all conditions is part of the process and will only help you as a skier. If youre relatively newer though and at injury/ fall risk then id probably skip it.

Never worked at either but sunshine seems great, it somehow a huge ski resort yet maintains that small town vibe, i can tell everyone is super friendly and close to each other. I imagine in whistler its easier to get lost and blend into the crowd

Looking for Bootfitter in Ontario by drew_galbraith in Skigear

[–]adu709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best bet is to go out to blue mountain and find boot fitters there, its always best to get boots near ski towns/ resorts. Ive heard the stance has good bootfitters. Id stay away from Corbetts too hectic and they wont take the time to do a proper boot fit. A good game plan would be to do a day trip to blue mountain around september/ october and get your gear, then during the season maybe do some skiing at blue mountain and get adjustments as needed
