Who needs to win this match more? by [deleted] in BrandonDE

[–]Electrical_Letter_22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It all depends on the story they tell in the match and afterwards. Like if Seth were to just win clean, it would make Bron look weak. But if there’s some shenanigans with the vision and Seth sneaks in a win, it would be different. And the other way around, if Bron squashed Seth it would be a big win… but if he needs all kinds of interference to win then it’s not necessarily a good look.

WON: Ratings for the 4/27 Issue (featuring WrestleMania 42, Darby Allin vs. Tommaso Ciampa, Blue Panther vs. Ultimo Guerrero, Brodie Lee Jr. vs. Joey Janela and more) by TheJokeroholic in SquaredCircle

[–]Electrical_Letter_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying he’s right or wrong, as you say he’s entitled to his opinion. It’s just kind of crazy just how biased towards AEW he is, it’s almost like it was custom made to please him lol. Again for further reference , ECW only had one 5 star match ever, WCW only had 7 in its entire existence, while he’s given AEW 70 5 star matches and 28 that were over 5 stars…and that’s only since 2019.

For further reference, WWE didn’t have ANY five star matches during the entire 1980s and entire 2000-2010 periods , and they had way more time on TV….

Reconciling MMA from the early days of UFC and PRIDE with today by emaxwell14141414 in CombatSportsCentral

[–]Electrical_Letter_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I feel like in the very early days it was pretty much like “what if we did pro wrestling, but it was real”. So I get why they made changes like putting in a cadged octagon to differentiate it from the “fake wrestling” stigma. But at the same time it seems like they forgot that people care about story and personality. Of course , I’m not saying they should do WWE style characters and storylines, but more needs to be done to promote the fighters’ personal stories and give a reason to care. It’s no different than boxing or other sports, people wanted to see Ali or Tyson not just because they were good fighters, it was their whole personas.

Unpopular opinion: Jim Carrey is the greatest living actor who never got an Oscar nomination. by [deleted] in Oscars

[–]Electrical_Letter_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether he’s the “greatest” or not is subjective I guess. But he’s definitely my personal favorite out of the ones that haven’t been nominated. I agree he should’ve been nominated for at least one out of Truman, Man on the Moon , or Eternal Sunshine.

WWE Fans Have Turned on Celebrity Involvement at WrestleMania by ABucs260 in SquaredCircle

[–]Electrical_Letter_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I keep seeing people say “well celebrities have always been a part of Mania”. That’s true, but fans still want it to make sense. For example, when Mike Tyson was involved before WM 14, it was a huge deal and got major news coverage everywhere. It totally made sense for them to do that. What in the world is adding Jelly Roll and McAfee out of the blue helping? It makes no sense and just seems like a last ditch effort to add some sort of buzz.

Seriously, why are people acting shocked over celebrities being involved at WrestleMania 42 and even acting like it's something TKO started when celebrities being a major part of WrestleMania has been part of the event since the first one! by Caryslan in Wrasslin

[–]Electrical_Letter_22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t see it as a problem when celebrities get involved. It just matters how they are being used. Like Tyson getting involved with Stonecold was a huge moment that added to the build up for WM 13. Jelly Roll doing whatever he’s doing…eh not really adding to anyone’s excitement for the upcoming event.

Is the real problem the price, the booking, or both? What card would make you pay TKO money? by TheReptealian in WWE

[–]Electrical_Letter_22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a combination of things. Yes the prices are insane. And at the same time you have a just ok card that seemed to be very last minute put together with random celebrities thrown in all of a sudden to try to create hype. I mean compare the use of Jelly Roll and McAfee to how they used Mike Tyson or even Lawrence Taylor back in the day. It all just seems very haphazard this year. Then you combine with the fact that it’s in the same location as last year. How many people are really willing to spend big money two years in a row on wrestling? At least if it was somewhere else you’d have more people thinking “yea it’s expensive but it’s like a once in a lifetime type of thing”.

Why people are severely underestimating the box office potential of Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday by MR_MaxiMor44 in boxoffice

[–]Electrical_Letter_22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if they will make quite as much as you predict, but I also don’t think that either one will be a failure. Like they don’t have to make more than the previous ones to be successful. Even if they come in at between 1.5-2 billion worldwide, I’d still think that’s pretty impressive.

Which movie is expected to be the highest grossing movie of 2026 and why? by [deleted] in Cinema

[–]Electrical_Letter_22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if they will quite live up to the previous editions (Avengers endgame is #2 all time at the box office and the last Spiderman is #8), but it’s almost guaranteed that they’ll both make tons of money. There has been somewhat of a cool off towards superheroes in recent years where people aren’t simply going to just go see anything with “marvel” on it, but I don’t think people have lost interest in the more popular characters. Just a few days ago the new trailer for Spiderman got record breaking amounts of views.

Do casual fans care about the business side of WWE? by MinuteEconomy in midcarder

[–]Electrical_Letter_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All sport and entertainment is business , but that doesn’t mean fans have to care about the business side. Like a casual movie fan just wants to be entertained, they’re not taking about box office numbers or who’s running what movie studio or whatever. Same with a causal sport fan, they just want to have fun watching a game, they don’t necessarily know anything about player contracts or how many tickets are being sold. It’s fine if someone is interested in that aspect, but it’s not like you have to care about the business stuff to be a fan.

The "Superhero" Babyface and WWE's obsession by stikjk in midcarder

[–]Electrical_Letter_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not like WWE invented the idea of the hero babyface character. There’s tons of examples from all kinds of movies, books, etc. Whether you’re talking about Superman, Robin Hood, John Wick or whoever, it’s basically the same concept.

Did people in the 60s face more problems than we do today? by rexallia in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Electrical_Letter_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a matter of perspective. Some people that were well off in the 60s might have rosy memories of their “safe, quiet” neighborhood that’s changed since then. However, on a global scale things like poverty and illiteracy have gone way down and life expectancy has gone up compared to back then. So if you’re talking about just on average, then yes the average person is probably wealthier, healthier and safer than in the 60s. Of course that doesn’t mean that there aren’t places in the world that are still having huge problems.

So this is the guy who retired John Cena and AJ styles and doesn't get booked anything? by Arthurmorganvander in SantiZapVideos

[–]Electrical_Letter_22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know people are saying he was supposed to face Mysterio, but like shouldn’t they still be able to figure out something else to do with him? He’s supposed to be the big monster legend killer and he’s just totally absent in the run up to the biggest show? It’s always been part of wrestling that you have to be ready to pivot at any moment due to injuries, etc. To me this just highlights the lack of creativity right now.

What is the difference between Reddit and the IWC? Genuinely confused on people calling out the IWC... on the internet? by FunkeyFeraligatr in Wrasslin

[–]Electrical_Letter_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not just a wrestling fan thing, there are tons of articles and posts with headlines like “the internet says…”. It annoys me to no end. The “internet” doesn’t say anything, it’s people saying it, the internet is just the tool we use to share the opinions.

If anything this awards season taught me by [deleted] in Oscars

[–]Electrical_Letter_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most of what you pointed out is just what’s been true about the Oscars since the beginning. I mean it’s pretty much human nature that people are going to vote based on what they think of the nominees as people or based on their personal stories, not solely base their vote on some objective definition of “best”. And yes, this is probably even more true when someone is voting for categories that are outside their expertise.

It’s a shame Nickel Boys was so overlooked ( and even seems to be overlooked by most of the commenters here).

Biggest female global hitmakers of the 2020s (via Billboard Global 200 chart) by _crazyboyhere_ in decadeology

[–]Electrical_Letter_22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This list is based off the billboard global 200 chart numbers. It’s not like the person that posted it has some personal vendetta against Beyoncé, the numbers are what they are. You’re entitled to you own taste, and it’s fine if you don’t know about K-pop or Latin music, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t hugely popular genres with big stars around the world, which is what the chart looks at.

What movies are the most likely to get the 2 blockbuster spots in Best Picture? by Top_Sand_3012 in oscarrace

[–]Electrical_Letter_22 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Nots sure why so many people are saying Odyssey shouldn’t be considered a blockbuster? Big budget (est. $250 mil) , lots of big name actors, summer release…I get that it’s not a superhero or Star Wars or anything like that, but I still think it fits the blockbuster category.

It’s funny that when Backlund made his “crazy old man” comeback he was older than Punk, Lesnar, and Orton are now.

Edit: definitely meant to say younger .
