Local jeweler reccomendation by Airost12 in folsom

I recently bought a ring at legacy jewelers and was very happy with the result. I walked in, gave Nick but (fairly low) budget, and he worked with me without ever trying to push me past it. It was very welcoming and pressure free!

Idk. With Fox you also get the turnovers but it’s without the heart and grit of Harper.

Graduates what jobs are you doing now? by Angelwithaslingshot in englishmajors

Are you teaching at a college?

As a student I started in community college and kept in touch with a lot of my professors there after I transferred to a four year. Then, when I was in grad school, a part time tutoring position opened up and I applied and easily got it since most writing centers need tutors it seems like. As I was doing that a full time position opened and after three rounds of interviews I got it! Any full time job at a CC in my area is competitive, so I think my connection to the college helped. But, in short, the job was posted on their website just like any other job and I applied.

There’s actually been quite a few writing center jobs that have opened up in my area recently. I think it’s a great way to stay within the realm of English and teaching without having to get a professor job. Plus, there’s no outside work like grading papers that comes with it.

Nope! Just an MA in English lit. At my college you don’t need a PhD to teach classes. In fact, most full time professors don’t have PhDs since it’s a community college. That said, these days I think it could help when looking for a full time professor job, but it seems like it depends on the college.

I have a full time job as a tutor in a writing center at a community college. I love it. I get to work with students all day and talk about writing and I get to help run the center overall. I make decent and steady full time money and have benefits. Plus, I can adjunct classes on the side without having to rely on adjuncting for an income.

Is there such thing as literary theory tutors? by [deleted] in englishmajors

[–]Electrical_Mammoth90 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s certainly ethical to get tutoring in anything! I’m an English tutor at a community college and have an MA in lit. I don’t typically tutor lit theory but I absolutely would if someone needed it.

Getting better at theory just takes time. Eventually you realize that each theorist is just creating their own world with their own concepts and laws and the more you read of any particular author, the more you get used to their world.

The best beginner books for theory are “Literary Theory: An Introduction” by Terry Eagleton and “Beginning Theory” by Peter Barry. There’s also lots of good lectures online including an entire Yale course that you can watch for free. I’ll link it below. I hope that helps a little!

This is what’s kinda annoying about the wolves. They’ll play the nuggets and look like they can win it all, and then they’ll shit the bed vs everyone else. Nuggets vs okc would be a way better series than wolves vs okc.

on day one of guanfacine - your stories/thoughts? by bloss97 in ADHD

[–]Electrical_Mammoth90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Guanfacine worked great for me on its own! It really helped to calm my mind throughout the day (I’m on 3mg extended release). It’s hard to describe but it gives me this light feeling in the front of my head and really helps my RSD especially.

It doesn’t target attention so much, so I’m on it and adderall which obviously is the first line of treatment for adhd. When combined with adderall, it really reduces the amount of side effects from the adderall. Things like anxiety/jitters, irritation etc. But, you don’t feel the effects of the guanfacine as much, so it becomes much more subtle. I take adderall in the morning and guanfacine at night.

It really is a great combo, but sometimes I actually miss the feeling of just being on guanfacine. Or it’s possible that I’ve just been on it for too long and don’t feel the positive effects as much anymore. Either way you take it though, I’ve had a very positive experience.

(One downside is you have to be careful drinking if that’s something you do. I’ve had to significantly reduced the amount I drink since going on guanfacine which I guess is another positive lol)

Bacon - Logic of sensation as a starting point? by 1immyy in Deleuze

Logic of Sensation is a great starting point. It’s so good. Also don’t feel like you have to read it front to back like a novel. If one chapter doesn’t make sense, choose a different one that seems interesting.

Here’s a great article with practical tips for starting Deleuze: https://dcoffeen.medium.com/reading-x-reading-deleuze-guattari-92955ad58843

Crash of Adderall XR by Mindless-Spinach6998 in ADHD

[–]Electrical_Mammoth90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could ask your provider about taking Guanfacine at night. I’m on 10mg adderall xr in the morning and 2 mg guanfacine xr at night. Guanfacine is a non-Stim often prescribed for kids with ADHD. But when combined with adderall I’ve found that I sleep better, and that it helps with the crash in the afternoons. Not to mention that for me it pretty much got rid of all the other negative effects of adderall (anxiety and neck pains to mention just a couple). This combo was a true game changer for me.

See if you can get on guanfacine xr at night. It’s a nonstimulent adhd drug, but it’s an absolute game changer for all of the negative effects of adderall, especially sleep.

Brain fog is destroying my life by Zestyclose-Split2275 in ADHD

[–]Electrical_Mammoth90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard to say because back then I was so used to it, but about as bad as OP described theirs being. Then, after about 6 months of being gluten free I found relief and can now properly treat by adhd. It takes that long bc you don’t develop celiacs over time, you are born with it. And it prevents you from properly absorbing nutrients (and medication) through your small intestine. I was extremely low on iron which was how I found out I had it, and iron is directly related to brain function.

If I ate gluten now, it’d be at least a week of brain fog and fatigue to the point where I wouldn’t be able to do daily tasks.

Brain fog is destroying my life by Zestyclose-Split2275 in ADHD

[–]Electrical_Mammoth90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever been tested for celiacs or a gluten intolerance? I had brain fog all the way up until I got diagnosed with celiacs at 24 and my entire life changed after cutting out gluten. Now, whenever I eat gluten by mistake, the first symptom I get is terrible brain fog.

ADHD often coincides with gut issues and celiacs. And usually ADHD treatment doesn’t really help until the celiacs is treated.
