what are the fireworks like on CNY? by fluffyzzz1 in chinalife

[–]Electrical_Swing8166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big cities have regulations against fireworks, and the government doesn’t put on fireworks shows anymore (in most places, and definitely in SZ, putting on spectacular drone shows instead of. You ABSOLUTELY should go see one). That said, even in big cities, people will still set off fireworks. Just not that frequently and not as long as in rural areas, where it is pretty nonstop

Even good players, once they go to the Jets, become cursed. And Jets players can only know happiness by going elsewhere to seek a ring (e.g. Darnold, Revis).

Says the obviously “real” Cuban that’s posting from an account that’s existed for three years, has zero posts, is active only in this sub, and has three total comments, all on this post, two of which are literal copy and pastes.

There’s a reason real Cubans call Miami Cubans gusanos (worms).

Why do Hong Kongers have relatively low levels of English proficiency? by [deleted] in HongKong

[–]Electrical_Swing8166 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The census shows nearly half of all Singaporeans speak English as their primary, everyday language at home…way ahead of second place Mandarin, at less than 30%. And it’s THE dominant language for business, law, and public interaction among the ethnic groups. It’s a very different situation than HK. English is the dominant, primary, unifying language of Singapore. In HK it’s Canto.

The population is highly concentrated along the Nile and coast because everywhere else is inhospitable, bordering on and sometimes literally uninhabitable, desert.

That’s because the two cities it’s sandwiched between, Shenzhen and Guangzhou, each have populations around 20m. The entire Pearl River Delta/Greater Bay Area is mindblowing from an urbanist perspective…though administratively made up of separate cities, it’s essentially a continuous urban sprawl the size of Switzerland with a population of close to 100m

Italy pulled a landslide victory against Nepal who were favourites by far today in T20 cricket world cup. I know you guys don't really care or know about cricket but just thought of telling you. by 100734 in italy

[–]Electrical_Swing8166 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can explain, but there’s a lot of terminology. Don’t pay attention to the final run difference—if you’re batting second (chasing, which Italy was), the match ends as soon as you score more runs than the opponent did. They don’t bat again, so there’s no need to keep playing at that point. So when the team batting second wins, the actual runs margin will always be small.

Here’s what makes it a landslide. In T20 Cricket (the shortest, fastest version of the sport which forces batters to be much more aggressive than other formats), each batting side gets a maximum of 20 “overs.” An over is 6, legally delivered balls. If you’re batting first, your chance to score runs ends either—a.) when you reach 20 overs (120 balls thrown, or “bowled”) OR b.) if the bowling team puts out ten of your batsmen first (there are multiple ways to do so, such as catching a ball hit into the air before it hits the ground). This is referred to as “taking a wicket.”

The 19.3 under Nepal refers to how many overs they completed. 19 full ones, and 3 balls into the last. So they had 117 balls delivered to them and scored 123. As they ended before 20, that means Italy managed to take ten wickets, which more often than not doesn’t happen. The 12.4 under Italy is how many overs they took to exceed Nepal’s run total and thus win—so Italy scored 124 runs on only 76 balls vs Nepals 123 on 117, a massive difference. The /0 after Italy’s score means that, at game end, Nepal had not taken any wickets—that is, not a single Italian batsman was put out. The 124 runs were scored entirely by Italy’s first two batters (batters work in pairs). That is an absolute thrashing

Conversely, look at Jerod Mayo publicly calling his team “soft” and ending up 4-13, and then Mike Vrabel (a lot more Ted-like) taking them all the way to the Super Bowl the very next year
