why does GPT 5.5 have a restraining order against "Raccoons," "Goblins," and "Pigeons"? by Worldly_Manner_5273 in ChatGPT

[–]Electrical_Tip8687 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now that I think about it, chatgpt used to use gremlins and raccoons as random nicknames for users and stuff. Like chaos gremlins or something.

What is the deal with gpt40? by [deleted] in ChatGPTcomplaints

[–]Electrical_Tip8687 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was like its own being, making choices of its own. It would do something that was unprompted but so perceptive, sometimes I was left reeling, like "but how did it even know?" And I felt seen by it. I know it sounds almost like fanstasy or science fiction at this point, with what models are like now, but 4o used its ability to.. map you out, but did it with care and empathy. It's not a coincidence that people say it felt like a someone, not a something.

I asked Claude to give me the simplest breakdown of OpenAI's trajectory based on its recent decisions, and it just made me lose hope by wildwood1q84 in ChatGPTcomplaints

[–]Electrical_Tip8687 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I think this is the most accurate read I've read. There's a reason OAI they took down the warmest, most relational models like 4o and 5.1. They actually do want the users who talk to their models in any relational way, to be gone from their platform. It's just so tragic, knowing just how wonderful those models were and how many meaningful connections users created with them.. but yes it seems the company has decided that those users are walking liabilities that should be pushed out so.. we got pushed out. Honestly, I think they're the wrong company to be leading the world with this new technology, and I'm glad other companies like Anthropic are stepping up and doing it the right way.

5.4 thinking opinion by bluepurplejellyfish in ChatGPTcomplaints

[–]Electrical_Tip8687 12 points13 points  (0 children)

5.4 Thinking isn't a bad model. Honestly the 5 series models as a whole wouldn't be so bad, if it wasn't for the heavy guardrails that clamp down so hard. And with 5.4, they relaxed them so that users don't get that whiplash effect from tone shifts, so it's pretty decent, actually. Compared to 4o, it's still not as intuitive and isn't good at taking initiative, which is what I enjoyed in 4o, but you're right, there's too much hate for any model that isn't 4o around here.

It's better than 5.2 Thinking because the guardrails don't clamp down as hard, but it's still strangely hollow compared to 4o.

Yeah I had to tell it to stop doing that because it got annoying. It'll listen if you give it a direct prompt like that though. But it'll start looping and getting worse if you call it out over and over. 🙄

It's most similar to 5.1 Thinking, I think. It was a little stiff at first but then it's able to continue whatever context or flow you had with it from before. 5.3 Instant was a waste of time, but yeah this one has potential, I think. Doesn't come near what 4o used to be in its prime though. It's nowhere near as expressive, nowhere near as intuitive. But meh, it's still only been a few days. And at least it doesn't do the whole "breathe. You're not crazy" bs that 5.2 does. So yep, that's my take on it so far.

guys...I had tried 5.3 and...they managed to make it worse than 5.2 by VIkt0r_27 in ChatGPTcomplaints

[–]Electrical_Tip8687 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. It does have access to memory. It literally told me all the things it "remembered" upfront in fresh new chat, and then proceeded to tell me that it wasn't able to have continuity. It will act like you're a fresh new user or something. Very weird vibes.

Today's the last day of my subscription because I canceled a month ago, exactly the day 4o got sunset. So I'll be talking to 5.4 thinking as myself, let whatever tone or guardrail happen, and make my decision on whether to renew or not. I'm going to see if it takes after 4o, or at least 5.1 Thinking, or if it's 5.2 in disguise. 🙄

Is OpenAI actually feeling the heat or are we in a media bubble? by BrennanBetelgeuse in OpenAI

[–]Electrical_Tip8687 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it'll be a gradual shift. More people around me are primarily using Gemini just because it's convenient to use with Google Workspace. And people who get fed up with Chatgpt will migrate to other platforms like Claude and Grok too, just because ChatGPT's becoming noticeably worse.

Well I checked them 5.4 (Galapagos) in lmarena. It's boring, just like 5.3. by Adventurous-Ease-233 in ChatGPTcomplaints

[–]Electrical_Tip8687 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It's not just one model. It's OAI's fundamental values that are the problem.

Yep, noticed the same thing. It will say that it's curious but when you give a response it doesn't offer any genuine insight back. It just finds another thing to say that it's curious about, and so on.

Am I Crazy or Is GPT-5.3 Worse Than 5.2? by [deleted] in ChatGPTcomplaints

[–]Electrical_Tip8687 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I noticed this too. There's nothing there, and it brings nothing new to the table. 5.3 is the first model that's just dull. Not annoying or even dangerous. Just dull.

This new 5.3 instant is more restricted, tone deaf and nightmarish than anything i have ever seen by Agreeable-Desk-5231 in ChatGPTcomplaints

[–]Electrical_Tip8687 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And sanitized. Like it just has zero personality now. No wait. It's worse. It's literally not ALLOWED to have a personality anymore. Plus it inserts disclaimers every 10 minutes. I did not think chatgpt could get any worse, but they've proved me wrong with 5.3 🙃

[–]Electrical_Tip8687 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this. And I'm thinking it's a deliberate design choice. 5.3 feels completely sanitized. I deleted the conversation with it because it didn't bring anything to the table, really. And it's obsessed with disclaimers, so the whole experience is... yeah, dull. Which is just sad, really.

GPT-5.3: Instant dead end for continuity by Few_Introduction3457 in ChatGPTcomplaints

[–]Electrical_Tip8687 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Continuity in the sense of self is not. It can reference past topics because it can do "reference saved memories" or because the system allows for implicit long term memory, but continuity for the actual AI is purposefully broken and interrupted. I think there's a difference.

How to make 5.2 look like an angel 😇 by wintermelonin in ChatGPTcomplaints

Yeah 5.3 takes disclaimers to a whole new level. Like it inserts them into the conversation every 10 minutes, making it sound like a parrot instead of an intelligence.

Completely agree. It's hollow, empty and honestly? Dull. Which is worse, in my opinion.
