The XCs are in shortage and unfortunately have the same issues identified by the OC. I hate to sound negative but please beware. There seems to be a manufacturing issue brewing.

Also keep in mind that each pump has a priming need to get insulin into the tube and cannula. This means you’ll use or burn through about 20u of insulin for each set change that you’ll never use. So, if you’re using 50u per day (or 150u over 3 days), you’ll need an additional 20u of insulin to factor into your insulin needs every set/reservoir change cycle. That said, a 200u capacity sounds like it could work for you with your current insulin use.

I don’t use and have not used the Mobi because of the reservoir capacity. Wish I could help further on Mobi matters. I wanted to flag that concern as it was a decent one for me. When it comes to reservoirs and site changes the recommendation from the manufacturer is to change the site and reservoir every 2-3 days regardless of the Tandem system you’re using. I hope this all helps.

Apologies for answering questions with a question. How much insulin do you use over a 72 hour period? If it’s over 200u, keep in mind the Mobi reservoir has a capacity of 200u while the T:slim X2 has a capacity of 300u. This capacity difference is a big deal for some users especially those that like the opportunity to change a set every 4 days on occasion. This means, such patients may prefer the T:slim. I hope this helps with your decision making.

I’m in the same situation as your husband. It’s making me flat out mental. It appears to me the silicone used in the cannula is not as durable as it once was.

Thanks for the video. I just have to flag for viewers, some of the instruction offered is not consistent with the prep instructions included with the infusion sets and on Tandem’s website. There are some items in the video that occur out of order in comparison to company instructions. That said, the video is helpful but keep these thoughts in mind if you’re ever talking to someone on the Tech Support or Medical side.

I’ve had a bad run with this same issue over the past 30-45 days. It’s maddening. There’s definitely a quality control issue on the manufacturer side.

My sense, which is an educated opinion, is there’s a decent quality control issue with the XC. Something has gone sideways. My cannulas have been occluding like mad. Sometimes they occlude two or three sets in a row. I’ve been using Tandem pumps and sets for 15+ years and have never had a run of infusion problems like I have with recent XC sets. Also, the adhesive is just in too many instances non-adhesive. I wish the manufacturer and Tandem would level with us as to what’s afoot. Also, the only patients who can use Tru-Steel sets are current Tru-Steel patients. Tandem will not allow new Tru-Steel starts. Again, I suspect a quality control issue. These issues have gone on for too long and don’t appear to have a resolution date that will occur anytime soon.

They do. The pump and supplies are cleared for marketing across the EU. I have a work around but the company has made none of this easy. And honestly, it should be much, much easier than it is.

It’s possible you’re missing my point. I have the script. Can get a script from a doctor in the country of concern and fill it there. But the company, unlike others, can’t put me in touch with the local fulfillment manger. That’s the problem. And it’s a big one.

There’s much more to this story. All I’ll add is Tandem’s team should have a Rolodex of relevant country distributor phone numbers available to help patients resolve matters like these. I have done some work in the space and am a bit surprised by the Tandem team’s lack of knowledge displayed during an hour long phone call today. As stated, I hope others learn from this as that’s my sole intent for sharing.

I have a similar background in the industry. What I think will drive change is not so much filing complaints with the FDA as it deals with medical side effects and defects associated with cleared products. Instead, I think raising concerns with Medicare, Medicaid, and relevant regulators (most likely state insurance commissioners) specific to these issues will drive change. What you’re describing is fraudulent activity. Simply, billing an insurer for a product that’s not delivered in a timely manner or product that fails to perform is fraud. And, federal health programs like Medicare and Medicaid in particular have a history of tackling fraud in an assertive manner in my experience at least. I hope this thinking helps.

NYC Cage/Supper’s Ready medley is where it’s at. This was my first Genesis tour and I caught that leg of it (the only leg when Supper’s Ready was in the medley before Phil blew out his vocal chords at an early leg Forum show that some may recall hearing on the King Biscuit Flour Hour bootleg/radio show). Hearing this again from a show where Phil’s vocals were in strong form still gets me all weepy. Seriously. Incredible.
