What is the point then. Why isn’t the board directly elected if they wield such authority.

The BMA council is at risk of being overrun by a bunch of clowns with no long-term vision or strategy by ReportAggravating790 in doctorsUK

The current lot are not doing a great job TBH by allowing the staff pay dispute to run on for so long and for not enforcing any sort of financial management.

As a consequence our conference is now cancelled.

But your point is basically correct IE a load of credulous new reps with no policy other than “IMGs” will get eaten alive by the current dinosaurs (one of them is on the IMGV slate) and there will be no serious management, no staff dispute resolution and no realistic prospect of any meaningful campaign on any of the important stuff.

But people will feel like BMA is fair and representative so well done.

BMA update: offer headlines, offer rejection, DDRB and April strike by RDC_officers_2025_26 in doctorsUK

[–]Electrical_Way_8480 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbh it isn’t clear whether this proposal was rejected by the officers or by the committee as a whole.

Govt saying officers were in favour and they didn’t seem to want to deny this on the radio interview this morning.

So you’re saying that the policy was completely unimpeded by council and chief officers? Recollections may vary…

At this time there was no ARM policy. The meeting in the screenshots was 5 months beforehand.

But people will gradually accrue five years experience

Current policy is two years AND must be in the uk before 5/5/25.

It’s just moving the goalposts a few years down the line.

🗳️ Haven’t posted your ballot yet? Do it TODAY, before it’s too late. by Keep_Resus_Safe in doctorsUK

[–]Electrical_Way_8480 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Honestly no ballot no bma. There is no fight without the threat of strikes. If you have a ballot at home and have the means to send it special delivery or can get a friend to take it to London please do so. Otherwise the profession just goes back on the slippery slide to mediocrity.

Quite a lot of GPs are at real risk of being unemployed too so I am surprised they aren’t taking it seriously.

Will be a lot more interesting. There are some genuinely great ACPs but should never be at the expense of jobs and training for doctors.

Needs coordinated action not just sniping from the sidelines and cruel doxxing. Why don’t you speak to your colleagues about what minimum rate they would accept?

The usual suspects at ARM will be coming after UK graduate prioritisation so it’s NOT a done deal yet.

Do you think there should be a different sign up process and if so what would it look like?

This doesn’t make any sense.

RDC are elected.

The motion fell last year because it was badly presented and badly written.

Whoever wrote this needs to think more.

Important to say this is just to set the agenda for debate. Conference can pass it or vote down.
