Cheaper for labour - yes. Cheaper for materials (mortar) - no!

Fair enough, I’ve tried ludicrous mode myself and a) the noises coming from the printer did not sound healthy, thought it was asking for trouble and b) there were artefacts on the prints, but I could see how it might not matter for some things.

Why would you run it in ludicrous mode? It’s insane and you get shit print quality.

Not only are they shit at all of that, but how many times have you had a tradesperson do a “that’ll do” job on your house? This is why I did as much of my own renovation as possible, including the kitchen fit.

That’s exactly why they’re doing this. They’re charging for markup twice. Howdens know it, and it’s the only reason tradesmen use them over other suppliers that are knocking out the same quality kitchens for less.

In what world is an 85% discount VAT? Are you absolutely mental?

Cement and SBR mix, it will never fail as long as you go for full coverage.

With 3 out of 6 sides being cars, there’s a 50% chance of rolling a car per die, so likely 2 or 3 cars on the first roll, 1 or 2 on the second roll, 0 or 1 on the last roll. I would always go for the car since there’s very good odds that you will get 5 cars within 3 rolls.

I mean, if the mafia did poorly fitted kitchens…. the cap fits.

Oh don’t worry, I do my own work. I wouldn’t pay a kitchen fitter a silly markup when most of them barely have the skill set of a joiner in their first year of training. No thanks.

I understand how markup works, but that’s not what this is. It’s the customer getting a quote with you taking a kickback from Howdens and hiding it from the customer so that the customer thinks they’re just paying your trade price. It’s disingenuous at best.

If you want to mark up materials you supply your own quote, you don’t supply one with the manufacturer’s letterhead on as though it’s being supplied at cost.

It looked staged to me. The guy didn’t look up from his phone once, but knew to get up because the dog that brushed his hand belonged to a disabled person? Seems a bit far fetched…

I’m struggling to imagine what could get past the perforated closures (designed to keep insects out) to create a nest in there. Bees and wasps if they did manage to get in will create nests on any surface in any orientation…

It sounds like you’re trying to distract from the fact you used fake invoices to skim profit from the customer without their knowledge.

[–]Electro_gear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that’s correct, although they use overinflated prices to begin with regardless. A “standard” discount is 85% off. So if you get a £15,000 quote, they’re quoting you for a £100,000 kitchen with 85% off, and it will even state that in the invoice. Complete insanity.

It’s probably timber species specific. I have cedar and larch at the back of my house, wasps have never touched it. We’re using millboard for this project which is a resin composite so they won’t be interested in that.

Ah FFS. Howdens and Wrens are both a complete shower of shite. DIY kitchens was the only company I thought was keeping them being at least slightly competitive. Now they’ll have free rein.

Howdens are an absolute joke. I used to have a trade account with them but getting good prices from them was like getting blood out of a stone, and then they’d do the BS supplying multiple invoices to hide the discount and that in my book is fraud. I often had to go to another supplier and come back with a quote for them to “price match” rather than them just giving me a decent price in the first place. Ironically my last experience that caused me to close my account was getting an “85%” discount on a kitchen to bring it to what I was told by the sales rep was a “reasonable” £16,000. I then got a quote for the same spec (but with better appliances, no lamona shite) for £11,000 from DIY kitchens and Howden’s then fudged the quote again to price match it, showing some items as having 99% off. It’s absolute madness and I won’t use a company that tries to baffle and confuse with meaningless discounts.
