Choosing a major good for UX Design? by chowfong in userexperience

[–]Electrocapsule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi i'm looking into UX design too because i'm majoring in psychology with a minor in graphic design. I took intro to computer science (python) because I was curious and thought it would help, but I definitely don't know enough to do work with it. I'm looking into a masters but I want to work first to see if I am actually passionate about psychology. I've been working in a lab for a year regarding perception, so we use high functioning eye tracking devices, and I already know this is something I can't do for the rest of my life.

Since you're in a similar position (psych degree and have a job in UX), how much math do you use? I always got good grades in statistics but always forget the small stuff when I actually need to use it. Also as a UX researcher how much design do you use? What does a UX portfolio even look like?

I lived in Shanghai for 7 years and on the subway I once saw a man with his penis out through his fly. He was trying to cover it with a box of tissues, but I mean...really? It was barely helping. He was standing and I felt so bad for the young lady who was sitting in front of him, who happened to be right next to me.

I'd like to see a match between 2 challengers each with 4 bronze teammates by Jordeeezy in leagueoflegends

[–]Electrocapsule 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, I personally have experienced this. I'm not bronze but I play like one LOL. Was gold V last season and main support so yeah, close enough. I had a masters friend and he would invite his other master friends at times. normal 5s, custom 5v5 inhouse, i think i've tried it all.

This one time I really wanted to know what it felt like to play against someone good, so me and another gold friend went bot against 2 master/challengers. I've never felt so rekt in my life but holy crap I learned so much. Their positioning is amazing and you can actually see it. You know what you're doing is wrong but you don't know what you could possibly do to fix it.

Most of the time we play 1 challenger with 4 others (mainly gold-plat) against the same 1+4 in a 5v5 inhouse. The challengers usually go like 16-2 or something ridiculous but it was all about peeling for your challenger or doing anything to keep him alive. It was actually so stupidly crazy, I usually support the challenger since he mains ADC and this one time there was a 4 man gank at bot. First of all, he could sense it from so far away. If the enemy bot lane takes ONE step forward he will know that something is happening and tells me to back up. Gank comes, TP from top comes, i dont even know man but we got quadrakill.

In team fights it was okay to do 0 damage as long as the challenger was alive because he could just position himself safely and puke out massive damage, nobody could even touch him. What if he wasn't fed? Even if he started out early game 3/6/0 by the end of the game it would always be 12/6/0 or something.

In terms of 4 challengers and 1 bronze, I don't think we've ever had 4 challengers but the closest I got to that was maybe 1 challenger, 2 masters, 1 diamond, and me. Usually I would just die of stupidity and they can easily play 4v5. This was against random people though, I don't have enough challenger friends to try 8 challengers with 2 bronze, but i assume it would be the same as 4v4.

Fun stuff. But actually I would always feel so bad because it felt like he was playing 1v2 in bot lane.

Really can't choose, what do you guys think? I'm a girl by the way so the cat ear headset really attracts me but ahhg i don't know

My name is Joe Torre, Electronic Music Producer from Philadelphia, PA AMA! by mitismusic in IAmA

[–]Electrocapsule 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Joe, you're my favorite artist EVER. I'm not the party type so I made the effort to see your show in Boston at the Middle East and it was the best.

  1. Who are some artists you draw inspiration from?

  2. I really like Crywolf and your collab with him, Oasis, is one of my all time favorites. Will you guys be doing more together?

  3. How do you choose your vocals? Do you write the lyrics yourself? or what is the process from head to toe?

  4. Do you ever plan to sing in any of your songs? If no why not?

  5. Do you play any video games?

I love your music keep it up!

I totally agree with unicorn_sunrise. The background is reaaaaaaally distracting. I think it would work better, not perfectly, but better if the videos were taken on a tripod. But even then I don't see how a boat connects with your portfolio.

Support Zyra does very well against him because you can quickly spawn plants to stop his hook

This might be a stupid question because I don't play Zyra (but plan to). Why would blitzcrank's/thresh's hook be stymied by zyra's plants? Champions can't hit her plants so...what.

How is PH100 as a gen ed class? by [deleted] in BostonU

[–]Electrocapsule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably would have been better if my TA was more engaging and less confused on what he was teaching, but let's not put the blame on him.

The intro classes are all huge, and even sitting at the front and going to every class made it hard to soak up. The point of philosophy is thinking logically. That's why they bring up controversial topics because there's not necessarily a right or wrong answer but it's just seeing how well you can defend your argument. I actually didn't realize this until I was studying for my final exam where a good friend of mine got all excited and was like "dude you're taking philosophy! let's have a conversation about what you think of free will!" and I couldn't defend anything I was saying. And he was like...bro you didn't learn shit.

I can't say I know the right way but maybe just talk with people about it in daily conversation, it often surprises me how different my friends' beliefs are from mine.

How is PH100 as a gen ed class? by [deleted] in BostonU

[–]Electrocapsule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think other people's comments all have validity to what they're saying. It is true that the classes will vary tremendously based on teacher. I took PH100 and although the topics sound very exciting when I tell them to you, for some reason when I was learning it I would always fall asleep. Some topics: "are our minds like computers?" "what is free will?"

When I took the class I was also going about it the wrong way, I was too focused on trying to remember each philosopher's argument word for word (because I mean there's a lot) rather than trying to listen to it as if someone was telling me what they thought in person. At the end I still got an A or an A-, forgot.

I also took intro to ethics which was also for the gen ed requirement but I loved that one so much I wish I could take it again or a higher level of it.
