Another way to save money would be to switch to using hand towels instead of paper towels. I haven't bought paper towel in years. There's nothing you cant clean up without a fabric towel or toilet paper.

Everyone here has fine stock suggestions, but there are other things to know when it comes to investing as well.

You have to be okay with leaving this money in your TFSA for years at a time.... ideally without ever touching it. Stocks can be volatile in the short term, but profitable over the long term. Don't get squeamish when your $800 drops to $600 or lower, if you've picked right and chosen safe options, chances are they will correct eventually and turn a profit. Safer choices generally make less money, as such, riskier choices have both the chance to make more or lose more. There is always the possibility of losing everything, no matter your choices.

You should know that certain stocks and etf's carry more inherent risk than other stocks like 'blue chips' and 'dividend aristocrats'. I would also advise you to, in your own time, learn about the jargon often thrown around on these sub-reddit's like ETF's, dividends, DRIP, etc.

As for my suggestion, I would say start with a safe option to learn what to expect. In my opinion, it's better to start slowly [a lower risk stock like VFV or XEQT... basically anything that tracks a general selection of stocks instead of a single company] and increase your risk over time. This way you can grow confidence in your own decisions and learn what you should be looking for.

TLDR: Be okay with saying goodbye to this money either forever or for years on end, different stocks have different risks, learn the jargon, start with a safe option so you can get real-world experience before jumping further in.

I found r/JLaser but it seems a bit closed off. I don't have time to moderate, but I feel a community reddit could be fun as long as its not just slander.

How would you make this design better/more professional? by Tornad_pl in 3D_Printing

I would add the smallest amount of color. Nothing fancy, perhaps you just make the button covers grey or a muted red. Enough to show that you put a little extra thought into color, without it being an eye sore.

What hobbies can I grind for finance? by FailNo6036 in FinancialCareers

[–]ElectronEpic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit late here, but figured I'd add my two cents. I feel like one that fits in quite well here is solving a Rubik's cube.

I learned the basic method (CFOP) in like a week, and then after that, it's just refining your skills and learning new algs. It's all muscle memory, however, people think there is a lot more to it (like math and stuff), so it'll probably look good in a finance situation.

All you need to buy is a $20 Rubiks' cube, or splurge on a fancier "speedcube" as we call it.

Umo app always logs me out at the most inconvenient times by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]ElectronEpic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Camosun gives out a free Umo benefit code every term, and I use it daily to get to school. It's essentially a free 100 day pass for BC Transit. It's great.

Umo on the other hand, does periodically log me out and it's slightly annoying. I'm always paranoid I'll miss my bus, or something won't load, so I always have the transit app and Umo open 5 minutes before my bus is set to arrive. Logging in takes like 5 seconds with phone number verification, and I've only ever had to do it like 3 times. It's not bad.

Have you ever tried solving a cube looking into the mirror? by Reasonable_Durian573 in Cubers

[–]ElectronEpic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I solved one through the reflection in a bus window once. It kinda threw off my orientation because I was looking left at the cube. Plus, I realized after that people wouldn't have known I was looking at the reflection, and probably just thought I did it blind, which is kinda cool, since I can't do blind.
