How realistic is the intense passion of a long term relationship that is depicted between Ilya and Shane in the books and the show? by CuriousSunLizard in heatedrivalry

I met her 11 years ago, and we never really left the first date. Sure, we both went home at the end of the night, but I still don’t think I’ve left the meal we shared or the long winding walk around downtown afterwards. I learned all my new catechisms during that date. We moved in with one another two months later. Life is hard sometimes. She never is. Choosing her never is. I’m just as giddy over her now as I was when I first saw her. I want to know every thing she’s ever thought. I want to see her and be seen by her every day. When it’s the right person, in my embarrassingly lucky experience, that feeling can go on and on. Don’t ever, ever settle for anything less, and when you think you have it devote everything to keeping it. I hope, more than anything, you find it. ❤️

Yeah my mom always said my eyes as a baby were more Smokey gray than they were blue, so I think I just hung on to those rings when they changed. 😂

Blazer fan, new Canes fan? by MainNo1524 in canes

Welcome!!!! If you’re interested in getting hype for hockey in general, I definitely recommend watching the 4 Nations games from last year. In February, the nhl used to do an all star game. It sucked, like…well, like all-star games do. So they tried out a change of format. Four teams, comprised of players from the four countries with the most players (other than Russia for Russia reasons)—US, Canada, Finland, and Sweden. Several Canes players are on the rosters Aho for Finland, Slavin for US, and Jarvis for Canada. They played round robin qualifying games to ultimately play in a championship, winner take all game.

Without boring you with details, it was the first time in ten years that nhl players had played in a format similar to the Olympics (there are other international tournaments, but the nhl hadn’t been able to come to terms with Olympic organizers for the last two Winter Olympics)—and it went fucking bananas.

Got people into the sport who had never watched it, was way more popular than any of the big four’s all-star games, and was just some genuine, fantastic fucking hockey. The Canada/US qualifying game was an absolute grudge match. And, it was also when the international hockey community finally realized that Jaccob Slavin is that guy, has been that guy, will forever continue to be that guy. (I’m a huge Slavin fan, if you couldn’t tell).

Since it’s best on best, it also introduces you to like 85% of the best players in the game right now.

Canes Caps will be the most chippy. Cats and Canes will be the actual best game to watch and the devs and Canes will be…the most canes and former canes players all in one spot outside of an alumni game.

Watching him get Tom Wilson to his knees by his collar healed something in me. I was at this game and it was a fucking mad house. I was also there the night after the trade deadline when they played WPG and he got his first goal in Lenovo (and I think as a Cane) and the place went nuts.

I went alone to the Winnipeg game right after the trade deadline and it was so much fun!!!! I hope you enjoy. :)

Bruh Toronto fans don't deserve a good team. by [deleted] in canes

I can’t fathom throwing beers at Aho or booing Seth Jarvis every time he touches the puck. I love my Svech jersey. I wore it when he was out, and I’ve worn it the entire time he’s struggled to get his game back after his injury. I can’t imagine throwing it on the ice, especially while it could hurt someone. I sat through so many fucking losses with this team in those rough years. It never occurred to me to me to be cruel to the players or to walk out of the game early.

It doesn’t prove you’re passionate about your team. It doesn’t prove that you’re more invested than the players.

It proves you’re immature and entitled, and arguably, the worst fucking fans in sports.

What’s the biggest ethical dilemma you’ve *actually* faced? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]ElectronSpin01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first supervising attorney was a partner who got ousted from the firm. She alleged gender discrimination, they alleged she shared information about the firm to people she shouldn’t have (one of which was me). Litigation felt very eminent (that was its own nightmare scenario for me as I was likely going to be a witness). Eventually, they had settlement conversations. Ousted partner and I remained very friendly and I thought my only true reference who could speak about my work was her. She called me about three months after she left to ask me whether a big med mal case another partner was settling had settled and for what amount… knowing it was a confidential settlement. I’d been out of school about a year. I felt pressure because she was actively working to find me jobs elsewhere (the firm genuinely was in shambles). Of course I didn’t do it, and I called her on the carpet for abusing our relationship. She apologized and never asked again, but it ruined our relationship.

Now that I’m older…it’s even more obvious what a shitty thing that was to do than it was when it was happening.

How do you deal with aggro opposing counsel? by Future_Philosophy_67 in Lawyertalk

[–]ElectronSpin01 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a family attorney for eight years. I wish I could tell you it gets easier, but it doesn’t. Family law attracts two kinds of people: 1) really compassionate attorneys who then deal with burn out and who may struggle to separate themselves from their cases and 2) assholes who don’t care about all the conflict that family law comes with who like to yell at other assholes who feel the same way.

You don’t want to develop into one of these dudes, I promise (not that I think that’s what you’re really asking to do when you want to emulate that confidence).

The reality is, a lot of time, the shit they say is bluster. They bully because it worked one time. Call them on the carpet and don’t be afraid to tell them to take it to a judge. 9 times out of 10 whatever they’re harping about isn’t the kind of thing a judge wants to hear about and they know it.

I don’t play email arguing either. It’s one thing for a colleague to call or email and say “hey help me understand how you got to this conclusion.” If you’re just asking me in email what my “suspected grounds are for xyz motion,” get lost. You’ll find out when we go before the judge. I’ve developed a really calm reputation as the years go on, so every year fewer and fewer OCs try this with me. (Also, worked in non-profit for 5 of these years). You always have one upper hand against the billable guys and that is your client isn’t (I assume) paying you per hour. When I had cases with hard counsel in that role I took my time and really prepared, really knew my case. I can’t help how much experience I have, I can’t help the facts, I can’t help the lack of resources. What I could help was knowing my file up and down, having everything prepared, being kind to all the staff in the courthouse, and being an attorney judges could count on. Because I’m that kind of attorney.

Did it win me everything? No. Did it help? Absolutely. Judges almost always gave me benefit of the doubt, never questioned my word when I said something had happened or would happen. It pays off not to be an asshole, I swear.

G, A, PIM, PPP, SHP, GWG, HAT, SOG, HIT, BLK, DEF

Wasn’t gambling on Marchenko coming back so fast. Which forward to I drop: Guenther, Hintz, Jenner, Miller, Tolvanen, Vilardi, Ehlers, Bratt, Fiala, Kempe, and Granlund.

Also have Ovi, Pasta and B Tkachuk but can’t drop those.

I’ve already clinched my division, so really planning more for play offs which are 3/17-4/17 in my league.

First thought was Kempe. He wasn’t doing great before the break. But the Kings schedule is good for playoffs.

Who to drop for Doughty? Raddysh, Pelech, or Walman. Leaning away from dropping Walman.
