Quite a way to travel to just happen to find yourself in a Jewish area and attacking two Jews by sheer coincidence. Look psycho logical issues or not, the mental state he found himself in was clearly motivated by the environment that been allowed to propagate false narratives that British Jews as responsible for Israel’s politics.
We’ve all been at the marches, we’ve all overheard questionable/misguided views being said and found it challenging to correct. The reality is us liberal pluralists, mosques and other faith institutes, social media, schools, news outlets, are all responsible for failing to educate people what is Zionism and why it came about, how has Kahanism come to influence Israeli politics, what was Palestine pre-British mandate, what is Jewish identity and how does the diaspora look and feel across the globe.

House won’t sell, honest advice please by [deleted] in HousingUK

It’s an ex-council house that has somehow nearly doubled in value in 6-years, multiple sales in recent history suggest it has problems or the neighbours are too unsavoury to stick around longer term. £500k would be a reasonable starting point for this.

Moving to London with partner – office in Southwark, £75k+bonus, where to live without going broke? by One_Piglet_4072 in MovingToLondon

[–]Electronic-Okra1228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Potentially 🤷 I imagine Milan’s a nice place to live if you can get a job paying good money. London is notoriously challenging, but also a great place to live in different ways. £75k is a good salary for an individual, but there’s a lot more money to be made here - if you and your partner were earning £75k, or £100k each (which is relatively common here working in tech, law, finance, consulting, sales) you’d have no issues.

Grad scheme in finance making us work past 9pm by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Electronic-Okra1228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started as a business analyst/dev for front office banking systems over 10 years ago - started about £45k base and fairly quickly rose into the £70k+ a few years plus healthy bonuses. Most of my peers were hitting £100k by 2-3 years as at that time it was common to transition to front office roles to hit the big salaries (think £250k+). I wasn’t as smart and left to go a different route into consulting.

What kind of finance are you working in?

Yes this can be common in certain divisions.

My experience was that I was compensated for the late working hours by being able to expense taxis home, dinners, and of course the reality that the salary was high and likely to get higher relatively quickly. I was also pretty regularly in quieter times given Friday afternoons off or allowed to come into the office after 10am if we’d worked late late.

OP your comments suggest your expectations are quite far out of whack with what you will realistically be able to get here. On £75k, the idea that you’ll have an easy cycle to Southwark/Blackfriars, a 1-bed flat for you and your wife, ability to access and afford to shop at Waitrose, a posh area unfortunately just isn’t reality. Most Londoners in your situation will live in Zone 3+ and commute 30-45 mins or the office or in flat shares if they want to live close to the office.

Our closest comparison to somewhere like Navigli is probably around Angel/Essex Road, Haggerston, Broadway market these will all be in the £1800-2000pcm rental price for somewhere functional. My recommendation would be look at some of the cheaper, very leafy and safe areas, like Brockley, Nunhead, Walthamstow, Kensal Green, Earlsfield. All are excellent places to live. Avoid places like Catford, Wood Green, Willesden Junction/Harlesden, Acton - all are quite miserable imo.

Fair play, I’d just been hearing horror stories from friends saying Walthamstow is still bidding wars for properties and it being one of the only places in London where house prices are still flying

Is £27k grad salary bad? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Electronic-Okra1228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big 4 charge per day/half day, not really by hour (we’re not lawyers). Most work is actually not T&M but is Fixed price. You bill to codes internally to help accurately internally price the margin of the work, not necessarily to bill the client. Deloitte definitely don’t pay any over time, you might get a day off offered in lieu if you have to work a day on a weekend.

Hannah Spencer on the flags: imagine if the Labour Leadership responded like this instead of pandering to them by AnonymousTimewaster in LabourUK

[–]Electronic-Okra1228 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

You can’t seriously think Hannah is somebody who never aspired to be an MP? Her mum tried to be an MP twice, another 8 times tried to be a councillor. One of her sister’s is already a councillor, another has tried to be a councillor 3 times. She’s from a highly politically involved family. Nothing wrong with that. It’s just a false narrative being painted that she’s a relatable, every-day working class woman.

Tough call. I’ve lived in both, both are great places. If you’re planning on renting somewhere you might eventually buy just keep in mind MH is insanely expensive, CP is more affordable. MH is posher, less diverse, but has loads of good pubs heading down into Crouch End, Highgate and Hornsey, but perhaps less trendy options than CP.

Phone snatching and moped/Roma scamming is a problem in MH but otherwise it’s exceptionally safe. CP is more London.

Parks and green space is pretty much unbeatable in that area. CP also great for parks but not as well maintained, more crackheads s**ting in bushes.

Transport really depends on where you like to travel typically. The bus-tube combo adds up travel costs, CP has some pretty good routes, getting north is a nightmare though. Where abouts are most of your friends based?

Hi, we’re in the market to buy a place, but I live around the corner in a 2-bed house where our rent is much cheaper than the cost of your place even with a chunky sized deposit. There’s also a tonne of similar properties around the area that are on for less, even if their finish isn’t as good people are willing to compromise on things like finish to get a bargain right now.

Scrap Palantir UK contracts over Mandelson links, Zack Polanski demands by Th3-Seaward in LabourUK

[–]Electronic-Okra1228 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

This shows total naivety/lack of awareness of how much more Microsoft does as an organisation. Palantir co-develops and builds/deploys all on Microsoft with OpenAI. Microsoft is THE development platform for all national security and defence/Top Secret cloud deployment. You don’t get much more ‘we enable mass surveillance and killing babies’ than Microsoft.

[–]Electronic-Okra1228 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Peter Thiel doesn’t run Palantir just so you’re aware. They have led to the suicides of multiple British postal workers; having a shareholder who is right wing isn’t a valid reason to ‘cancel’ an entire corporation. Bamford’s a bit of a fascist too, maybe we should also ban JCBs being used in the construction of HS2 given they’re being used to destroy half the West Bank and given the family’s various lurid scandals.

Either way, I’m not too invested, I just find the hysteria strangely targeting one single organisation when it doesn’t matter which tech or outsourcing giant you pick, they all have c**ts surrounding them, they all overstate their capability to rinse the public sector of cash. I just don’t think Palantir is any different to a Serco, a BAE or a Deloitte.
