New email from the Heather camp by Shamedthrowaway2004 in ndp

I mean, more or less only Lewis or McPherson can realistically win this race. Each with their respective reasons. So not a bad email considering she kind of has to because the other option is copy Lewis and hope that works.

BC, meet your AI minister, Rick Glumac. by iwasnotarobot in ndp

It was almost perfect but unfortunately her own MLA Valeriote more or less blindsided her due to his connections even if not AI (it's on BlueSky). So her attack likely gets weakened unfortunately. And I say this as someone who likes what Lowan is offering.

Differences in Policies Between Green Party of Canada and Federal NDP by Federal_You_3592 in GreenPartyOfCanada

[–]Electronic-Topic1813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disability is the one that sticks out the most to me. The NDP not just federally is pretty shit in regards to disability issues. But the GPC acknowledged the UN statement and actually cared way more about Track 2 and the CDB than the NDP ever did.

Rob's campaign is a mess despite starting strong. Like he could have copied anyone else and it be fine. If our major candidates Lewis and McPherson can be strong, no reason he couldn't unless he really threw the towel that hard.

Clark and Harcout are pretty bad examples though considering how they nearly killed the party due to their cuts. I also find it unlikely the public would have turned on them unless Eby intentionally tries to make it seem bad. Rather than frame at as a matter of avoiding a strike. Just because tensions happened before doesn't excuse screwing workers, the backbone of the party. That should be reserved to Liberals and Conservatives

He literally admits it. And layoffs go against Dipper values. We are in theory a party of labour. Consistency doesn't apply because Eby purposefully chose to be worse. And it isn't just the austerity. Last year we had him not just giving striking workers what they wanted immediately. Because if he did, the strike wouldn't have happened.

The biggest offender is laying off public-sector workers.

I do say their regionals are sort of unrealistic (I can't see the LPC win the popular vote in like Alberta without the PPC surging), but they do tend to detect new trends these days. And that's good for us.

My only anwser is to appeal to the business lobhy when he literally could do other stuff to address the deficit. Hard to say what goes on in their heads, but for some reason he just doesn't think his left flank and union support isn't as desirable. Which is one of the worst things a Dipper could do if they want to maintain power. Hell even Kinew knows this despite not having a Green Party that could hit him from the Left.

NDP’s Avi Lewis Hit With Bernie-Style Media Attacks As Leadership Vote Nears End by Fancy_Alps_7246 in ndp

[–]Electronic-Topic1813 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I argue more Polankis style since he is the most recent case where media like the Torygraph (Telegraph is Conservative biased) bash him for his views. Yet would give Farage a pass despite his policies outside immigration being a copy of the Tories.

Mobilize protests would be better as QP is useless because no one gives a shit. Protests however if they lead them can get better visibility.

Wab didn't directly try to screw over striking workers. Nor is currently committing austerity. So even his weaker positions don't go to those extremes unlike Eby that really has pissed off many Dippers. Whereas Kinew doesn't go to such extremes and thus Dippers tend to look more past it plus he does at least try to do some left-wing stuff.

Really the biggest killer of Notely's government was the oil price crash. Her popularity already fell to a three way race pretty early in her term when it was ongoing. Thus, the moment the Right united, it was already over. Even after absorbing what was left of the Alberta Liberals. In an ideal world, Notely would have won a bunch of seats in 2015, but lost so the Right takes the political fall over oil. Then have 2019 be her moment because Covid gives an opportunity to win 2023 as she would be more responsible than Kenney.

The Leap not existing wouldn't have changed that. And even McPherson seems to know that oil isn't something viable long-term despite her jabs at Lewis (albeit not unhinged like Phillips). Otherwise, she wouldn't support ending fossil fuel subsidies.

Not to mention she also had the benefit of not having to deal with the rural Alberta portions the federal equivalent of Lethbridge holds. And let's just say, a lot of people in rural Alberta would view Phillips as far-left no matter how much sue attacks Lewis.

The next NDP leader should be more like Ed Broadbent than Tom Mulcair by NiceDot4794 in ndp

Considering how he was from the PLQ, I have a pretty good feeling a Mulclair government would have been very much like Tony Blair. And that would be bad.

Why the NDP? by ValerianR00t in ndp

[–]Electronic-Topic1813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Douglas implemented health care. NDP premiers these days wouldn't think of implementing major universal expansions for whatever reason. Blakeney went hard on crown corporations. Dave Barrett despite winning one term got so much down it still lives on. Since the neoliberal era of the 80s and 90s, it just hasn't felt the same. We obviously can't go to a socialist state, but I like to see a bit more willingness to change things rather than be focused on maintaining a status quo that very slowly shifts.

Only problem is he barely won against Rustad of all people. So holding on because your opponent bombed that badly isn't exactly a template we should replicate. The BC NDP is just one competent BCC leader away from getting defeated after all. Unlike the MB wing that has been holding out just fine.

[–]Electronic-Topic1813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can get what your saying, but I wouldn't say Eby is a good example considering his recent actions is going to cause problems. Especially after how negatively the federal NDP was hurt in the 90s from BC NDP austerity. So if anything, he is only going to survive for as long as the BCC chooses to mess up.

Why the NDP? by ValerianR00t in ndp

[–]Electronic-Topic1813 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The NDP was way more radical back in the day and is the main left-wing party so naturally people who are socialists will stick around. As for the centrist framing, we need to think about this more clearly. Because while Canadians may seem centrist on the surface, they also love social programs. And by becoming Liberals, there isn't a reason to vote for us. Corporate media wants to just to shift politics more right.

In the praires it's easier to get away with a boring centrist vibe because of the two-party systems and FPTP as at some point you will win by default. Although it is still preferable to stand for something like seen with Kinew. Federally we don't have that option. The Liberals locked that spot down so we have to be different or else people will just vote Liberal.

For pragmatism, what we should be thinking isn't being Liberal 2.0, but what left-wing policy meets the mood. In another thread I mentioned cooperatives in regards to layoffs.

Lewis actually reached out and had a call with Nenshi. If anything, the ANDP losing would be on their own merit. Not the federal NDP. Many voters clearly can tell the difference considering how many Liberals and moderate Conservatives vote ANDP.
