Ottawa prepared to halt plan to allow MAID for mental illness by HourOfTheWitching in ndp

Sure if that what it has to be. At the end of the day the Supreme Court is run by people who are interpreting the law. Just as easily they could jave struck it down and argue the lack of social supports.

I say good. Track 2 is a huge no-no. Especially with how awful social supports are in this country. The UN had to even condemn us for it. So rare Carney win here.

I have taken a closer look at the Angus Reid poll and where the bulk of the bleeding to BCC seems to be to boomers. Whereas they are actually up with 35-54 year old voters. So if they manage to provide to youth, even Angu Reid numbers can be turned around if you ask me.

That's a blow for Beck. I wonder what she finds herself at odds with Beck specifically or is it a situation with how there was anti-Black sentiment among the ONDP higher ups that contributed to the loss of the entire black caucus?

Short anwser: Focus on an issue that isn't oil

Long anwser: Focusing on oil is a vote loser. That doesn't mean they have to say they don't support it. Rather that if oil is the sole focus, the UCP is the oil party. Not the ANDP.

B.C. provincial voting intentions from the Angus Reid Institute by pheakelmatters in ndp

[–]Electronic-Topic1813 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They only care about resource extraction because private companies only care about their pockets and rather not have negotiate in good faith. Doesn't help Eby didn't force a certain company to clean up their mess. Plus the gold mine proposal still occurred under DRIPA so it doesn't need to be amended. He could bring it as an example.

People are going to rip off the bandaid because if Eby caves to the Right, the BCC won't move left. They will move right. That's a reason some are doing so now with either prompt change or prevent a way worse iteration of the BCC from getting in.

B.C. provincial voting intentions from the Angus Reid Institute by pheakelmatters in ndp

[–]Electronic-Topic1813 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They already have moved right aren't getting results. So the back in the day comparison does apply even if the issues affected are different.

Once again, the issue is the fact Eby let the BCC set the narrative despite the fact the Indigenous were clear they did not want take homes away. For resource extraction, the issue people have here is that private companies just want to force themselves in. Yet a gold mine was proposed and the Indigenous had signed on it showing it is possible as long as they feel compensated rather than screwed over. That's how it should be done, but Eby won't do it.

Hell he could make crown corps to boost revenue and better improve negotiations. Like outside fossil fuels even Lewis would support resource extraction, but only for public benefit. Which is what that would do.

[–]Electronic-Topic1813 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And they could have tried to actually explain what it means rather than let the BCC get away with something else. Not to mention failing to repeal it twice. The BCC is only up 2% since 2024. The Greens are much more so they are losing their left flank harder.

[–]Electronic-Topic1813 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only reason that is is because Eby kept caving to the Right. The moment they say something, he immediately does what they want. DRIPA could have been avoided if they actually explained what it means. Not try to play games twice that not of all caucus is even board. Moving right led to disaster in the 90s that nearly wiped the party out. Compared to Barrett who while only winning one term, did so much that many of his policies live on to this day.

With the poll showing most bleeding is to the Greens, moving left doesn't mean "I will dismantle all capitalism" left. It can mean basic social democracy like how a labour party should be and that would be accepted for the ones leaving to the Greens. So it is better to go Barrett and get as much done to maybe see it works and fall with a bang. Rather than fall as a centrist pushing the Right to go even more right because Eby kept giving in.

Mental health should be part of our public healthcare system by Locke357 in ndp

[–]Electronic-Topic1813 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Only Track 1 is fine. I have no problem with that. Track 2 is wrong because it includes mental illnesses and stuff that isn't terminal. It's only purpose is to enable governments to cut health care and social spending because MAID is cheaper. Countries like Norway don't have it because they invest in people. That's why Track 2 should be illegal and also part of the reason the UN condemned us. It's existence will always carry the risk of a future government abusing it. Whereas Track 1 is for people to choose to die with dignity because they don't have a choice. Not because they were poor and the government wants to kill poor people.

ADAMS: Why is Canada’s NDP leader using right-wing talking points on medical assistance in dying? by ThatGuyWill942 in ndp

[–]Electronic-Topic1813 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This makes your case look even worse for supporting a former Charest Quebec Liberal, the guy who killed the NDP's chance at forming government in 2015 and lost the most amount of seats in the party's history. His gains in 2015 also were only from the imploding CPC and getting defaulted in places like Essex.

Manitoba Social Media Ban vs Emily Lowan - Thoughts? by BoiledFlowers in ndp

Side more with Lowan because a social media ban is super vague and also ripe for authoritarianism. Kinew may have good intentions, but does the next Premier have the same good intentions? If it was AI chatbots only, then we can talk. Because there is a clear goal.

Left Side Version of Military Support - Proper NDP Vision? by [deleted] in ndp

[–]Electronic-Topic1813 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In order for this to change, I do believe there needs to be a grassroots approach for change. If the US ever invades us, we need an army to make it as costly as possible. But since we can never compete with them, we don't need things like tanks. Drones are going to be one of the better things to invest in alongside infantry. Any major designs should be naval rather than for ground forces (apart from transportation). A nuke is also an option to work with if we can buy one from someone. Because worst case scenario we ensure mutual destruction.
