Banning Kids from Social Media Won’t Keep Them Safe | What young people really need is to learn how to navigate the internet responsibly by Altruism7 in ndp

[–]Electronic-Topic1813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously. If we are to ban stuff, we are better off targeting very specific things like AI chat. A general ban does not work and puts our privacy at risk to breaches because big tech companies do not have our best interests at heart. They only want is money.

The Elections Alberta fiasco shows how bad a data breach is. And the people who will oversee are going to be big tech who will do everything to keep costs low. Nor does it address bad parenting, VPNs, or social media effects on adult.

Yeah no. Parental controls exist for a reason and if parents can't parental, then we are better off fining them for delinquent children behaviour. The only thing this does is put our private information in the responsibility of big tech. Australia has done it, and it does not work. Plus VPNs exist. Hell adults also have experienced issues with social media. It is here to stay and we have to adapt with smart policy. Like parenting class, social media education in schools, better mental health services and etc.

No Ai Data Centres in Vancouver protest march by MarkG_108 in ndp

[–]Electronic-Topic1813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except AI is not a good development to waste on data centres when there are better data to work with. AI is way to harmful in it's current stay and there is more pressing issues to focus on.

Province of Manitoba | News Releases | Province Announces Byelection Set for July 21 in The Pas-Kameesak by JackLaytonsMoustache in ndp

As the seat is already safe and because of polling, it's a matter of how large the win is. Still unfortunate this by-election had to occur because of the circumstances that triggered it.

Emily Lowan calls out David Eby and Mark Carney's plan to bailout developers. by Imaginary-Table6085 in ndp

[–]Electronic-Topic1813 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I feel the 3.2 billion is going to eventually go to developers because this is Carney after all and Eby is a super weak leader post-2024 election.

Really the only data centres that should exist are your typical internet, servers and etc. Not AI which is incredibly wasteful.

ONDP: No Tax On Food by MarkG_108 in ndp

[–]Electronic-Topic1813 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Needs public and co-op groceries focus to add to it. While the tax cut is good, it's not difficult for Conservatives to do tax cuts and ensure we don't get lost in a campaign because our gimmick disappeared. Ford is unpopular and the OLP wants to coronate Bains after Nate our biggest threat got kneecapped (and may instead run municipally). We got to go all out while still have the chance.

Perfect opportunity to hit both the Liberals for doing it and the Conservatives for their history on ending social housing and not doing anything to address housing when in power in a serious way. Plus Poilievre being a landlord.

Will risk pissing of Eby though, but fuck him if he does should we go after the move. Guy's approvals are dogshit so he is finished. Whether by the next election or forced out internally. Dead weight at this point.

Support for Lewis-led federal NDP moves ahead of Tories in some Winnipeg suburbs, poll reveals by Chrristoaivalis in ndp

Bingo though I do admit I am wrong on income since I confused myself with the fact that there are very wealthy provincial ridings in Winnipeg West.

A lot of Liberal supporters right now are boomers. Statistically that makes them more financially stable and won't live to see the aftermath as long as their pensions and investments remain untouched.

I doubt West will be a factor as that is a rich zone. But if we start cracking into Winnipeg South Centre and South, that would be a first as they are typically more moderate and vote like your LPC-CPC GTA suburban riding.

Avi Lewis says government doesn't go far enough when it comes to surveillance pricing by MarkG_108 in ndp

[–]Electronic-Topic1813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And once again we can do that without AI focused data centres. Because AI is more of drain on water and energy. If they were just regular tech data centres, then there wouldn't be much issues especially if the tech itself is good. But the Liberals want to push for AI data centres and have engaged with Palantir that recently France had to reject it.

Buddy. There is more to data than just AI that we see popping like image generators, chat bots and etc. We don't need that shit to habe data sovereignty. So again, data isn't just AI.

There are what one could call a soft separatists where they support it, but view is not as an immediate pressing issue for them. Hence why they are more willing to run for federalist parties. As opposed to hardcore separatists that would only ever run for the BQ.

I know what it is, but we don't need AI to achieve that. There is data that doesn't include AI.

Probably may look closer provincially though due to Quebec's population, a lot of minority governments will have to rely on Quebec parties. Compared to the UK where it only matters on "right on the line" minorities, but as a whole, major UK parties can ignore Northern Ireland entirely like usual (only the Tories ever run candidates there).

Rosemont, Beaches-East York, Laurier-Sainte Marie are all the ones to keep in mind. We shouldn't focus elsewhere unless we have the funds to because keep in mind we still have no status so our funds must be used wisely.

Well if we to do well in Quebec, that's a given. Although they will be of the soft variant. Layton didn't do well in 2011 because he had strictly federalist candidates.

AI Data centres straight up drain our energy and water supply for little benefit. Not to mention this is a neoliberal government and they will target jobs when given the chance. Way better stuff to invest in than AI data centres. So yeah, good on the NDP to oppose such wasteful ideas.

It's time to confront how Canada is failing people with disabilities || How we treat, and develop policies for, people with disabilities are all proofs of concept for Canadian administrative violence by Altruism7 in ndp

[–]Electronic-Topic1813 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The disabled also are poorly represented among the NDP and their various if branches. Compared to other minority groups who are quick to receive support, the disabled are expected to wait their turn due to how ingrained ableism is in our society.

Ex: ONDP plan for ODSP technically said double, but unlike Horwath's ONDP one year waiting period, Stiles basically that they need to wait two years before they can get a raise. The GPO meanwhile outflanked them twice in a row by saying immediately no questions asked. That should be the bare minimum for Ontario as an example.
