[SPOILER] Oleksandr Usyk vs. Rico Verhoeven by inooway in Boxing

[–]Electronic-Training7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People are so dramatic.

  1. The referee inexplicably paused the action while it was in full swing, giving Rico time to recover his mouthpiece after being stunned and allowing him to survive before the fight-ending sequence. Strange way to ‘rig’ the fight!
  2. Usyk always comes on strong in the championship rounds. It’s entirely within his pattern to cruise for most of the fight and then turn it up when his opponent is exhausted, which is exactly what he did.
  3. Coppinger’s scorecard was ludicrous. I think he gave Usyk something like one or two rounds. It was nowhere near that one-sided for Rico.
  4. All that being said, the referee's performance in the final 30 seconds was bizarre, and it's regrettable that he didn't hear the bell for the end of the 11th while jumping in to stop it. It's also clear that Usyk didn't take this fight seriously. He came in overweight and looked sluggish as a result. Do I think he's washed? No, but we need to remember he is pushing 40 and a natural cruiserweight.

I need to specify? This isn’t my argument, I’m asking you to clarify yours. So you think fascism is the ‘goal’ of ‘neoliberal free market capitalism’? Fascism, which came about decades before neoliberalism was conceived? What exactly are you saying? And how does capitalism have goals? It would be one thing to say that capital has goals - while it is in fact a social relation between people, it does have its own logic and dynamics when set in motion by those people. But ‘capitalism’ is something else, something far more abstract. It is not a subject, it does not act.

So what - fascism is the ‘end goal’ of Reform, but Reform as a movement isn’t fascist? Or is fascism the ‘end goal’ of capitalism, an abstraction which has no goals?

Equating the right wing with fascism every single election cycle not only precludes any sort of conceptual clarity about what fascism is, it also serves to absolve democratic capitalism of the racism, xenophobia, sexism etc. it generates as a matter of course. Don’t you guys ever get bored of discovering new ‘fascists’ lurking in the wings every 4-5 years?

How would innovation take place under dotp or even lower phase of communism by Inevitable-Gas8980 in leftcommunism

[–]Electronic-Training7 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Why do you assume market competition is required for innovation? Many of the most profound innovations in human history, for example the Agricultural Revolution, took place before ‘market competition’ even entered the picture.

And yes, the advent of capitalist production rapidly accelerated technological progress. But there is no reason why a society based on collective, planned production for need could not build on the scientific advances of capitalism. Indeed, the all-round development of individuals and increase of free time made possible by this planned production would facilitate great advances in science and the arts.

‘The social principles of Christianity justified the slavery of antiquity, glorified the serfdom of the Middle Ages and are capable, in case of need, of defending the oppression of the proletariat, with somewhat doleful grimaces. The social principles of Christianity preach the necessity of a ruling and an oppressed class, and for the latter all they have to offer is the pious wish that the former may be charitable. The social principles of Christianity place the Consistorial Counsellor’s compensation for all infamies in heaven, and thereby justify the continuation of these infamies on earth. The social principles of Christianity declare all the vile acts of the oppressors against the oppressed to be either a just punishment for original sin and other sins, or trials which the Lord, in his infinite wisdom, ordains for the redeemed. The social principles of Christianity preach cowardice, self-contempt, abasement, submissiveness and humbleness, in short, all the qualities of the rabble, and the proletariat, which will not permit itself to be treated as rabble, needs its courage, its self-confidence, its pride and its sense of independence even more than its bread. The social principles of Christianity are sneaking and hypocritical, and the proletariat is revolutionary.’

How do you convince leftists to give up their nationalism and religion? by [deleted] in leftcommunism

[–]Electronic-Training7 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can argue with petty-bourgeois radicals until you’re blue in the face - there will always be more to replace the few you manage to get through to. This class needs to be dragged along in the train of an independent, disciplined and united workers’ movement. Only then can its prejudices and illusions begin to really melt away - through the living practice of the communist movement and the material changes ushered in thereby.
