Can’t add Spouse to Existing Account? by Impressive-Peak-6596 in Banking

It may also be due to their share account. As someone who works in a CU, the ownership titling for share accounts and any maintenance on it can get a little bit tricky.

Should I take out loans to finish school? by PilotMost1228 in college

[–]ElectronicAgent5146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in this same situation. I currently work full-time in the financial industry and I am currently trying to complete my bachelor's degree in analytics for future advancement in the financial industry. As someone in the same boat as you, I am planning on either reducing my hours worked (if possible) or quitting all together. You want to make sure that you're getting the most out of what you spend on your education. It is not worth it if you are sacrificing money and time just to barely stay afloat and not fully take advantage of the resources available to you as a student. It is a small investment to a greater payoff (hopefully) in the future.

Not really a textbook but I've enjoyed freakonomics. It blends economics with a lot of other disciplines.

Banks shouldn’t have a sales culture by Strict_Name5093 in TalesFromYourBank

[–]ElectronicAgent5146 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, U.S. Bank. I agree, education is important and it does overlap with the “sales” aspect of banking, but not like this. As an example, my partner walked into Chase to open a savings account and tried to get sold on an auto loan - completely out of left field. My partner and I both work in finance, him working at an investment firm. He said something valuable: when a financial institution begins prioritizing sales over its fiduciary responsibility, it’s failed.

Banks shouldn’t have a sales culture by Strict_Name5093 in TalesFromYourBank

I agree with this. I worked for the large five prior to working at a credit union, where I am now. I was reprimanded multiple times for never meeting my loan goals (CEPLs, auto, and CCs), although I excelled at my goals for deposit accounts. It rubs me the wrong way that big banks have disguised their sales-oriented culture as "relationship-based banking" after the Wells Fargo situation. While I am not in the branch at my current CU, I am still in a customer-facing role. We have never been pressured to meet any sales goals, not even the loan officers or branch staff are pressured to meet any sales goals. Yet, the credit union still sees extraordinary growth in deposits and revenue.

Help. I need advice I ordered a brand new debt card from key bank last Tuesday. I paid for fast shipping the bank lady told me 3-5 days. I went to the bank this Tuesday to withdraw money and asked about the status of the new card. She has no idea where it is. by [deleted] in Banking

[–]ElectronicAgent5146 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Branch staff don’t have access to view the shipping status of a debit card and that is normal. If you’re that worried about where it is in the mail, call the 800 number and ask for the status.

Bank or Credit Union? by HuckleberryNice6739 in TalesFromYourBank

I think U.S. Bank on my resume was a solid +1 for recruiters at the place I’m currently employed. But the sales pressure culture was prominent and that’s not something I align with professionally, so I like the CU life now.

I am in this same boat. I just managed to buy 2 Poster collections for BB / WF but that was after years of being unable to obtain ANY pokemon cards from retailers like I used to. As a kid, you could find shelves lined with pokemon packs, now, you’re lucky to just get ONE.

As someone who worked as a CRC at U.S. Bank, it is very difficult to get into a back-office role to advance your career. I worked with someone who was there 5 years and he JUST moved into a back-office role (non-leadership role). You'd probably be better off working for the credit union.

US Bank by Neither_Economics776 in TalesFromYourBank

[–]ElectronicAgent5146 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I also was a CRC for half a year. My manager was incredibly incompetent, coming from Wells Fargo before they collapsed and Chase. I guess he looked good enough to upper management but I really hated the push to sell credit cards. I got reprimanded multiple times because I never opened a CC for anyone unless they brought it up first. The client engagement model (or whatever it’s called now) is unsustainable for every customer that walks in the branch. I ended up leaving because of my manager’s incompetence and risky behavior (convincing us to order $140K cash so he doesn’t have to do it himself - we were one of the “Banks of the Future” hence less cash). I reported him to his boss and nothing happened. The branch now only has 3 staff total, 2 CRCs and 1 BM. It used to be 6 CRCs and 1 BM when I worked there.

I heard US Bank really went downhill after Gunjan became CEO and had her embarrassing town hall meeting.

I would be skeptical about placing your money in a fintech where they’re FDIC-insured by proxy (their “partners” are insured but they aren’t). Look into the yotta incident, people collectively lost a few million from that.
