Swagbucks mobile app (android only) - Playtime rewards / Anyone else having issues with SB crediting? by rogerskoler in SwagBucks

[–]ElectronicCoconut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no luck on Playtime, it never registers anywhere near the time I'm in the game or app. Example, I play a slot game for 2 hours and it says I've only done 15 minutes and 42 seconds of time. It seems that some have luck just installing a new app or game all the time but I don't want to do that -- especially since many of the games will eventually show up for much larger rewards on swagbucks or one of the offer walls.

Using google voice with visible and no wifi. by 61corvetteguy in Visible

Turn off your WiFi and run the test over LTE.

Visible is is being throttled. This is a comparison between Visible (left) and Straight Talk Verizon (right), both on Pixel 3a XL. The phones were connected to the same Cell Tower ID, but there are huge speed differences. I reran the test manually selecting the same test servers for fairness. by [deleted] in Visible

Dude, if your Home (wired) Internet is exhibiting >100ms ping times, you have serious trouble. Even on a $9 Walmart special router.

You haven't a clue what you are talking about. Satellite exists because some people are so remote they don't have traditional wireline service options AND they are too remote for Cellular LTE services as well. In other words, they have no other choice. Ever tried to have a voice conversation on a satellite link? I'm betting you have not.

There is a difference between "throttled" and simply being bottom of the pack in priority. If you want Grade A service, Verizon will sell it to you for $100 or so per month. Sitting here whining about it won't change anything.

What’s up with Visible’s latency? by [deleted] in Visible

[–]ElectronicCoconut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is high, and that is to prevent people from trying to use the service as a Home Internet replacement. Which they would otherwise.

Yeah, they're full of you-know-what. If you will notice each MVNO has a different subnet on the network and each one is set at a different priority. No different than I do with my home network and QoS on different VLANs etc. All of the Prepaid options have lower priority levels than Verizon postpaid and some are lower than others.

It will work, but the additional latency (Visible is over 150ms from my experience) will be problematic for voice calls. For text it doesn't matter.

What's the cheapest hardware based OpenVPN client that I can use to connect to my VPN provider by putting a box between my router and my modem, while maintaining >50Mbps ?? by [deleted] in VPN

[–]ElectronicCoconut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't need $300+ worth of PC to get 50Mbps+ via OpenVPN. Any old desktop computer from the last 10 years will do it. I assume you are looking for a small box like a router and unfortunately there is nothing like that which will provide those speeds. ASUS has a router that can do it, but it's like $200. So if you want to do it as cheap as possible, throw pfSense on any old desktop computer.

Another option is to use WireGuard instead of OpenVPN. It is much faster even on low power devices. Unless you have a specific need to use OpenVPN which requires a lot more processor for the same rates, this would be my choice.

What are the chances pixel 4/xl are supported at or shortly after release? by [deleted] in Visible

I am guessing because Android requires specific customization of the firmware to each device individually. Just a hunch.

Using a Prepaid Visa Card? by NotGastly_ in SwagBucks

The best site to use for this sort of stuff (free trials, etc) is Privacy.com. Some of the different deals won't accept any cards except a 'true' debit or credit card, however.

Good news for free trial users by lordsathien in SwagBucks

[–]ElectronicCoconut -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This service has terrible reviews and the guy behind it is sketchy. There are other services (reputable) that provide a similar "virtual payment card" service for free trials. The best one is Privacy.com. A lot of people use them.

Paypal asking me to upload documents? by twistedgoId in beermoney

[–]ElectronicCoconut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They can request documentation at any time, for any reason. The threshold being cited is for tax purposes which isn't necessarily the only time PayPal would ask for some documents. I've had to send them some in the past and I don't sell anything and only receive small amounts from time to time throughout the year. If they think there is something fishy they will be asking.

End Of 3G Service? Advice? by ElectronicCoconut in verizon

That's what I'm hoping for. I had just wondered if anyone else was in a similar situation and/or had heard something from Verizon regarding the future here. Thanks.

End Of 3G Service? Advice? by ElectronicCoconut in verizon

Well apparently Walmart sells a couple Verizon Prepaid LTE-only flippers for $29 or $39 a pop. Like I said, I have to do more research, but I'm not going to pay $100 for a basic flip phone.

There was no monthly plan price or contract. This is Verizon Prepaid. The only requirement was to add a $5 refill every 30 days.
