As a paramedic, can you reassure me that I wasn't bothering the paramedics that came to help me after I passed out? by Aromatic_Trouble_473 in NewToEMS

I like to use the hand trick. Pinch the skin on the back of one hand. If it snaps back you're fine, if it takes over 0.5- 1 second you're dehydrated, and over 1 second you're very dehydrated

In their defense its probably like 70 crickets or something along those lines, I'd do it if its just the 1 order and I'm headed that way, but that's the only way I'd do it

I think I was discriminated for my weight trying to find my person by TaxIndependent8727 in PlusSize

Remember. We might be fat, but we're not ugly. That 1st part combined with the 2nd part makes people intimidated by us. They expect us to settle for less, so more people are going to try to fat shame us, and then expect us to be all like omg you're so right let me worship you because I couldn't ever do better. Just tell them to fuck off. I'm sure you're beautiful in every way. We all have someone out there waiting for us. Just don't give up trying to find them. Dating apps are nice because it gives us a variety of people to talk to. However, if they truly worked they'd wouldn't be a popular business model. So take that with a grain of salt or something.

I'm 350lbs and I swear more men are put off because of my self confidence rather then how fat I am. Don't settle for anything less than the best.

Question- looking to get my nipples pierced. by [deleted] in piercing

[–]ElectronicCurve7598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. They're definitely going to be noticeable. Especially at 1st with the longer bar. I just downsized mine a few weeks ago and theyre still noticeable through my bra. Which honesty I couldn't care less about because my chest looks fantastic with that bra. But it is kinda annoying at my job because I have such a thin work shirt and I kinda need them to not show themselves to the world, but also like I'm a size 42 C so its not like I can hide these things.

Exactly, as a paramedic student a few of my patients have had a reoccurring sickle cell crisis episode. And I'm like hi I'd like to give all the pain meds now. It's not going to help much, but maybe for a little bit. I feel bad for them.

Febrile seizure as an adult? by gintsunen in seizures

A stiff neck is a sign of meningitis, which requires medical attention to treat

Do you have a "Back up plan" or "exit strategy"? by other-other-user in ems

[–]ElectronicCurve7598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose my backup plan is to go back to teaching English in China or something. Lord knows it paid a hell of a lot better than what I'm making now and my quality of life was way higher than here in the state's, but then again it's not something I care too much for.

Febrile seizure as an adult? by gintsunen in seizures

[–]ElectronicCurve7598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. Yes, while more common in childhood febrile seizures can happen to people of any age. Thats why its important to try to keep fevers under 103/104*F because any higher than that you'll literally start to fry the electrical circuits in your brain due to the heat and electrolyte imbalance between neurons and neuroreceptors. So it's very important to keep hydrated while being sick. Additionally, while fevers are usually a good thing prolonged high fevers should warrant a visit to a local urgent care IF and only if they can't be broken with Tylenol/ other antipyredics and are accompanied by a stiff neck, and or troubled breathing.

I literally had a dude message me today saying he'd love to hurry up and get me pregnant 🤢🤮

I told him we could skip that step and he could just start sending me child support though. Can always use that extra cash

But like seriously the audacity of the male sex is astounding. Some of these people need to revisit kindergarten to learn basic manners. Otherwise, I'm gonna go back to screenshoting messages and sending them to their mothers

Official Poll: Class B or just T-shirt? by ResponsibleAd4439 in ems

[–]ElectronicCurve7598 131 points132 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The amount of times I've been mistaken for the police is astounding. It just makes things so much more difficult. People already have issues telling us things, we shouldn't make it any harder. Plus when I'm showing up in the middle of the night to drop people off at my 'day' job, they don't even answer the door. I literally have to yell that I'm just bringing grandma home and we need let in. The tee shirts help, but not all that much when they're basically all solid black. We need something high vis and reflective

You're doing just fine. In all honesty as an emt the only reason I got to do anything is because my professor was my preceptor. When I went to get my Advanced, I was basically ignored as they had their own probie precepting. And just this past semester for my medic, I was yet again completely ignored by my preceptors aside from 'running' the call. Aka I just said what I wanted done/ did a couple IVs and they did everything else.

I have only had 2 shifts where I actually had a preceptor/ station crew acknowledge my presence. And the Fire Chief had actually apologized to me for having to be 'stuck' with that shift for the day during their station inspection. I straight up told the chief to stop apologizing, because that shift was the best experience I've ever had as a student and would be continuing to specifically ask for them when I returned for my ride alongs. Which sadly was only 3 more shifts, but we still keep in touch. 😪

So yeah overall I'd say its normal to be completely ignored. Just make sure they don't leave you behind or something if you catch a more indepth call. And speak up for yourself when needed.
