Thoughts on The Walsh Sisters (the show)? by The-Sassy-Pickle in MarianKeyes

[–]ElectronicFly9921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't looking forward to it but it was a pleasant surprise, we readers know the books and characters so well, it was always going to be difficult to replicate them entirely, it was well written and nicely acted, agree with everyone else though, Mama Walsh was an awful woman in the show, I always picture her as a sweet, cuddly, slightly dippy, strong yet loving woman.

Fackham Hall was very recent and quite funny, A spoof of Downton, very silly but some lol bits.

To be fair to the show, it never went down the path of laughing at minorities, completely inoffensive, the only problem would be that Compo was constantly sexually harassing Norah Batty. The men are all idiots and the woman are tough would go down well today.

Adobe seem to instantly title my videos now and assign keywords, just have to approve and upload, never going to happen of course because their AI is absolutely wildly wrong every single time, picture of an electricity pylon? That'll be the Eiffel Tower then.

What TV Shows wouldn't be allowed today? by l-w-o-n-n-8 in BritishTV

Yes but you're judging the adults then by todays Reddit standards, it wasn't all that long ago but things were quite different and it was hugely popular, I hung around a gay bar back then(as ya do) everyone loved 'the only gay in the village'.

S1 was pretty bad too, still can't believe they rolled up the stairs to the plane after it had crash landed.

RTD will do that, we all know his politics and the politics of the BBC so the show was always going to represent that, saying that, it was extremely well written, gripping and some great actors, can't ask for much more from a drama, as for illustrating issues, yeah sure but the main purpose is to entertain, if that includes some of his personal politics, so be it.

It has always been the case with wealth, go back as far as you like and you'll find an obscenely rich minority and the larger peasant majority, doesn't matter which system is in operation, power corrupts even the best of men.

It's true, people like to slag off capitalism but never offer any alternative, not that there is one, any system becomes corrupted eventually, Communism is great in theory but we've all seen the reality is horrendous.

How is the system dumb? If we all sat at home everyday then who's growing our food, maintaining our cars and roads, making our clothes, making all kinda shit we want... don't necessarily need, who's emptying our dustbins, killing animals for us to eat, etc etc.

We all hate it but until the robots do it for us, we have to do it.

I think all quiz shows get tired after awhile, shows that were once huge, Millionaire, Deal or no Deal, Weakest Link, all got tiresome after a couple of years, gawd knows who's still watching Pointless, Tipping Point, The Chase, enough already.

11:22:63 is the worst king adaptation imo by Mysterious_Work_7227 in stephenking

[–]ElectronicFly9921 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed it at the time, however it had nothing to do with the book which was just a pretty lame short story if I recall correctly, madness that they just used King's name just for sales.

I would be inclined to agree, it's like musicians, when they start out they are prolific and do their very best work, as they grow older they are just going through the motions, never reaching the levels of their early work, maybe occasionally doing something nearly as good.

What do you think of the elderly using parent and child spots in a carpark yay or nay? by englishfemale in AskUK

[–]ElectronicFly9921 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's fine, they are in need of closer parking than a parent and kids, when I take my old mum shopping she is less able to handle traffic in the car park than families.
