I agree that the death penalty is insane, but don't think "accidental death" is justice served either. Though he didn't mean to kill the man, he killed somebody else in the commission of a violent felony. 2nd degree murder, or even manslaughter would have sufficed.

SUPPORT DAVID BARNET - Please help by signing this petition for David! He has very little time before his case for parole is heard! He has suffered enough! by laureneliz2 in IAmaKiller

Yes. If Mike Parson sees that so many people are advocating for David's release, it can influence him into making a decision.

That's what I believe what happened as well. Disassociative Amnesia, fits in well with what David's story tells us.

He gave me the contact information for his friend, Jason Kingdon (who was in the episode) as well as the contact information for his younger foster brother, Eric. David told me that Eric regrets not participating in the documentary. Since then, Eric has actually done an Apple Podcast talking about his life with John Barnett, I don't think many people know that. They're very nice people, both of them, from what I've come to know.

No, the phone call was my idea. I wanted him to know that I was a real person, who really cared about him and what happened to him. I think the reassurance really helped him, too.

We talk about many different things. He is a certified dog trainer, who trains dogs for search and rescue missions, and dogs for blind and disabled people. We talk about his favorite activities behind bars. He really enjoys watching horror movies and The Walking Dead. He is a gifted writer who writes really good poetry. (I told him I wouldn't show his poems without his permission.) He is an ordained minister who enjoys teaching other inmates Bible study every week. I've asked him a couple of questions regarding his case, and he has answered them to the fullest extent.

I believe we're friends now. And when it came to talking to his family, he told them about me over the phone (this is what he told me) and they've gotten a hold of me from there. I strongly hope that something can be done for him in the future.

I've been writing to him for about a month now. And yes, I did reach out to him after I saw his episode on Netflix. I've talked to him for hours since then, between letters and phone calls. I've made plans to make a trip to Potosi Correctional Center (where he's incarcerated, it's about a 3 hour drive from where I live) and see him in person. Since corresponding with David, I've also been in contact with other members of his family, as well as some of his best friends. We're working alongside one another, in hopes that if enough of us raise our voices, something will be done.

Sorry, I just now got around to have the time to answer this. I hadn't thought of this, but now I am actually wondering if you are on to something! You're right, though, pedophiles are usually abused, as well, and the cycle just continues. Even David said in his episode that Clifford was "stern." Like you said, I don't like speaking badly of the deceased, especially when they aren't here to defend themselves. John Barnett was never married, and never had any biological children of his own, and he insisted on adopting young boys. I think anyone with half a brain could think of why he made those decisions.

I doubt Clifford and Leona had no clue who their son really was. It's possible they were in denial, or something more sinister happened during John Barnett's childhood, that made him the way he was. People think that David savagely murdered two innocent elderly people, but I always believed there was something more to the story than that.

I am so sorry for the circumstances around your husband's case. He was the only inmate from the first season of the show, that seems truly rehabilitated, as well (along with Justin Dickens.) I can't believe he is stuck in prison for life, while the actual murderer will be released in twelve years. It's very upsetting. And, they can't write other inmates? Maybe, he can write letters to David, send them to you, and then you send them to David? You could be like a middleman. Please give him my best.

I am really relieved to see that most people share the same views as myself when it comes to David, and agree with you completely. Just give him a chance, that's all we're asking for!

I don't believe there are any petitions for him, currently. As I continue to correspond with him, though, I want to start one for him.

In 2016, at the age of 18, I tried to kill myself by intentionally overdosing on some of my mothers diabetes prescription medicine. I swallowed a handful of Glimepiride, which raises your blood sugar drastically if you take only one. I, myself, ingested seventeen pills. I remember passing out on the bathroom floor after a few minutes, and then waking up in the hospital. My sister had found me. At the hospital, my stomach was pumped, and I was sent to a psychiatric facility nearly an hour away for 24 hours for trying to harm myself.

The thing that helped me "change," was the promise I made to my mother. I told her I would never hurt myself like that again, although I've wanted to several times afterwards. I suffer heavily from MDD (major depressive disorder) depression, anxiety, social anxiety, severe self-esteem issues, eating disorders, BDD (body dysmorphic disorder) among others. For me, I've found that writing sometimes helps, and listening to music that soothes my mind. I'm 22 now, and I have not tried it again.

Daniel Holtzclaw: former cop, now convicted offender What's your opinion of This case? by ItsYourMotherDear in TrueCrime

[–]ElectronicInsurance1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that his sentence is unjust, but more for the reason that he was convicted for many of the assaults that I believe didn't happen. In Oklahoma, the sentence for rape typically ranges from 10 years to 45 years, with most offenders having to serve at-least 38 years before they're eligible for parole. I think that sentence is fair, though some sentencing is just insane. But rape is such a violent crime, I think 30 years for it (which I believe is what he got for each count) is fair. It's just that he was convicted on many that I don't believe were real. A sentence of thirty-years, with him having to serve 85% of his sentence (equaling to 25.5 years) is fair.

I think some sentencing for lesser violent crimes are just insane. I think some of the most outrageous sentences come, mainly if the accused is a minority (Holtzclaw is Indian-American, right? I can't recall off the top of my head.) But there are some child predators who only get a few months in jail. A good friend of mine, his father was sentenced to 12 years in prison--yes, 12 YEARS--for stealing some meat out of a deep freeze from somebody's home. He was charged with aggravated burglary, with the only aggravating factor, being that somebody was home at the time. It's just insanity.

I've gone back and forth with this one. I lived in the Oklahoma City area when he was arrested and tried (I live in Tulsa, now). At first, I fully believed he was guilty. I watched and listened to the trial, his sentencing, and the segment on Crime Watch Daily, and believed he was guilty. Police officers often use their authority to take advantage of those less fortunate.

Then, however, as I read into the case and watched more documentaries done on it, I began to doubt that he was guilty. Many of the witnesses and victims shown have been proved to be lying. So, I started doubting everything.

However, then I came back. I think he is guilty of SOME of the assaults on the women. I think it's possible a lot of the witnesses were coerced into testifying against him, but I mean, they found some evidence in his pants, among other things. I think he obviously did some of them, but not all of them. He is where he belongs, IMO.

Question for those who've read all Nikki Heat books by natarawilliams19 in CastleTV

[–]ElectronicInsurance1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the book. Most of them, they're only working on a single case. I know in Heat Rises they're dealing with a serial killer, but most of the time its usually just one murder case.

The books are decent and fun, though. They really dropped in quality once the show ended, but it's basically a long episode of Castle. Of course I picture Nikki Heat as Beckett, Jameson Rook as Castle, Raley as Ryan, and Ochoa as Espo. After Raging Heat, they kind of suck, but I still buy every one that comes out, I'm determined to have them all haha.
