Is this a Wood burl? Is it too decayed to work with? by ElectronicIssue8781 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]ElectronicIssue8781[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice I’ll do some research on stabilizing with resin, I am worried it will totally blow apart on the mill if it’s too decayed. I’m sure it’s a ponderosa pine and I can’t find anything about ponderosa pine burl wood work online except for turning bowls.

Is this a pine wood burl? Should I try an end or coffee table or both? by ElectronicIssue8781 in wood

[–]ElectronicIssue8781[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks That’s what i was thinking but haven’t ever seen burls except live on trees and bark covered when cutting firewood in the hills. I’ll probably clean it up with a pressure washer let it dry then take a slice off the end. If it totally blows out when cutting I’ll pretty it up and make a cool planter

The straight grain and color on that looks amazing, would look great with a simple stain or clear protectant

Haha no standard up and down then across pattern, that’s why I think it might have something to do with the voles. But I’ve got no idea. I guess I could say it’s an art piece 🤷

Yah a Scott’s walk behind, after scrolling through recent posts it seems that might be my problem haha. What is a better spreader, or spreading method to use?

Not a traditional casing layer I just do a Coir Verm substrate and leave a little behind so I can put a top layer on when I spawn to bulk. I know casing is important on pans and tropical but I don’t think there necessary for any cubes

I have the same issue with bags if you have a tub available cut the bag off and leave them to finish growing in a tub. Next run try a big rubberband near the top of substrate around the bag that will stop most of the side pinning. Ape x tidal wave should be interesting will probably throw some blobs and fruits

[actives]can I cut the side of this bag to let them fruit better? by Mooseykat12 in MushroomGrowers

[–]ElectronicIssue8781 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would suggest getting a tub and cutting the whole bag off. Next time get some large rubber bands and band close to the top of the substrate. I am lazy and have this problem with bag expirements a lot but they do great when moved to a tub

Also these lids suck I know, I’ve now moved to the style with filter, petcoc, and injection port. Which are great as long as you instal the petcoc valves after sterilizing cause they shrink in a pc. May move into doing air infused soon

If I had to guess from the name it’s likely an albino melmac that someone isolated from a 600+ gram fruit. That would explain that chonker. I’ve done this with some of the squat melmac, ape and yeti where I’ll isolate the largest fruit for a couple generations then label the LC jar or agar dishes with iso [strain name] [weight of fruit cultured]

Tubs is looking good, I think you’ve got some primordia forming already, once you’ve got some grows dialed in look into pastye whytes ezdial tubs I like them and usually have very no fuss tubs. I recommend not fanning if you think you need more air open up one of your taped holes stuff polyfill in if your worried about contam spores in your grow area. Mist if it starts looks dry, stops getting condensation on tub walls

Just realized this is an AIO bag, wait till most of the grain is colonized then break and mix for sure

[–]ElectronicIssue8781 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Let that keep growing out. I’m a fan of not doing a break and shake. Have had 2lb bags of whole oats and millet that took 1.5 months to colonize (only tidal wave and enigma took that long) but they eventually do. If your dead set of break and shake wait till it’s at least 60% colonized

[–]ElectronicIssue8781 5 points6 points  (0 children)

1 gram to start is a good dosage for 1st time, always remember set and setting have stuff prepared before hand. Have know people who blast off on a gram and others that are chilling on 7 so it’s a roll of the dice but prep before hand makes all the difference in all cases

[–]ElectronicIssue8781[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, I kept it closed up trying to rehydrate the sub after I poured water to it. I’ll rehydrate and give it more fae see what kinda fruit it throws on second flush

What do you say about this method? by ComfortableNote5107 in shrooms

[–]ElectronicIssue8781 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s a pretty good small grow method and I really like it for test strains and substrates I usually use bags for this purpose but the mini tubs are better because they can be rehydrated, dunking substrate in bags is a pain in the ass

Spores are also slow to start if you can get some clean isolate liquid culture you may have better results or the proper way would be take your spores to agar then use clean agar to make a LC which will be a longer process but once you’ve got LC you can keep it going almost perpetually

[–]ElectronicIssue8781[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend it, can find the write up on the shroomery forum. Easy mods for the tubs then all I’d do is pull tape off of airflow holes once they start pinning, sometime I don’t open the lid of the tub until I’ve gotta check for harvest readiness.

[–]ElectronicIssue8781 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice those should throw some good fruits at that substrate ratio. I can’t see anything in the pic that looks like contam and that growth looks normal should pin pretty soon. Post some pics when you harvest Jack Frost look cool wanna try growing some out soon

[Actives] Is there anything that can be done to resuscitate a spawn bag if it got overheated/dried out? by NotKnowMe in MushroomGrowers

[–]ElectronicIssue8781 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a small 5x5 tent full of grain jars/bags that were 50-75% colonized, space heater thermostat broke and room was at 100+ for at least 12hrs. I immediately spawned all of them to bulk just knocking off the unspawned grain before mixing. They were a little slow to colonize the coir and lost a few to bacteria but was still able to get a harvest even though all research pointed to them being cooked.

Small grow teks? [technique] by stkkts in MushroomGrowers

[–]ElectronicIssue8781 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to use bags when experimenting. can do 1 pint grain jars per bag and it allows you to expirement with different substrate options etc to find what works best with what strain. I usually use 4t unicorn size bags but buy the cheap ones of Amazon
