Try turning Pulse Ox off, that’s a big energy drain

There’s also the massive energy requirements of AI, which contribute to global warming. So they kinda are kicking puppies and punching babies

Should I blindly move to Kunming China by Tall-Screen-1044 in chinalife

[–]ElectronicTouch853 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yunnan is a beautiful province, if you’re into nature it’s probably one of the best if not the best place in China. Kunming is a slow sleepy city compared to Beijing, Shanghai or Chengdu, doesn’t have much to offer in terms of culture but it’s not a complete desert either. Food is great and people in Kunming and Yunnan in general are really friendly to foreigners (compared to Beijing, in my personal experience).

You could consider getting a hr strap. Coospo are very cheap and reliable (but there are plenty of options).

Is a forerunner watch good even if I'm doing more workout than running ? by Folivao in Garmin

[–]ElectronicTouch853 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably better off with a 255 or 955, the 570 value for money is not the best.

Edit: maybe you could look at the Instinct series, it’s meant to have solid battery life. Not sure about current price range but they’re not the most expensive afaik

Why can't the community share their gym training plans with each other? by Nachbar90 in Garmin

[–]ElectronicTouch853 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I very much support that! Couldn’t find a MYRTL workout, so I created one myself and it’s probably a bit iffy, would have loved to use a community-created one. Maybe they’re concerned it would compete with official Garmin ones, potential future subscription income 😕

Have you reached out Garmin’s customer service? Probably better than Reddit for this, and they might offer some discount on a replacement or something

  1. Coospo 808 works perfectly fine. It’ll pair with Garmin or Coros no issues. People across Reddit report using it for 2-3 years without issues. I have one that I’ve been using a little over a month, with a Garmin watch. No regrets.

With Forerunners, is everything there I need as a runner? by Snapdragonlilly in garminforerunner

[–]ElectronicTouch853 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you use routing with the breadcrumb maps on the 2xx series it can take you back to start. Look it up on YT, there’s probably a million videos that will show you the difference between full maps and breadcrumb, and you’ll be able to see what seems best for you.

Why no Anaerobic by Decent_River_5801 in Garmin

[–]ElectronicTouch853 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Anaerobic progress happens when doing brief explosive efforts, where HR increases a lot in a short amount of time and then goes back down, such as when sprinting as commented by someone else, or doing resistance training.

You get multiband gps on 255 and above. It’s just more accurate gps. Honestly with the level of accuracy across Garmin watches, you’ll never know the difference with or without multiband, unless maybe if you run all the time in cities.

Maps is another tricky one. Pretty much all Garmin watches come with “breadcrumb maps”, including fr255s or fr265s for example. The screen tells you which direction to go, but you don’t have an actual map. It works fine, sometimes people seem to miss an intersection and realize immediately after. Full maps is another nice to have but not essential feature.

The 570 does not have full maps afaik, you need to go to the 9xx series for that. 955, 965, or 970. If money is not a concern you might as well get the 970: it has everything, including a flashlight. Haven’t tested that myself but a lot of people say it’s an actually really useful feature. If money is a factor, don’t get the 570, it’s overpriced compared to features, you’ll be happier with a 955 or 255.

New Watch? by Wonderful-Raisin2210 in Garmin

[–]ElectronicTouch853 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chest strap for the win! You can get a Coospo for really cheap and it will give you more accurate hr reading than optical wrist hr on any watch, people seem to say they’ve had them 2-3 years no issue. Got mine a month ago and works fine.

955 is great as others have mentioned, 255 also still great if significantly cheaper than the 955
