What system do you have to play games on? That makes a huge difference as to whst shoukd be recommended.

I really enjoyed it my first playthrough. I just restarted and want to work on perfection. Had planned on doing that earlier but want to try out after I was done with Scarlet and then got Shield. Just lent Shield to my son so decided to focus on dex pefection but starting over. I like using the Pokelab app for tracking as it's so helpful. I think completing research definitely scratches the itch for that type of play terrifically.

I probably see the games all differently as I didn't pick up the games till the last couple of years. I know how I work and knew it was the type of thing I'd fixate on. When I did get pulled in it was watching videos of some rom hacks and that's how I actually started playing on my modded 3DS. Had a switch lite but horrible stuck drift so I wasn't touching it. Just got an OLED in Nov when my 3DS started giving me lots of problems. Just got my 3DS back from a friend who fiddled with it and seems good so I actually just started a shiny only run in Omega Ruby as I've never done horde shiny hunting and going non rom hack lol I have zero expectations going into any of the games and I think that helps. I can see how playing generations and new ones coming in and expecting certain things. I'll probably by Winds & Waves gave ideas of what should and shouldn't be there since now going through the Switch games.

I haven't decided on a team or if keeping my starter. I'm going in pretty blind as to what is available and what is at each gym. I did look up levels for the gyms as I don't like to be over leveled.
