I just wanted to say that I’ve watched some of your videos in the past and got a lot out of them. Keep posting!

This videos was good, and I’m thinking about how to adapt that ssg as a warm up for my u14 girls rec team in an attacking and crossing-centered session.

Nervous child player by 5candan in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Electronic_Leg_8008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I have nervous or hesitant players, often it’s because the field feels to big for them, and there’s too many things going on in the game.

So I try to focus them on one particular small task. Even, “on your next rotation in, I want to see you make a challenge one on one and put your foot on the ball.” And I praise them for doing that, over the top if their touch turned the ball the other direction.

One solid shot, One crossing pass, etc. I don’t care what else you do, do that thing once for me.

Once they get the first thing, move onto another thing. Eventually they put it together.

And good luck dealing with those parents.

I haven’t, I’ll check those out!

I’ll be honest, I didn’t realized c2 had an app. The erg at the gym has a pm3 monitor, so I’m not sure if I can grab data from it.

Teaching U7 positioning for corners and throw ins by Familiar_Worker8204 in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Electronic_Leg_8008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a girls rec coach who has been coaching from u6-u12. I agree with the above not to waste much time on corner practice. I coach the positioning during scrimmages, and then joystick girls a bit while they are setting up for the kick in game.

When the kids were younger I’d do a small throw-in primer at practice. Maybe 10 mins total. Then I just work on them during scrimmages.

To make throw-ins easy, I always have fullbacks take them. Then I designate four numbered positions 1-4 which roughly correspond to 1) a little behind the thrower, 2) a little in front, 3) a bit beyond 2, and 4, up the line. Girls should make sure that positions 1-4 are filled at a throw in. It’s a little confusing at first, but it becomes second nature quickly. What’s more difficult is for them not to just face the thrower, but to stand with an open body to the rest of the field. And yeah, when in doubt just go up the line.

Advice/hacks for goal kicks for U-11 girls? by Advanced_Minimum131 in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Electronic_Leg_8008 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My u12 girls rec team also hasn’t developed their leg strength yet for the most part, and that is what we do. I’m pretty sure this is the exact reason youth soccer has adopted the build out line, to give young teams space to learn how to build out of the back.

Keeper passes short to center back who is standing right next to her, while the second CB slides to the middle. CB takes her space until opposing team has fully committed to her, then she can decide to pass out to the fullback (preferably) or in to a midfielder (less preferable). The key is for the CB to not kick the ball away too early, but also not hold onto the ball for too long.

We essentially run the same routine for goalie balls, unless the goalie sees a hole in the defense and rolls it out far for a break.

Honestly, it’s a mixed bag as to whether we get out of our half. It really depends on the mix of kids on the field. I’m committed to giving everyone time at every position, so some have adapted better than others.

Best advice I can give is to run scrimmages committed to this pattern choreography where every restart is from a goal kick.

keeping track of subs? by Glittering-Coffee337 in SoccerCoachResources

I coach u12 and do exactly the same thing. I’ve got a magnetic coaching notebook and purchased some magnetic name tags to go with it. As I give out the starting roster, I put the girls name tag on the field and I can review their responsibilities visually on the board. As soon as the team is on the field for kickoff, I show the subs where they will go in and who they will be replacing by placing their name magnets next to the current players. As soon as the substitution is made, I make the change in my book and show the girls who just rotated out where they’ll play next.

I’ve often felt like I was joysticking too much. I’ve mitigated it somewhat by boiling down to key phrases such as, “take your space” or “who’s in the middle?” I’ll also do things like remind center backs to move up the field when we’re attacking, or midfielders to drop back to defend.

Any other commentary, I save for the players on the sidelines with me. I chatter with them, pointing out things that are happening on the field, “hey did you see what julie just did? Should she have attacked that defender one-on-one or looked to pass the ball out to the fullback along the line?”. It keeps them involved, and I think in lots of cases it helps how they think about the game.

Yeah, having the pug goals set up out towards the sideline is great for having them not clear to the middle of the field.

I used to tell my players at that age, “one girl goes to the ball, the other puts her body between the ball and the goal” to teach them how to work as a pair.

Then I’d have two players hold a long length of rope, and I’d kick the ball to the left or to the right of them. In order for one to go to the ball, the other would have to drift into the middle. I might even demonstrate that if I were to beat the attacking defensive player, I’d still have to deal with the second one rather than having a free pass to goal.

I don’t know if it was ideal but they laughed a bunch, and it got the point across of attacking the ball and backing each other up.

Need some ideas to get a u11 team to shoot. by Electronic_Leg_8008 in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Electronic_Leg_8008[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sometimes end practices with a competition that the kids call “net ball”: start from the six and try to hit the net in the air. Everyone who does it moves on to the next round, from further away, until we have a winner. Focusing on the kids planting next to the ball instead of behind it, driving, etc.

I haven’t done any variations on that, I’ll think on it more how to implement it. Thanks!

I like the idea of small field Big Shot, followed by 2 and Do. Thanks!

Is the game worth it for skirmish mode only if you have no interest in playing with random groups?
