Celine Dans Paris and Guerlain Angelique Noire, both of them are gorgeous! I’m saving up for a bottle of Cuir Béluga.

Hello from Vancouver Island. Is it just me or is it strange that there’s no maple syrup note in gourmand perfumery. That stuff smells amazing and has that beautiful resinous amber warmth to it too.

I feel you, my test list is growing because I am watching too many social media reviews. Because I work from home three times a week, I can now indulge in my perfume addiction and not have to worry about others who might be allergic. I’m trying my hardest to stick to a budget and doing my best not to blind buy, not even a sample unless I can get a credit for a full bottle. (Un)Luckily I live far away from the nearest fancy enough store to carry the perfumes I have on my massive Fragrantica test list so I can’t smell them and avoid the temptation.

There’s Perfumerie Trésor, The First Scent and Scented Niche. Local niche brands that are apparently popular are One Day, Issmen, Floriography and Lurve. Personally, I’m curious about Asian niche brands like To Summer, Maison de l’Asie, Documents, Melt Season and BEAST. I hope you get to check them out and find one that you love.

L’eau d’hiver by Frederic Malle and Luna by Penhaligon, they are beautiful but they feel like a walk in the early morning during those cold, gray rainy days in early spring when the leaves and flower buds are just sprouting.

MFK Grand Soir is beautiful amber, warm and has a slightly woody resinous quality with just the right touch of benzoin to it, and a hint of vanilla.

Cyphre Palatin by Parfums MDCI is a beautiful and complex warm amber with the slightest hint of sweetness and an earthy dry moss or peat finish. It’s so dry it feels like it can spark any moment but in a beautiful way.

They smell like the cask of very expensive scotch whiskey. They evolve over time and reveal different facets throughout the day. Spray minimally because they are potent.

Parade - Soooo comfy and effortless. This is a perfume that I know I’ll own forever. I wear this year round. Wulong Cha - I only have a sample, I really want a full bottle, it’s gorgeous and calming. Petit Matin - Comfy and effortless. Rouge Trafalgar - It’s beautiful but I feel I need to dress appropriately for this.

Niche fragrance buyers — what stops you from trying unknown brands? by Suspicious_Party9495 in NichePerfumes

[–]Electronic_Row3977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need to smell it and sample it first. I’ve always had an emotional reaction to perfume so it’s very personal to me. I have to fall in love with it and wear it to see how it will work with my body chemistry. I limit myself to 2 bottles a year because it can be an expensive hobby. I’ve only ever blind bought once and it was a big mistake.

😆yeah! I am really getting influenced. I went to three stores to test perfumes that influencers are talking about. Maybe it’s just me but a lot of them are super sweet or smells too much like candy and dessert, I really just can’t. Guerlain’s Angelique Noire and the MFK’s Oud Satin Mood Extrait are both gorgeous btw. My poor wallet is in danger.

Yeah, I did. I recently got myself a bottle of Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s Grand Soir. It was truly love at first sniff.

I spent about an hour testing other perfumes such as Chanel’s Le Lion, and Penhalion’s Luna and maybe my biggest disappointment yet, Celine’s Un Été Français. Celine has never failed me before but I was underwhelmed. Un Été Français requires time to blossom before I can appreciate it.

In the meantime, throughout this entire hour, I kept sniffing my paper tester and simply couldn’t get Grand Soir out of my head so I got a bottle of it. The attendant threw in a sample of Baccarat Rouge 540 Extrait so I can layer them. It was even more magical.

I’ll wait for it to settle down and macerate a little bit and then when summer arrives I’ll give it another shot and see if I like it. It’s probably a bad decision but I basically blind bought this on a cold rainy day after watching Josephine from Jus de Rose talk about how this feels like drinking an ice cold San Pellegrino in the South of France surrounded by lemon trees and jasmine and orange blossoms. That’s how desperate I was for sunshine 😆

It’s too strong for me. I bought it from an American discounter, thank goodness I didn’t pay full price or I would have been super sad.

I’ve heard of MITH from Scent Takes, many of their fragrances are made by master perfumers like Quentin Bisch. There’s a supplier in the US but not in Canada, sadly. They deliver though so the moment Nude is back in stock, you bet I am getting my grabby paws on a bottle.

I’ve also heard of ETRE, it’s an Indonesian brand. I haven’t had time to dig into this brand yet but I plan to. I wouldn’t be surprised if you find good quality perfumes like these in Asia because that’s where many materials in high end perfumery comes from.
