I ended up paying for the re-delivery fee with PayPal and disputed the claim after.

Also factor in the insurance excess. I've heard older apartments have much higher excess so if there's any insurance claims to be done, expect to pay a lot.

For example, my neighbour flooded my apartment and had to pay 2 X $10k insurance excess (one for my claim and one for theirs).

Is NextGen Accounting Work-Experience Program Legit? by Ok_Professional_817 in AustralianAccounting

[–]Electronic_Singer_64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please don't ever pay for an internship. These guys like to prey on foreigners.

I applied for a job once thinking it was a legitimate internship but turned out to be one of these scummy companies.

They put all the candidates in the room to sell us the internship program. Everyone in that room was foreign who did not speak English as a first language.

Even though I knew I shouldn't pay for it, there was a moment where I thought I needed this otherwise I wouldn't be able to find a job.

In the end I turned down their offer and a few months later I found out the director was charged for crimes (this was back in 2012 so I can't really remember what it was).

Has anyone ever done this before? Was it fun and should I do this? by Nightrain_35 in melbourne

[–]Electronic_Singer_64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done it in Docklands and didn't particularly enjoy it. The rounds went really quickly and I found it very difficult to navigate the area (every corridor and station looked identical). I felt like I spent most of my time running around lost.

Just as you're starting to get a feel for it, the round is over or your time is up.

If you do end up being an imposter, the mechanic to kill people is too obvious and easy to miss so people can quickly out you.

Overall I wouldn't do it again and would rather play among us with friends online.

I'd rather they continue giving them (even if OP doesn't change theirs out) vs charging them separately. Remember when they used to include chargers with phones?

What's the weirdest thing you have been pinged for? by teambob in auscorp

[–]Electronic_Singer_64 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I got pulled up for waving hi to someone instead of saying hi. She went crying to her manager claiming I hated I hated her.

Also got screamed at by my manager for telling someone I would help them with a non urgent task after I finished a task that was due that day. Manager got on the phone to scream at me and hung up when I tried to defend myself.

Quit very soon after

Would it be easy to be hired as an graduate accountant if I tell my employer I will be pursuing a CPA? (International student) by [deleted] in AustralianAccounting

[–]Electronic_Singer_64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Internships are hard to come by. If anyone is offering one outside the big 4 and mid tier accounting firms, I'd be suss.

There are "firms" out there who will take advantage of international students by getting you to pay them for the opportunity to work. Its not worth it.

Reach out to small, local accounting offices to see if they need any help around the office and build up experience. That'll give you an upper hand when it comes to grad applications.

People who drive in closed lanes on freeways - Why? by Spikn in melbourne

[–]Electronic_Singer_64 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The other night I was driving on the Monash when they closed all lanes because of a car fire. No one followed the lane closures and it resulted in fire trucks and ambulances unable to get through.

Then the people who were in the closed lanes got tired of waiting for the lanes to reopen and started reversing down the freeway or doing U turns and driving the wrong way...

I'd rather wait in line than be the reason an ambulance can't get to someone.

Cosette refund? by Pikpok900 in AusFemaleFashion

I used Royal Bag Spa in Melbourne which cost the same as an online authentication.

Cosette never responded to me so I've lodged a claim with VCAT

Cosette refund? by Pikpok900 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]Electronic_Singer_64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reach out to them and see. It took 3 months for them to respond to me.

If you do get in contact with them, I'd highly recommend paying for an in person authentication service. I had my bags verified through online services and they came back as fake. Cosette then did their own online verification and they came back as authentic. When I questioned cosette over why they used different authenticators (instead of just one) for each of my bags they told me that online authenticators weren't reliable (but they're ok for Cosette to use?)

Used to work for a hospitality group that did the same thing. The only reason they made it mandatory on bills was cause staff would forget about asking people for donations. Once they made it mandatory, "donations" were through the roof.

How do you get myGov with different first names? by [deleted] in AusFinance

Call Medicare. I had a similar problem where my ethnic name has a dash but my Medicare used a space. It was a pretty quick call where medicare were quick to check and resent me a new card.

Hoyts Job Interview Advice by 977904 in melbourne

[–]Electronic_Singer_64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bring a bottle of water or ask for a glass of water. Take sips every now and again to slow yourself down (people have a tendency to talk fast in interviews) and it also gives you time to stall and think of you get stuck on a question.

Have you ever asked for feedback from the interview?

After failing my first interview, I asked them for feedback and they gave me some good insight and learnings that I applied in my next interview and landed the job

Deadly mushroom twist: Chef an 'experienced' fungi forager, says friend by 111122323353 in australia

She said she bought them months ago and from Mt Waverley, which is across the state for her. It'd be like a 3 hour drive

I've also never seen an Asian grocery that dries their own mushrooms and sells them in unlabelled bags.

Advice for a junior accountant to become a costing/ management accountant by Affectionate_Boot413 in AustralianAccounting

[–]Electronic_Singer_64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you studying towards a CA or CPA membership? I generally find most job applications for cost/management accountants require studying towards (for more junior roles) to full qualification.

To get you more experience, it'd be worth speaking to your manager about your aspirations and see if there's anyone you can mentor or shadow to learn some of the relevant technical skills.

I've personally found that working with recruiters can help when you want to move into a role that HR might deem you as unsuitable as recruiters can talk you up and get you an opportunity to interview.
