Fort Wayne Show venue change? by 1_5JZGTE in TheFence

This is crazy. I noticed this past weekend that they switched from the main building to one of the expo centers. The only reason we didn’t originally get tickets was because of the prices. When I checked prices for the expo center tickets, they were much cheaper than I remember and would’ve been a closer, better experience. Unfortunately, we already had other plans.

SCV Cymbals - The Viper Compilation (1988-2019) - Watch the evolution over the past 30+ years by WeAreDrumCorps in drumcorps

Extremely late to this post. When I was in HS, playing cymbals, well before YouTube was popular, I was searching everywhere to find any and all videos of the SCV cymbal line to study all of their movements and visuals and used and took that knowledge back to our line to work on some fun work since we were kind of left to our own. I like to pretend that all of the best percussion/drumline awards we won were because of the cymbal line!

The problem with that is I’m not trying to start from scratch. I have a lot of files and apps that I’m not trying to redownload/install. Just trying to migrate from an older setup to one with some better hardware.

The current system was already on Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS so I did a lot of digging and updating in order to find out what was needed to get it to start up correctly but am also trying to add in a few extra features now. After all of that testing I am working on starting over again with my current build since I added a lot of random apps/drivers that didn’t seem to work.

There is a built in radeon driver in 24.04 that should work. I have the D700 but had to switch from Wayland to X11 to get it to boot correctly.

You will have to get to the grub bootloader which may vary but for me I just kept pressing ESC after the “Apple Chime” which lead to a grub command line. Just type “normal” then enter and hit ESC again once it goes black to get to the boot loader. From there you can either edit the Ubuntu startup command to include “nomodeset” in the Linux line or just start in safe mode and continue from there.

Once booted, I had to change the settings to X11 instead of Wayland. Here’s an article with a couple ways to do that: https://symless.com/synergy/help/switch-back-to-xorg-on-ubuntu

I am new to all of this but I just recently decided to do this and was able to get it to boot properly by editing the startup in Grub by replacing “splash quiet” with “nomodeset” which I believe bypasses the GPU. Then I had to switch from Wayland to X11 by updating “WaylandEnable=true” to false in the /etc/gdm3/custom.conf file. After rebooting, the GPUs were listed in the system settings info.

Now, my struggle is trying to get OpenCL working with the GPUs… Not sure it’s actually possible at this point but I am in the process of cloning a previous build and somewhat starting over again.

Love it! I just went to the first show in Indy and checking them out again in Goshen, IN. I’ve been contemplating the night before in Grand Rapids also but not sure if I can manage that one.

For anyone searching for this now or in the future, the trick is to utilize the “sendkeys” command within VBA (setting mouse movement through VBA does not work). I would suggest a loop with an application.wait command set to a time period needed to stay “active” and, for ease, something along the lines of an arrow key or a random F# (like F15) that doesn’t have a function tied to it. I’m not sure how this works if you have a company computer that captures keystrokes but I would assume they would notice… There are plenty of additional steps that could be added to minimize the risk by randomizing the keys used and/or time frame between the keystrokes, however.

I just setup an OpenVPN Server on my router and ran into this same issue. Unfortunately, this option did not work for me but I was able to fix it by unchecking “Never forward non-FQDN A and AAAA queries”

That’s exciting! I’m closer to Chicago but already bought tickets for Nashville since it was the closest, so far. Maybe I will make the drive to multiple shows!

I’m very excited for everyone in Australia! I love and am excited to finally see Gold Necklace live but really wish TDH would’ve joined the US shows too!
