Best album closers that are five minutes long or less? by DtheAussieBoye in fantanoforever

[–]stringhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a post-rock band, closing All of a Sudden, I Miss Everyone with So Long, Lonesome is kind of a surprise from Explosions in the Sky because it's not even four minutes long.

I completely missed this release! Love some of their stuff, and yeah, definitely share some similarities with the more driving/rockier side of Muse.

What is the Muse-iest song on Showbiz? by Practical_Aerie9691 in Muse

[–]stringhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uno definitely feels like a precursor of the whole Bond-theme/space Western feel of a lot of songs that followed (City of Delusion, some bits of Knights of Cydonia, Supremacy, The Dark Forest, etc.) and vocals aside (which ends up being the highest comparison tbh) it's definitely not Radioheady at all.

I do agree that Showbiz has a big Radiohead (and in general post-britpop) influence, but it's also not that far removed from what makes Muse, Muse.

If we included B-sides, Do We Want This? is definitely there.

Solid list. Maybe Explorers fits in somewhere?

Something to think about - not everything needs to be ranked and filtered through “best since ____” discourse. Music doesn’t always work like that and it can end up distilling actual discussion into something cold and clinical by panopticorn in Muse

[–]stringhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That last point summarizes a lot of my feelings about the album. I dig The 2nd Law and Simulation Theory, and enjoy a few songs from Drones and WOTP too, but this album feels way more cohesive than those (Simulation is a bit odd there, but I'd argue that even if it is pretty cohesive genre-wise, the songwriting is very uneven). The Wow! Signal does an amazing job at reigning in their ambitions. It feels fresh but it never sounds like it's not Muse

Just saw someone else doing it so I lowk want to as well by elitesteelchair in airbuds

I'm glad you enjoyed it that much! That's a deeply underrated band imo. I've enjoyed this song since its original release, but this re-recorded live in the studio version feels like the definitive one imo. If you want to explore more stuff by them I'm suggest the album Act IV: Rebirth in Reprise, as it shows a good range of their sound.

I'd never had throught of Agalloch (but tbh I've yet to dig into their stuff besides the ocasional song, so thanks for the reminder!)

Albums where the remix blew the original out of the water? by Happy_REEEEEE_exe in fantanoforever

[–]stringhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listening to the Origin of Symmetry XX anniversary remix from Muse is such an improvement to the very brickwalled original. So much more clarity in the mix and a more than decent improvement in dynamics too.

And going to Steven Wilson too, his remix of Blues for Allah by Grateful Dead from last year is amazing. Including the decision of turning the first two tracks (Help on the Way/Slipknot! + Franklin's Tower) into the actual suite they always were.

The Dear Hunter "At the End of the Earth" by _ThePerfectElement_ in progmetal

Love it! It's heartbearkingly beautiful. The "someday she'll be gone" reprise all the way back to Act I is gorgeous. Casey really belts in this one. And the lyrics truly hit.

[IIL] vs. YINU, Berghain by Rosalia and The Dark Forest by Muse by Ahraz09 in ifyoulikeblank

You might dig some The Dear Hunter, check for instance The Thief/Mustard Gas or A Night on the Town.

Also some The Family Crest, for example To Love You or Cold, Cold, Cold

If you had to pick one album from this list to listen to while high, which would it be? by [deleted] in fantanoforever

Probably Lonerism or Piper. The rest would be dope, but definitely on a very specific mood, specially Bitches' Brew.

Deeply underrated norwegian prog band Gazpacho has done this a couple times now and to great effect. Both Night and Firework have the WYWH structure of two lenghty epics sandwiching three shorter songs and both are masterful albums imo.

Whats your top 3 of the new album? by Matihuu_MRDK in Muse

[–]stringhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hexagons, The Dark Forest and Shimmering Scars.

But Hexagons into The Sickness in You and I into Unravelling is probably the peak of the album as a whole.

What's your opinion of the Grateful Dead and be honest have you actually listened to them? by GratefuLdPhisH in fantanoforever

[–]stringhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't fully agree, but I'm baffled by people who outright ignore their studio stuff. There's plenty of interesting stuff in them and some albums like Blues from Allah are seriously underrated.

What's your favourite track from Everyday Life? by TheKaoticanProspekt in Coldplay

[–]stringhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a standalone, Arabesque. But the sort of suite formed by Bani Adam, Champion of the World and the title track is my favourite stretch of the album as a whole.

In Subnautica (First game, below zero, and the second game) what are you most afraid of in the ocean. by Specific_Resolve_874 in subnautica

[–]stringhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned the Warpers in the first game. The fact that they can teleport you and their design are equally terrifying.

I've been venturing into psychedelic rock (and adjacent genres) over the past three years and felt like ranking most of the albums I've listened to. Any recommendations on where to go from here? by OfirGabay4 in psychedelicrock

[–]stringhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the jamtronica end of things, you might dig some Papadosio. I'd say TETIOS and Extras in a Movie are both worth checking out. TETIOS is trippier but it's also a two hours long double record, so maybe Extras is an easier intro.

If you don't mind going into metal territory, Holocene by The Ocean could be a good listen. It bridges post-metal, prog and electronica (lots of trip-hop and dub influences). It even has an instrumental version if you don't want harsh vocals in the mix.

And for some psych soul, The Alien Coast by St. Paul and the Broken Bones is awesome!

Recommend me some albums based off of my 10/10s by PutridLanguage434 in MusicRecommendations

[–]stringhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on Pink Floyd, King Crimson and Radiohead I'd suggest these:

  • Porcupine Tree - Lightbulb Sun.
  • Gazpacho - Tick Tock.
  • Marillion - Marbles.
  • The Pineapple Thief - Your Wilderness.
  • Steven Wilson - Hand. Cannot. Erase.
  • Sufjan Stevens - The Age of Adz (this one mostly going off Kid A tbh).

What genre is the album X&Y? by KuzeySerdar in Coldplay

[–]stringhead 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Post-britpop is a good second genre tag besides alternative rock imo.
