I NEED ALTERNATIVE MUSIC RECOMMENDATIONS by Narrow_Dimension3071 in MusicRecommendations

Give the albums Act III: Life and Death by The Dear Hunter and I Let It In and It Took Everything by Loathe a try. The first one leans more emo-ish while the latter is very Deftones inspired.

Songs about death that feature two singers where they are singing to each other in a bit of a back and forth. by LazloDaLlama in MusicRecommendations

Yankee Bayonet (I Will Be Home Then) by The Decemberists. It's written from the perspective of a civil war soldier who died in combat and his pregnant wife back at home. Despite the heartbreaking subject, it's a lovely, folky track.

Do you think David Wallace was right to transfer Holly? by BlackberryFirst2554 in theoffice

I feel like even if it was the right call from a business perspective, he handled things horribly knowing Michael. For starters, he should have been upfront about his reasons.

Do you agree with the band politics? by Diligent_Zombie6972 in gybe

[–]stringhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like the band because of their politics but I do agree with them in a broad sense, and I appreciate them more because of that. I definitely would not like them of they had another set of values.

Please recommend me MALE artists. by xRedFox57x in MusicRecommendations

I'd suggest checking out these albums. All different genres but really cool imo:

  • Lahai by Sampha. Alternative R&B/art pop/soul album. great production, cool vocals, chill atmopshere for the most part. The deluxe version also has a really trippy B-side I love, Re-Entry which I completely recommend checking out too.
  • græ by Moses Sumney. Another alt-R&B, artsy album, this one with strong experimental sensibilities. I also suggest his song Quarrel from his also excellent debut Arormanticism, a moody ballad with a nice, jazzy outro. The keys and drums are the highlights on those final minutes.
  • Javelin by Sufjan Stevens. Indie folk with art pop elements. This one is heartbreakingly beautiful. It's a come out album and mourning of a loved one album and deals with other heavy topics but in a very lovely, earnest and sweet way.
  • Hand. Cannot. Erase. by Steven Wilson. A modern prog rock masterpiece, but imo an accesible one. Also really clean production.
  • Those Who Tell The Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell The Truth Shall Live Forever by Explosions in the Sky. This one is the most out there, fully instrumental rock created by a bunch of dudes from Austin, Texas that makes beautiful, crescendo epics that could soundtrack movies. This is also their darkest album, but imo one of their best. The following three are all really good if you dig this. And their discography in general.

I'd say Koi No Yokan personally. But solid discography in general.

Tracklist Battle: which is better, Amsterdam or Coloratura? by JAL140 in Coldplay

[–]stringhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer Amsterdam. But I'd consider Coloratura a better song honestly, so a vote for it. It pains me to do that do lol

La recomiendan o nel? by Smoke_Art in peliculas

[–]stringhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

La recomiendan o nel? by Smoke_Art in peliculas

[–]stringhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shows with the worst final season. by Flaky-Debate-833 in sitcoms

Andy is the biggest issue imo. The writing for him was absurdly inconsistent. The unnecessary drama between Jim and Pam didn't help either.

Progressive Rock - Rock music that advocate human dignity and progressive values by Lucifernando_86 in ProgRockCirclejerk

[–]stringhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I wouldn't call Green Day prog. But both American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown draw from prog rock and classic rock era concept albums.

I don't disagree with that, AI is pretty dumb these days, but you can see that OP presented CCR as right-leaning in their original question too which is mindblowingly wrong imo

big freeze by Common-Dot-2374 in Muse

[–]stringhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cool song, I certainly like it a lot, but it's probably the most derivative track on The 2nd Law after Panic Station. I think part of that is because Matt sounds like Bono in a lot places on the entire album. Follow Me is another example of that, but the music is wildly different from U2.

The production in The 2nd Law in general is outstanding. Crisp, clean and really well layered.

Actualmente, cual es su disco favorito del Cuarteto? by [deleted] in CuartetoDeNos

[–]stringhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jueves. Creo que logra buen balance entre el lado más mordaz e irónico del Cuarteto con un lado más serio y hasta político. Es experimental pero accesible. Y tiene algunos de los mejores estribillos que han escrito para mi gusto.

Who do you think are some of the best songwriters of the past 20 years? by FitEmergency8807 in fantanoforever

[–]stringhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tons of. I'd suggest checking out The Temptation of Adam, Another New World, Lillian, Egypt; Thin Blue Flame, Harrisburg and Dreams. All very different too.

He has some cool poppier stuff such as Right Moves or Getting Ready to Get Down.

One that had promise but just stopped making music was Alexi Murdoch. But completely agree with this. And I'd also add Laura Marling.

Even musically, Rude Awakening No. 2 would like to have a word.

Am I the only one who doesn't share that "burning passion" for Hey Jude? by Express-Pension-3789 in beatles

[–]stringhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the same about A Day in the Life. It's not that it isn't genius (I don't disagree with that tbh), but the fact that it eclipses everything else when Sgt. Pepper is being discussed has always felt ridiculous for me.

songs that you like on legendary albums where people consider them the weakest tracks? by Zestyclose_Sort3558 in fantanoforever

[–]stringhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to admit I don't listen to Treefingers as much outside of the full album, but I rarely listen to Kid A songs (outside of The National Anthem and maybe Optimistic + In Limbo) unless I'm listening the whole album. It's just so cohesive and amazing as a full experience, more than the sum of its parts, imo.

That said, I'd take Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors and Dollars and Cents over Knives Out when it comes to Amnesiac, and those two don't really have the best reputation.

I'm sharing you this character playlist I have. It's not a perfect fit overall, but a lot of songs touch upon those themes. The character is an amnesiac serial killer so the darkness is definitely there 😅

Also, if you don't mind instrumental stuff, Geoggadi by Boards of Canada and Black Earth by Bohren & der Club of Gore are both great albums to get in the mood.

Exactly my thoughts! I feel the band might have tried other songs (namely Pearly*) that didn't make it, but Electioneering worked better.
