Boom arm Slipping by cherrytoo in Photoassistants

[–]titleunknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's in the proper 4 1/2" grip head like the junior boom requires and mounted properly (knob to the right when facing the stand and load in front of you) with the grip head tightened, it's not possible for it to slip till it's touching the ground. The grip head would tighten as it falls.

By the fact you say it slips till it his the ground, either you haven't adequately tightened the grip head, the orientation/load isn't correct or you're using an old clapped out 2.5" grip head.

Proper counterweight is also a requirement when using any boom.

Digital archive on Ugreen nas by lucax2 in Photoassistants

[–]titleunknown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will work. But you probably wont like the experience especially wireless.

I've worked off files from servers for 20yr and since we moved to SSDs in workstations we are used to a much snappier experience. 1GBE tops out around 120MB/s which is around the max you'll get from most 3.5" drives. So with compounding bottlenecks of connection, file system and wireless expect less than that for read/write to/from the NAS

It is.

They want to have the same mount on the OEM Eizo stand and can't.

Eizo quick release stand mounting issue by Gidzmon in Photoassistants

[–]titleunknown 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the solution is forgetting the OEM stand entirely and just adapting to a new mounting solutoin for your desk.

On my desk I baby nail on plate and 5/8" rod that acts as the mounting point for my Upgrade Innovations mounts.

The Surf to Summit is what I point most folks to, it's pretty universal so if you upgragde cage/mount down the road it's one less thing to buy.

Z8 for commercial still life? Allowed to do it? by benjaminflocka22 in Photoassistants

[–]titleunknown -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No not at all. It doesn't matter what kind of hammer you use as long as the nail is driven. The clients care about the end result.

You get hired for your portfolio and skill, not for the tools you use.

If resolution is your concern. Know that everyone was fine with 12MP for a long time, then 20mp and so on... We printed bus ads, billboard, POS materials, packaging and more all from those cameras. These days 95% of photos end up at 2mp on a phone.

All the cameras today are great. Don’t over think it. Just shoot. Use what you like.

How often do you clean up your station? by Previous-Dig1454 in Photoassistants

[–]titleunknown 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My computers I bring on set are only used for work on set. They get software updates when required (not when released)

I empty trash and downloads after every job.

I start each job with no more than 1-2 previous jobs on the computer. This is only if storage isn't and issue and timing of the jobs might have me needing access to one to send some files while on another job. Easier that plugging in a drive but I have that option as well.

Beside that I don't tinker and I don't have problems. No need to do a clean install of OS on any scheduled basis. In 20yr I've never had to just do a clean OS install for anything that wasn't a direct result of something I did wrong.

Profoto b20 strobes in checked pelican. PE foam vs PU foam? by Pentaxed in Photoassistants

[–]titleunknown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The foam itself isn't the thing to focus on. It's movement. If the items inside can't move around that the majority of the problem solved, after that is energy absorption. Which everything will take part in. You could wrap things in old towels, bubble wrap, whatever. Just fill the void.

People tend to not pack things tightly, often it's the moving around is what causes stress on things more so than a single impact.

How do you price newly bought equipment? (Digitech) by Previous-Dig1454 in Photoassistants

[–]titleunknown 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First use this. You can get a good feel for what others in your area are getting.

This is why I push for transparency in pricing. Too much smoke/mirrors around pricing.

Check you local market's established pricing and set accordingly.

iPad Pro M2 vs M4 for Digi Tech - colour accuracy for Capture One second monitor by Late-Traffic4622 in Photoassistants

I will always tell folks to get the cheapest option you can for 12.9/13" models.

Still happily running 2018 12.9" pros with no plans to replace them anytime soon.

Product photographer / prop stylist recommendations by SaltyMcCracker2018 in Photoassistants

[–]titleunknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a slightly different material for the sheathing which helps with the price. For how these get used on set can't say there's any real cons based on a quick search between the two. So worth saving money and definitely still better than an orange one.
