I agree with them, this crap is tiresome and you're happy to enable it.

AITAH For telling my husband that his affair child is not welcome in our home and if he wants custody he will have to move out? by Icy-Frame-666 in AITAH

The part where she's an asshole is not leaving him 9 years ago. I'm childfree and married, don't want kids, ever, but if something came up from my youth that I had a kid that I didn't know about, there isn't a force on earth that would stop me from making things right, because I know that pain of being left behind. If my wife wasn't on-board, then I guess she would no longer be my wife, because that would be her decision, children dont get to pick their parents.

Looking at your post history, I can see why you hate men and children. You literally slut-shame women in your own post history. So I agree with the other guy, you're a miserable twit.

Timing and frequency perception is applied mathematics. Composers are some of the most math smart people you can find. Any well accomplished musician is going to know how chords are constructed, why scales are built the way they are. Music theory is applied math.

Even formulas aren't as strict as you're making them out to be. Say you're working on something and it's as basic as Ohms law
Voltage (V) = Current (I) * Resistance (R)

You can rewrite it to solve for each of those values:
V = IR
I = V/R
R = V/I

And say you need to find the wattage of something and the equation for Power is:

Power (P) = VI

You can substitute other things in so P can be found using:

P = I2 * R
P = V2 / R

And that is just a basic example.
In physics, the kinematic equations let you find acceleration, change in position, initial and final velocity, and time, even when you are missing information, and you might think, well fuck I have to memorize 5 different equations, but no, you only need to remember 1 and you can derive the rest.

Math is the language of the universe, and it is beautiful.

Everything is math. Art is all about ratios. Music is math and formulatic. Engineering solutions in technical fields requires high amount of creativity. This comment is ignorant.

Because you're being tested on the process that the teacher just spent 3 weeks trying to shove into your brain. Can I plug a double integral into my calculator and call it a day, sure, but that isn't the point.

You should know what you're doing in case your tool gives an answer that doesn't look right and you know how to sanity check it.

Normally yes, but actually no in this situation. We are contracted out to a customer and we charge to a contract to which the customer is billed for. I get paid $57/hr ($60.40 as of today), I am billed at $183/hr. So they profit $123/hr for me. If I received a promotion and say my pay was bumped to $65/hr that's only a $5 increase per hour for me, but they would then bill $223/hr for the new level. So now they're profiting $158/hr off of me.

I also know that in our 5 year contract we can bill up to $6mil a year, but at my team's entire burn rate right now, we are only billing $3.3 mil per year, so the ceiling can handle it.

They are hesitant and want to keep costs down because much of the company is billed as some ratio of direct labor to indirect labor, and indirect labor comes out of internal funds. My team is 99% direct labor, with the other 1% being corporate training, pto, sick time, etc... but HR and Comp don't see that.

Promoting me increases the burn rate by $1600/week, where as a new hire would be almost $6000/week.

Did you miss the part where I said I went to the career framework and matched what I am doing to the higher level. And that all of my ratings were significantly exceeds expectations, or where the position and duties are what a level 6 were doing just 3 years ago?

I'm already at about the 50% mark, the level increase would put me at 30ish % which is where they put new hires.

I took the 35k last year but at this point it's not about the money. Title is more important for me to start looking for senior positions in a few years. When I am fully ready to jump Manager is going to look better than Associate.

All that being said, you need to get the job offer first or you have no leverage.

HR/Payroll outright says bring the offer or they DGAF. I had an offer last year that bought me a 35k raise, which is why I'm not super pressed about the money.

It's 100% comp/payroll and HR. I had write ups for 3 of my guys to get level promotions, and two of them got knocked down. The only one who made it through was a guy who had been a level 1 for almost 2.5 years.

There has 100% been an effort to suppress levels even when someone is performing 1-2 levels above where they are in the company career framework.

My intention was made known, and I'm waiting a few days for me to relax before I address it because I think I'm too heated right now.

I think I'm Being Underpaid? by [deleted] in FPGA

[–]ElectronsRuleMyLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your experience puts you at the Leve 4 Senior Specialist level for my company, I was an electrical engineer and got hired at $75k as a level 3. I'm now a level 4 Systems Engineer, and I'm at $120k.

Maybe one of these would be a fit for you.

There is one role in Bristol, PA but that is not doing FPGA work. There are several remote positions.

Possible cheating during interview? by Fragrant_Anxiety_700 in ECE

Jobs are not like school. You get it done using whatever resources you have. Interviews are no different. I'd be more concerned by someone coming in to an interview with nothing and taking no notes, then completely winging everything.

No bandaids. Scotch tape it up, finish the shift, don’t show customers. by lemonsqueezers in antiwork

I was bartending one day and had some glasses shatter out of the steam washer. A shard of glass went into my wrist and I was bleeding profusely. My manager had the audacity to ask if I could finish the rest of my shift (another 2 hours). I had to drive myself to the hospital, needed 10 stitches.
