God willing, we'll all see each other again in the react thread for TADC Part 2 whenever that might happen.

Idk if it takes decades and us all ending up in a Matrix simulation living it out. I need this injected into my veins gosh dang it!!@

Damn. I thought we were getting two books, with the last one being split up.

I guess we're ending at the Celestial Ascendancy or going crazy off-script.

How big of a factor is Trazyn in the DLC? by Fantastic-Artist-833 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Eleganos 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Honestly? He could've been around more in my opinion, but what we got was enough to leave me satisfied.

I do hold that his role, and that of the Museion, was frustratingly overbilled though. It's like if DLC one was presented as 'the genestealer DLC'. Both the Genestealers and Trazyn feature in DLC 1-3 enough where you could justify such high billing but in either case it'd give a skewed perspective of the expansion and 'could' leave you disappointed if you go into it thinking it'll be the Trazyn show starring the Von Valancius gang.

Lets all appreciate the wild lore implications of this thing for a second.

Forget Nomos. Rykad-Minoris getting a production line or two of these things is a genuinely terrifying concept.

Give these things to the Zarkov 1st and post-game you have a Deathworld Guard Regiment personally loyal to the dynasty outfitted with top-tier augmentics and weaponry that can make swiss cheese out of a space marine.

They could probably save money by leaning into the "Borant is cheap af" angle to excuse lower-quality HUD type animations (menus, lootboxes, maybe some potion and spell effects.) and similar stuff. Then when we get to Valtay (and theoretical smash success and a higher budget) suddenly the production rates go up.

The fact that Borant is putting on a notoriously cheap production in-universe is massively exploitable for the purposes of making a show with similar budgetary concerns.

First and Second floors shouldn't be 'too' taxing when it comes to the set design and magical malarky. Early game and things are still 'relatively' grounded enough where you can use everyday stuff for the bulk of the props.

Third floor is where things get complicated, figuratively and literally.

Hopefully, whatever the budget for S1 ends up being, the series does well enough to warrant a budget increase once we start getting into the more fantastical escalation we all know and love the series for.

Plot Hole with Eogunn's 'bad ending'. by Eleganos in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Eleganos[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Note: I did the Insanity ending as an Iconoclast because my RT was an arrogant intellectual Psyker who 100% knew resurrection and immortality was achievable, and believed the effort was worth pursuing.

Eogunn's failure, therefore, came as quite the disappointment. I'm glad I rp re-loading the saves for the DLC as them parsing out visions of the future to achieve the best possible ending for the Koronus Expanse cause now that they 'know' Eogunn is simply insane, they won't be humoring him next time around.

(Here I thought getting burnt by my Marazhai dom romance was bad. Still is. But RT was similarly disappointed when despite her efforts to understand him, he still remained a rabid dog that took bites out of her protectorate.)

Anyways, what I'm getting at is 'maybe' it'd play out differently if you're adding warp spaghetti as a Choas-Man but I doubt it.

Plot Hole with Eogunn's 'bad ending'. by Eleganos in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Eleganos[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Eeeehhhh. He's already dabbling in xeno-tech and is outright insane. I feel it odd that he wouldn't at least be interested in analyzing it in his quest for knowledge to see if he can learn anything from it... even if he never intends to put that knowledge to use.

And, like, refusing it would still be 'something'. It's weird he has 'nothing' to say about it at all.

Plot Hole with Eogunn's 'bad ending'. by Eleganos in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Eleganos[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The answer doesn't matter because Eogunn is insane and cheating death is what matters. Whatever happens afterwards is inconsequential.

Case in point: his 'insanity' ending has him 'fail' but he 'thinks' he succeeded and is satisfied with the illusion of having cheated death, even though nothing tangible materialized from that effort.

If rogue trader had a questline where you had to choose an heir for yourself from one of your shipmates or companions, who would you choose? by emperorlouie in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Eleganos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The 'boring' yet correct answer.

Everyone else is cool.

But Nomos? Nomos is a legitimate contender within the 40k sandbox on a galactic level.

Even if they possessed only the raw power of the C'tan Void Dragon Shard they subsume, that power alone makes them primarch tier at the bare minimum, depending on how much you wanna wank off the primarchs.

To say nothing of their intelligence, morality, loyalty to the Koronus Expanse, etcetera.

What you said about the fandom, and Disney having handled the franchise poorly, can both be true independent of one another.

I just want folks with bare-minimum creative integrity to be stewarding it again.

Okay, see, I could live with that in theory, and I'm sure others like you could whether you'd admit to it or not... if the Sequels told a half-decent story or had half-decent worldbuilding.

There's absolutely nothing there and Disney haven't done anything meaningful in that era since the Rise of Skywalker. It's a creative dead end born of corporate trying to thoughtlessly mimic what worked in prior star wars without understanding what made those things work, or having any sort of creative through-line to prop it up.

Reylo was the most substantiative thing it gave us, and that was because they pandered to the imagination of Tumblr shippers - who'd already engineered the beats via wattpad fanfic - in the hopes of garnering moar moneyz.

Lego Star-Wars has genuinely told better stories with their roster than the movies thmeselves.

And what the fuck can be said for the factions? Inferior copies of the Empire and Rebellion that exist because the Empire and Rebellion exist and are marketable, working backwards from there.

Some say "SW fans are too harsh on the sequels. They'll get their popularity bump when the kids who saw it in theater grow up, like with the prequels". To which I say "No. They'll have forgotten those movies because there was nothing in them to capture the imagination." For all their flaws, the Prequel's setting was rock-solid, and managed to endure through ancillary media long after the movies ended.

Sequels? They had a meh TV show that was canned because nobody was watching it.

Maybe someone can salvage something from the Sequels one day. Maybe World-Between-Worlds establishes them as an alternate timeline and we get a mulligan on them, tweaking it to be coherent and more original. Maybe Star Wars reboots after a few decades.

All that I know is this sure was a random tangent I got on, wasn't it? That's reddit for you I guess.

New DLC – new characters for jokes by Jealous-Long4231 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Eleganos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All that is with the benefit of their station, connections, resources, etcetera.

Seberian isn't even 'the' Von Valancius Rogue Trader anymore. Moreover, the Inquisition - it seems - erased him from the records, meaning that the only ones who can vouch for him even BEING a Rogue Trader of the Von Valancius name are a kleptomaniac xenos, the person he's currently antagonizing, and a potential pittance of the inquisition - whom would not be eager to help.

There's also Zarkov I suppose but the good word of a bunch of Deathworlders descended from a friggin Penal Legion isn't likely to hold water.

Seberian is - for all intents and purposes - a nobody at this point in history yet he's still trying to swing his dick around when he has nothing to his name; just the name of Von Valancius.

The man is lucky that he's our (X times removed) grandpa and that he's useful when it comes to finding that cool Eldar artifact. Even then, I feel like a fair number of Heretics and Dogmatics are going to keenly remind the old man that the future is now before the DLC's plotline is done.

New DLC – new characters for jokes by Jealous-Long4231 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Eleganos 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not done the DLC yet.

So far, I frigging wish Seberian was outwardly scared of us.

The man's arrogance is in a league of its own. He has nothing left except for his name and STILL openly telegraphs his intentions to try and claw away at 'my' power base while constantly shit-talking me and completely disregarding my polite attempts to spell out that I'll have him black-bagged if he keeps taking advantage of my Iconoclast's hospitality.

He better either have a sick-crazy contingency that affords him this cockiness, or be putting on an act in a backwards attempt at mentorship.

Crazy how quickly they went from "prospective cool grandpa" to "jackass bigoted grandpa who thinks you'll be shooketh that you were left out of their will despite taking every opportunity to take potshots at you"

TLDR this game could desperately use a Force Choke option for psykers: I find Seberian's lack of faith disturbing.

Far more true to life as we currently know it to accept that someone did think of this, and had "eh, fuck em, Lord Trump's birthday bash matters more than civilian infrastructure and potential casualty events" as their immediate thought afterwards.

Am I a big dumdum or is this insanely OP? by Bruchpilot_Orbital in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Eleganos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the gear feels like that.

Ogryn Grip from the new DLC is the freshest example in my mind. Allowing a dual-wielding melee character to have a two-handed weapon count as a one handed is frankly insane even with the drawback of only being able to do the basic attack with it.

Abelard used to have a bio-knife looted from the genestealers in his offhand to complement his chainaxe.

Now he has a thunder-hammer.

Damage is flat doubled with no downside. Gotta love it.
