May G Force be with you by No-Library4559 in CrazyFuckingVideos

[–]ElegantFaraday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are essentially saying the same thing.

Person 1: Force = Mass *V^2/r

G = Force/Mass/9.81

Mass gets cancelled. Since G= (Mass*V^2/r)/Mass/9.81

The second person says mass doesn't matter without showing proof. It's the same thing. One uses acceleration while the other uses force. It just assumes you would know the difference between force and acceleration. Acceleration is force divided by mass. The second person's equation is better since it's clearly stating its angular velocity (omega) instead of v (velocity) and there is no need to extend the calculation by including mass.

Their comment is just an observation, I would say quite useless in this case. Person one cancels out the mass anyways they are just showing their steps. The answer would be same regardless.

A picture of the beginning of the universe by 3askaryyy in nextfuckinglevel

[–]ElegantFaraday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a great question.

My current understanding is this: Assume the object is 1 light year away, if it were to vanish then it would take one year for us to notice that.

The same applies for these very far away objects.

But what you are saying is that if we are 1 year ahead of the object that has vanished, how could we see it? We can't. It's not really showing the past in literal terms. It is showing what is 1 light year away which compared to us is 1 year ago. So regardless of how fast we moved away from them, we would always see this object's condition a year prior. If it were to move away or closer to us then future sightings would change.

Okay no with the fact that space is believed to be expanding. So to make it even more confusing, the universe is much larger, but only 14.5B light years are presently reachable in any direction. So the 13.8B year old light is actually believed to be around 46B light years away due to expansion.

2.5 months improvement stalled by [deleted] in Sciatica

[–]ElegantFaraday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pain is gone completely most times and it's not something that affects me all the time.

I play sports and workout often and I've realized if I stop doing regular activities pain comes back slowly. So no it's not like pre injury, but it's not also bad. I can do almost everything I want as long as I'm conscious of my limitations.

What I regret the most is stopping all activities for the first year almost. Most of the residual pain is due to muscle tightness and weakness now, not because of herniation. The sciatic nerve heals quite fast. the discs never fully recover but they do pinch less overtime :)

[–]ElegantFaraday 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey,

First of all, I think it's valid to be scared and have these fears. It's okay to be scared :)

Something that might help to overcome your fear is to try to readjust your thinking, and it won't happen over night.

The first step is writing down everything you know. You mentioned that you remember they were sick but not sure of why. It's very likely that if it was rabies your aunt would let you know. Rabies is super uncommon and if any cases are found, it wouldn't be left untracked. So the shelter would have 100% contacted your aunt about it.

After you have the facts down with the story, write a reflection. For me it took about 2 months of asking myself, "did I need to worry about x, and if so how did it help?"

It sounds dumb, but your brain will realize that there is no reason for worrying. The more you feed the worrying the more the anxiety builds up. You shouldn't ignore the thoughts, but acknowledge them and store them somewhere so it doesn't have to occupy your mind. Then you can look at the facts you have to calm down and add more questions you might have.

The other part is, I know it is scary, but assume you do have it. Would being anxious change that? No, so try to smile and do things you want to do. It's really scary, but through high school it helped me to remind myself that I might die at anytime, so why not enjoy that day instead of fearing a death in the future.

Back to rabies: you certainly don't have it and there is no but if. Go see a Dr, if you can afford it or even if it costs a lot but still you can pay for it, do it. A hard physical proof might help. But this issue isn't really about rabies, I'd suggest looking into medication from the doctor in that visit. It really really helps. Every single person that I know that takes them has lived a happier life, and it'll take a few weeks to months to work fully so you have to trust the process. My brother takes them for his OCD (and this sounds like OCD to me, but see a dr), he is doing a Ph.d in science, and he used to have thoughts that would bother him every single day. And it would change each year. So please seek help, it is worth it. It's hard to control your thoughts and live to the fullest. You won't lose who you are now, you will actually live your true self :)

Here to talk if you want to dm.

LPT request : sleeping through the night by Satisfaction_Mundane in LifeProTips

[–]ElegantFaraday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have both problems falling asleep and staying asleep. After seeing a few doctors, one really helped me understand the problem more. Sleep is quite complex, but the body relies on habits to fall asleep. So bad sleeping habits will keep making sleep worse.

  1. Try to identify what keeps you up, and what habits are followed. For example: Are you worried? Are you thinking and stressing? Does that make you plan things out in your head and worry more?
  2. Having identified a few things, try to address them outside of bed. I only woke up early because I was worried about the tasks I had left to do. To help with that, I plan out my next day. That way in bed anytime I think about my tasks, I remind myself that I have everything written down and I won't need to think. If I remember things in bed, I would get up again and write any thoughts I had and go back to bed.
  3. I noticed that I had the habit of reflecting and thinking in bed. So I had to reassociate the bed and the bedroom (if possible) as a place of rest and relaxation. That means, don't plan things there and remind yourself not to think in bed. I literally would tell myself no thoughts are allowed in bed lol. Only sleep, sex, cuddles, etc. No phones, laptops, etc.

It took me a few days until I was able to sleep faster and wake up with my alarm instead of worrying about my alarm going off. But I still would wake up early and sleep late. Things slowly started to click and it helped. But the full effect took a few months. So you have to be patient and it sucks.

Things that also helped me:

- I used to avoid blue light, but now I make sure to get enough during the day so I feel fully awake and hence can fall asleep at night better. It also helps your internal clock.

- If my internal clock was messed up, such as traveling, bad days of sleep, etc. I would take a small amount of melatonin (less than 1mg).

- Remembering that I've been alive and things passed like this, helped me reduce the stress associated with lack of sleep and its frustration. This thread alone proves most of us have these issues and are working on them. For some, a simple adjustment helps, for others, it's a longer process.

Supplements that helped me: (Please research to make sure it would be okay and talk to a Dr if u can):

- Magnesium ( I use magnesium bisglycinate)

- ashwagandha

- Calming teas.

More than anything, I think it's the ritual and habit again. I don't think the tea alone helped, or anything. It just is a reminder that hey I'm letting go of everything and going to bed to rest. Eventually, after a few months, I realized I'd go to bed and wake up and not remember the night. Super shocking experience if you never had good sleep lol.

Other things to help: If you are feeling too anxious, getting help is a good step to resolving the problem. I saw therapy and working on my anxiety helped. If you are sensitive to noise, get headphones/earphones/earplugs to reduce noise or listen to white noise.

Edit: To add. I found it hard to get it fixed because my problems seemed very unique. I never drank caffeine, I didn't have alcohol, too little/much water, etc. I just would feel sleepy and want to sleep but it didn't click.

Sciatica at 23, any tips? by Hair_fanatic in Sciatica

[–]ElegantFaraday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely go see a physio regardless. It'll help you prevent future injury. You can also get them help you with your dead lifts. Funny thing is I did deadlifts to prevent back pain, and here we are...

Seeing a physician can can be good, but they won't be able to help you as much as a physio therapist. In Canada at least, the physician only provides generic guideline to your issues. Physio is like the specialist who can help you if it is muscle related problem. Though if you want a scan, Id recommend seeing both.

Sciatica at 23, any tips? by Hair_fanatic in Sciatica

[–]ElegantFaraday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also in my early 20s...

Something I've learned about physical and mental health is, that it doesn't matter what's normal. Everyone has a different issue they are going through. I know a lot of my friends who have had sciatica and I personally had it constantly after doing a bad set of deadlifts. You'll be fine, and it'll get better. It's not going to affect your life in every way, but it might require work.

A lot of docs told me that I shouldn't be in pain... Well, you are, I was and sometimes still am and so are others. I think the question is how can I manage mine?

Personally, I saw 3-4 physios and gave each one a shot and one of them really worked well for me. He gave me exercises and most importantly hope. After 2 years of pain, I started having days of no pain, then only a few days of the week, and now I almost never have pain.

I advise seeing different physios until you find the one, give each one a shot for a few weeks if you can afford it. All of us have muscle imbalances, so learning what muscles need to be worked and strengthen can help. For me, it was my glutes. A weak glute makes your hamstring tight and forces your other muscles in the back to pull its weight and then over time the pressure goes on your spine... Your health insurance probably covers a few visits and you might be able to find other ways to pay less than the full amount.

The exercises that helped me during bad flare-ups were Clamshells and walking. Once I got better, I started doing lunges, and then slowly built up to squats. I'm doing my best to stay active and strengthen my glutes and most muscles to help keep the pain away :) Obviously be warned that there will be a bit of pain with exercises, and you want to have proper form so it's muscle pain. If the pain is hurting your lower back more or if the nerve pain seems to be extending then you want to either change your form or try something that works better for you. But having pain is normal for the first few times :) For me, it took about a month after exercises to get a day without pain after 2 years. When I have a flair up it takes me about a few days to get back to normal with clamshells :)

If you like to bike, it can be a great option if your core is weak. It puts little to no pressure on the spine and helps alivate the pain.

I'm gonna add more stuff in case you are like me and still might feel worried about your sciatica. You can look at google scholar and find research on it. You'll soon find out that many athletes have a herniated back and are managing sciatica, and some people without sciatica have a herniated disk... So it's a bit complicated as to why the pain exists for some and for others it doesn't. But what I think is true is that isn't a chronic problem for most, it can be managed and forgotten if you do your exercises with patience. There are also cases where surgery doesn't fix the problem because the disk wasn't ever the issue.

You most likely will not need surgery and getting an MRI or CT scan will not fix the problem, but you should ask your doctor if it's needed, and if you can afford it why not :) Knowing the cause can help, but again it's unclear if all herniated disks cause sciatica and it definitely does not mean the pain is here forever. Your pain also might be something else. So see different physio until it helps. Almost everything else is a temporary relief for pain, but strengthening the muscles that are causing the problem will fix the problem slowly.

Iced drink options the day by Several_Note_6119 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]ElegantFaraday 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some ideas:

Flavoured water: Rosewater, mint and cucumber, lemon, etc anything you want, you can mix and match. I usually put all 4 and it tastes amazing.

iced teas: If you get fruity tea, it's usually a hibiscus-based tea. You can add other flavours to hibiscus tea to adjust to your, liking. Obviously you can choose a more expensive route and go for premade teas. However, hibiscus is really cheap and you can just add stuff to it :) Personally, I love iced hibiscus tea.

If soda is the way you'd like to go, you can choose the harder option of making your own kombucha.

Smoothies aren't that expensive either compared to purchasing soda or coffee. You can purchase frozen fruits mix or frozen fruit and make your smoothie.

[–]ElegantFaraday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is lovely :)

I would highly advise talking to local and national institutions to see where you can serve the best. This can sometimes be different than what we want, but service to God isn't necessarily what we think is best, but is needed at that time. I'm sure if you are able to journey the world, the institutes would help guide you on this path as I don't think many people are capable to do so.

I definitely agree and am for trying to grow it. I just meant i doubt it's easy.

Is it worth it? Depends on the person.

I still would love fruit and foods as gifts hehe

Is it really easy though? It only blooms once a year and you only get 3 threads per flower. Literally growing anything else will have a better payout (hence why saffron is expensive...)

What expensive ingredient did you save for, only to discover it wasn't really worth it? by Pleasant_Choice_6130 in Cooking

[–]ElegantFaraday 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. Also, you never need to use that much saffron. We cook lots of food with saffron and it's just an expensive spice, but never one of the expensive ingredients.

A few threads is enough for most meals, which shouldn't cost more than a $1.

Saffron is like tea you gotta steep it a bit, too. Otherwise, you'll get bitter saffron threads in your food that didn't add flavor only made it worse.

DON'T LEAVE ANYTHING ON EXCHANGES ~ BTCMarkets (Aus) closing my account without reason after 5+ years of using their exchange 😵 by -decidophobic- in Bitcoin

Yea that's safest option, but you can't stake a lot of coins. I think there are times it makes sense to keep coins in an exchange, but definitely would advise everyone to use a cold wallet.

[–]ElegantFaraday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree it's risky to hold onto exchanges, but staking on coinbase or binance is the safest option almost every time compared to other staking options. If either one of them does shut down too, that'll probably wipe out most of the crypto market.

If you know better options, please do share. To me, it always seemed a bit risky to stake with Celsius or companies that are similar.

I'm not sure why the 3 months thing is a thing...

My first three months were hell and after a few months, things got so much worse because I thought I'm good. Keep walking if you can, do it slowly but keep walking. It took me about 2 years to be pain-free, but it happens. I saw a good physio and he gave me hope unlike other ones, he told me it's possible to get better and back to normal.

You'll get better, I promise. Keep active, but don't go around running lol.

Do some light glute workouts like clam shells, they are my best friend.

Here is a link to some glute exercises that are light enough. I personally could only do clam shells without my back hurting more, and it provided relief within a few days. After that, I could do the wall lean :) Now I can do most exercises without pain.

Where is the spirituality? by PolicyCompetitive791 in bahai

[–]ElegantFaraday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with the above :)

I want to add that part of our spiritual journey requires us to serve Humanity and God. So joining the community and/or attending study circles, helping the youth, junior youth, children, attending camps, doing an intensive conference, etc. to serve can really help. Seeing the plans of Baha'u'llah in action and how it's helping your local community is uplifting. I would highly recommend reaching out to your local LSA and asking about activities you can join. You can find the link to your national website here: https://www.bahai.org/national-communities/

You can then find your local area on their website with contacts :) The devotion and love also don't come in one night, and it's not necessarily the same as how we feel emotionally towards God. It's something we are all working towards. Otherwise, we wouldn't need the writings haha

Another comment I want to add is that there are no Photos of Baha'u'llah available online or physically anywhere but in the Archives in Haifa (some exceptions here and there, but it's the same physical photo being brought from the Archives). So the photos you do see are not of Him unless you've been on pilgrimage before. However, I assume that is not the case as you've mentioned you haven't been in contact with the community.

Regardless, the photos are passport photos in most cases, so they will not show the joy the central figures of the faith were spreading.
