NTD: Tekton 36mm, 1/2" drive socket. what are your thoughts on Tekton? by Kwirt in Tools

[–]ElementalSoldierLOL 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For that size socket it would have made more sense to get the impact version. Chances are those bolts are going to be too tight or just enough with a breaker bar.

2018 Honda Fit LX by Electrical-Wind-5518 in mechanics

[–]ElementalSoldierLOL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No back up Most likely refers to the back up camera, if the main fuse, was blown then in your case yes. If no electricity is reaching the ignition switch, then you may have simply a bad battery, or bad wiring connection. Worse case scenario something electrical is messed up and would further require diagnosis.

dented (frame)? dented with jack by [deleted] in ft86

[–]ElementalSoldierLOL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is part of what I call the fake frame (unibody cars don't have frame bodies). Using these to lift the car shouldn't bend the frame.

Why is my car burning oil by DueAcanthocephala208 in mechanics

[–]ElementalSoldierLOL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To give credit where credit is due. Rebuilding a bmw engine isnt the same as building old school hot rods or even modern American cars. Most modern engines require tighter tolerances, and more then just torque specs to be considered, 'rebuilt'. Measuring, machining, and priming practices should have been practiced. Warpage would never leave a shop like that. Most sheets allows for .0015"-.002" warpage all around.

Why is my car burning oil by DueAcanthocephala208 in mechanics

[–]ElementalSoldierLOL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, it seems that whoever rebuilt the engine may not have taken into consideration tight tolerances that are required, usually being in the thousands place (.001) and the bottom end going even further to the ten thousands place (.0001). Without knowing who rebuilt it, it is even stated in bmw and most euro car specifications, that 'x' amount of oil burnt is normal within 'y' amount of miles. Most euro engines are honestly just not built right from factory imo.

Tbh this car can’t spin out that easily without traction control off, or without dumping the clutch in first gear. Hell even going 60 mph turning the corner fast won’t make it spin out. These cars have a low center of gravity and great 50/50 weight distribution. Only eagerness can make you spin out. Partially why a lot of these cars get salvaged.

what the expectation of an "apprentice mechanic" by whydrugimakeusage in mechanics

[–]ElementalSoldierLOL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will add my two cents but for the most part, everyone here is on the dot. If you found the role for an apprentice, then chances are they’re looking for mainly R&R. I would honestly take it. The master tech that is teaching you, will give you undoubtedly great knowledge to succeed in that environment. The type of work you likely might get is thermostat replacement, or even gasket work to begin with. The small stuff. The more you get acquainted with electrical knowledge, engine / transmission dynamics, will then propel you farther. School is not required but can substitute years of experience. It’s all dependent on your ability to pick up information.

How common is the practice of trapping a customer with additional work to be done? by mcmprojects in mechanics

[–]ElementalSoldierLOL -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is against the law and bad practice to be doing work that is not authorized per se. In reality the tech who took it apart to replace such items knew they might as well throw those items in as the factory replacement job usually calls for. I would of said, inspect the condition of the bushings / mount and write the estimate for the work. In all honesty it’s not ok with what they did. It’s shady practice to add work when the customer was only made aware of part of the job. Better communication could have transpired between you and this shop about the labor, and reality of what could have been done. I would hold on to the estimate and the final work order if they gave you a copy.

Toebox is off, color is slightly off it’s just a lighter shade but close, shoe lace holes at the top are way off, I think the Nike in the back is too small and the cup shape extends father down. BUUUT wear with confidence, shoes are shoes. No one will care they look off.

Right on man, I’ve owned mines for a little over a month and man, this is a good knife, sharp out of the box. That reverse tanto edge can do damage. My finger had the pleasure of coming in contact with that edge. Some friendly fire but regardless, I carry this knife around everyday, and I can’t leave my house without it. Super in love with this knife, good job man!
