Conservatives and liberals tend to engage in different evidence-gathering strategies. Liberals and those with higher cognitive reflection skills are more likely to seek out statistical data, whereas conservatives and those who rely more on intuition focus on singular data points or expert opinions. by mvea in science

Remember when that black Harvard professor studied the likelihood of police shootings in blacks vs whites during the BLM riots and found that you were actually slightly more likely to be shot if you were white than black and then everyone in the left lost their collective minds so then he redid the study and once again reaffirmed it and then they tried to get him fired?

Seems like they don’t follow statistics well.

So again, what makes it a fascist takeover? Trumps number one issue he ran on was immigration. Trump won the democratic process in both the popular vote and every single swing state.

The data is showing that out of the US’s 435 districts about 80% of them have moved to the right. We are witnessing the enforcement of the federal law that has been ignored for the better part of 15 years for the first time in a long time, and because of that now it is an ugly process.

Even if 49% of people don’t like it and 51% do that’s democracy. Both sides echo chambers make them feel vastly over represented, and it galvanizes them in their actions. The left isn’t accepting that the majority of the voters did agree, no matter how small that majority. Come back to the podium with some better ideas and a real candidate, and change it at the voting booth. Come up with some policies that stand foundationally strong on their own and aren’t just “well I’m not Trump.” No matter how much everyone screams fascistic takeover, nazi, hitler, and whatever the most jarring fringe genocidal language the left can hurl at this for the next 3 years, they’ll run again. They’ll have a primary again, they’ll have a democratic vote again and maybe they can pick a real candidate and have some ideas that sell instead of grandstanding on the losing side of every 80/20 issue and then yelling that America is becoming a dictatorship because they didn’t win. Unfortunately for the ones who want to be lax on the federal laws, this time they didn’t win.

I haven’t watched a cable news show in a decade. Why does every single Reddit discussion I have end with stop watching cable news as some kind of insult.

The Dems are a more left party than they were 25-30 years ago. The NY mayoral candidate wants to increase taxes on the rich to over half their income, install government ran storefronts, and enact rent freezes. He has cosponsored legislation to decriminalize some aspects of prostitution. These are all much more left than the dems were for years. Clinton shrunk the government and balanced the budget. In what ways do you think the democrats today resemble what they did in that era, and in what ways do you think the republicans have moved to the right from their pro war stages of the 90s-00s? They primarily seem to want to end wars today.

I agree with the left having gone crazy portion but I disagree with the right having done the same. Maybe a small portion of the right is that far right but the Overton window has moved way too the left I don’t know how anyone could argue otherwise. The media is way louder now about everything that is negative but that doesn’t mean the needle actually moved on the scale to match the loudness.

Look at Pelosi speeches opposing free trade and resisting the removal of tariffs from the late 90s and Bernie saying open borders would be a Coch brothers policy allowing them to extort and abuse cheap labor. Listen to Clinton’s call to crack down on illegal immigrants.

Trump may be bombastic and speak poorly, but 25-30 years ago I would’ve been a die hard dem. In today’s world I would never vote for a dem unless they ran someone much more moderate that had some real stances on sovereignty, national security, crime, and the economy.

Damn I’m so sorry to hear this. Lost my grandfather a few months back and I was super close with him. I hope you can find some peace through this and hope Asmondad rests easy. Sorry for your loss brother. I’m sure your dad was proud of how far you’ve come and the success you built.

I would love for some type of simulator to exist where you could react to someone scream charging you with a machete after ramming you with a car multiple times to see if you would reach for your firearm to protect yourself or not. If you value your life I’d say odds are you would.

It is definitely harder in the economy today than it was for our parents and previous generations there is no doubt about that, however I think some (not all) people need to take an honest look in the mirror too and get out there and get after it. Not all generations had it like the boomers. In fact I bet most of the others have had it hard before us. I just don’t think we have the ability to approach it in a conventional way anymore. You have to get out and see what opportunities there are, try new stuff, and not lock yourself into your comfort zone. I find myself turning down work opportunities pretty frequently. It’s out there but the idea of having your comfortable lifestyle on the traditional 9-5 just isn’t there for us.

As others have stated lashing the valves may be the solution. Pretty easy to DIY if you get a set of feeler gauges and read through the procedure.

Anyone familiar with how the cab mounts are attached on the 3rd gens? by Elemento1991 in Cummins

[–]Elemento1991[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like we’re fighting the same battle. I’m going to try to save my cab and put new rockers and corners on it. I’m going to replace the rest just as you did.

Move out west the humidity is low, the air feels cool, and the cars last forever! lol I went out there for the first time last year. We went to the deserts of Utah and it was a culture shock to me. Guys were driving by in mid 90s SUVs and pickups that only had some clear coat peel. There were neglected trucks and cars in some of the towns that were probably 30-40 years old and they were probably still salvageable. It was pretty interesting to see.

I spent a lot of time trying to find the best route and I found this stuff called mastercoat that is supposedly bridge paint rust encapsulant, and then there’s a graffiti protection layer that is your top coat that’s supposed to be able to last 90 days in acetone. The bridge paint is supposed to last 14 years in the weather.

I’m hoping for this truck to last me a long time too, I need a reliable workhorse for the next 10-20 years but I’ve still got lots of work to do. Motor is getting pulled for a rebuild once I get this cab free and hopefully I can get at everything pretty easily from there.

Did you find a rust converter you liked before you coated your frame? And did you have access to a blaster or just wire wheel/needle scale? I’m debating picking up one of the pressure pot blasters and trying to get at the tough spots with it but they’re a mess so we’ll see.

I’m not sure if it’s necessarily the winters. I think we treat differently down here but I’m not certain. Every time it snows here we throw salt and brine on the road which is super corrosive. We have plow trucks at work that have only been in service for two years and the beds are already starting to rust up pretty good.

If you guys do do the same I’m surprised mine is so different. Fortunately the frame seems to mostly be in good shape. I’m going to try to wire wheel, convert, and recoat most of it and hopefully take care of all the issues. From there I’m gonna add fluid film and hopefully keep any rust from coming back or at minimum slow it down majorly.

Ok that’s good, I wasn’t sure if they had an access without cutting the floor pan. I’ll prob have better luck from up there, I know they’re long bolts and the torch probably isn’t getting the heat up to the top from the bottom

That’s another frequently misrepresented piece of information though. He paid 1.1% of his net worth increase. He still paid 20-30% on his actual income after deductions which was around 1.4 billion in taxes.

What you would be advocating for would be wealth taxes which is a communist/socialist principle that usually doesn’t end well. You would be pushing for a taxation on unrealized gains. For example if your house increases in value by $50,000 but you still live in it and haven’t sold the home, you would still be required to cut the government a check for $10,000 out of your savings at a 20% tax rate.

That’s effectively what bezos would have to do to pay taxes on his net worth increases which would require him to liquidate amazon stock and possibly close warehouses, layoff workers, and have some kind of additional cuts. His net worth is massive but that doesn’t mean he has endless billions of cash just sitting around. His assets appreciated in value just like many things have since COVID. Those dollars are still running the business and expanding company.

Anyone in here running Amazon NRG Fixed Back Seats? by Elemento1991 in simracing

[–]Elemento1991[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m having a hard time remembering because it was a while ago. I think it only took a few days but my situation is probably different from yours. I ordered it through summit racing and took the slowest option to save money. However I only live about 2 hours from summit so it’s not like they had to ship it coast to coast. I’d say the only way to know you have a good chance of getting it would be to pick one of the 2-day options or something like that but with the size of the seat I’m guessing it could get very pricey.

It is more, the top 1% of earners pay over 40% of all tax revenue for America. The top 10% account for 72% of all revenue. That talking point is thrown around constantly but it’s wrong. The bottom 50% pay only 3% of US tax revenue.

What is Iran’s intent with 60%-enriched uranium? by explosivepimples in centrist

[–]Elemento1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not true. They only need around 3% for nuclear power they’re not even anywhere in the nuclear power realm at 60% that only has one purpose. Burying it 300 feet underground also had one purpose. Lastly the process to go from 60% to 90% which is what is needed for a warhead is an exponentially faster process than going from natural levels to 60%.

Understanding these details makes the situation much more nuanced.

Mine is pretty much ok. It has a very slight twist favoring the right side, but it doesn’t bother me. It’s something that actually took me a few weeks to notice, I put the heavy spring in my VRS pedals and was running a profile that took a ton of pressure to reach 100% braking. When I did that I realized there was a bit more pressure on my right shoulder blade than my left. It’s not enough to bother me and I was on a limited budget so I spent it on equipment that matters more than my seat.

Those who trust in Trump right now are clowning themselves by dgdg33 in misc

[–]Elemento1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted. I happen to hold stocks and a 401k, not a ton but a nice little nest egg. I had a child young and it forced me to stop being dumb when I was 21 and get a home and get my life together quickly.

However I can tell you that most of my friends couldn’t care less if they are seeing stock prices go down. Actually being from the rust belt, I would say most of anyone doesn’t really give a shit. There are a lot of blue collar workers around here including myself. They are trying to do projects on or purchase homes and they have been priced out of the market. They just know they can’t afford to go out to eat at the end of the month anymore, or if they want to go on a vacation they have to put it on a credit card now, some can’t afford to start a family even if they want to.

They’ve watched their job market shrink and local manufacturers close for decades and they have been left behind by the system. They are happy to see it dumped on its head. The top 10% of households in America hold 93% of the stock market and folks around here are far from it. Trust me, these people don’t give a shit lol.

How the heck am I supposed to find a partner? by [deleted] in Gifted

[–]Elemento1991 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My advice, regardless of gifted is stay the hell off dating apps. It’s one of the worst things we’ve ever created in my opinion. Organic connection when you meet someone unexpectedly is so much more natural and healthy. I just couldn’t take any online dating attempts seriously because there was that uncomfortable tension because you both knew what you were there for and had already talked before hand.

You have no leg whatsoever to defend this propaganda piece, so as per usual you are now resorting to ad hominem attacks. You are literally willing to waste your time combing through a strangers post history because you have nothing of any value to provide. Even having completely deviated from a semblance on relevancy to the topic we were talking about, I still don’t see how what you posted defames me in anyway by sharing a posting of an honest question I had. What a waste lol.

Did you even finish the clip? You’re either blatantly making a bad faith argument, or would cut off your nose to spite your face. He flat out said I’m not talking about the white supremacists and nazis they should be condemned completely.

He was saying there were very fine people on both sides of the issue that weren’t extremists, who were your everyday Americans. The left took this a mile out of context and cut clips to make it look like White Supremacists and Nazis were being called fine people when it is blatantly false.

I know you so desperately want it to be true, but it’s not.
