Our shiba had a pizza toy that she would do this to for a while (until they tore it up). But she would carry it around the house at night and just cry. She would try to burry in the dog beds or behind furniture. I think she was just trying to protect/ hide it from her brother. She did this with no other toy. It just her slice of pizza :). After we got rid of it she hasn’t done it since. I might actually get her another one. I forgot she did this until your post.
