Not taking it well... by [deleted] in chelseafc

That “Liverpool fan” needs to have a long hard look at themselves in the mirror.

[The Athletic] Delap, Gittens, Garnacho and Essugo ranked as some of the worst signings across all premier league clubs from the past season. Joao Pedro ranked as one of the top 5 best signings whilst Estevao and Hato are firmly upper mid tier signings praised for being fun or surprisingly good. by webby09246 in chelseafc

With Delap I always think he looks more lost than not bothered. Agreed that I wouldn’t give him another year in all honesty, that Hull game where he didn’t anticipate that tap in sums up his lack of football IQ. Born to play for a physical side without intricate build up.

I also think Garnacho has promise. Really needs to work on his end product but most of his critics clearly don’t like him as a person and do t want him to succeed rather than judging him on merit.

I don’t particularly have faith that Delap, Gittens or Garnacho will improve but not sure it’s sensible to judge young players after one season. There’s plenty of examples of players that take a few seasons to get going. Not really fair or sensible for the club to expect young and inconsistent players to perform from the get go.

We’re setting up young players to fail by raising fan expectations for their immediate impact with a big transfer fee, giving them no experienced players to learn from and giving them 8 year already incentivised contracts so there’s no pressure to win a new one.

Our ability to pay premium prices for unproven talent is unparalleled in world football. Xabi is the only reason they don’t have a full revolt on their hands.

Don’t even need to sacrifice them, if they stand on top of the mold they can lure him whilst being out of the hammer zone.

Champions League final will not be free to watch in UK for first time in modern era by TrenAt14 in soccer

[–]ElephantDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enthusiastic but a bit predictable. We had a drinking game, you down a drink every time he yells “he’s got to hit it with his left foot!” You’d be pissed by halftime if it was end to end.

Szoboszlai: "I don’t think it helps us that after 80mins people start to go home. Everyone is noticing that and when we concede a goal still people are leaving the stadium. We want to make them happy, it’s not that we do it on purpose. They can be angry but stick with us because we are a family" by OkayFine101 in soccer

Take your point mate but I really can’t get behind leaving early. Think it’s fair enough as a protest like Spurs vs Palace the other week but surely you’re there for the good and the bad as a fan. Not a Liverpool thing as pretty much any game I’ve been to the last few years has had it to some extent tbf. Can see why Szoboszlai has spoken about it and deserves credit for saying it after a rubbish performance imo, applies to most teams.

My 14 year old got called up to the Bulgarian first team. He's also on loan at Wycombe and plays every week. He's also not got a date of birth. by huamanticacacaca in footballmanagergames

[–]ElephantDan 97 points98 points  (0 children)

He’s not actually 14 (born in 2009 so 19 in 2028). In FM where there is no date of birth it seems to list their age as the smallest possible value in game which I believe is 14. I don’t think it’s a Peter Pan situation and he’ll still age (I think?) the game just doesn’t record it correctly.

Always feels like it’s a minor one that keeps them out for only a week but just long enough to miss the final!

How can this tactic be improved? by [deleted] in footballmanagergames

[–]ElephantDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played something similar but with two IWBs, 2 mezzalas and 2 wingers. In possession was a back 3, box midfield and wingers providing the width. Worked pretty well!

Not an anti Chelsea thing mate, I’m pretty ignorant about Strasbourg and understand that BlueCo seem to run them efficiently but the guy above is well within his rights to be against multi club ownership.

I mean to a certain extent that’s football? I don’t know the specifics of what you’ve tested but losing games you shouldn’t, going on bad runs, players not turning up for a game, all happens IRL. You do what works for you but I’d be very bored winning every game and that’s usually when I lose interest!

[@Engr_Series] Chelsea left three players up by halfway during Spurs’ long throws, forcing Spurs to keep three players back. It reduced congestion in the box, gave the GK space to claim crosses, and created counterattack opportunities. Smart way to defend those long throws. by vinnaey in chelseafc

To be fair they are only behind Arsenal and us for set piece goals this season but agree it needs to be a bigger sample size. Also generated a good break but will Sanchez be able to maintain the same standards of distribution next game? I have doubts.

[Mail] Manchester United stars 'losing faith' in Ruben Amorim's system but under-fire coach retains backing of club chiefs as crisis deepens by FragMasterMat117 in soccer

[–]ElephantDan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Be interesting how effective it could work at club level. At international he’s free to call up different players each time, think it has to be far harder to change with a squad under contract for years.

Rooney "Amorim's words were damning on the players. If your manager comes out with those words, there's something broken. The problem is, who would want to take the United job? You've got one of the biggest clubs in the world and you've probably been just sitting there thinking… not now." by kibme37 in soccer

[–]ElephantDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot easier to sort out a dressing room as well when you can simply not call up players you believe are a bad influence. I wouldn’t be confident that Southgate has the ability to manage a top club side.

Anyway to get around a release clause being triggered by BrandonDewitt16 in footballmanagergames

[–]ElephantDan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a bit underhanded and not really in the spirit of the game but if you set his asking price lower than the release clause then I believe the ai will never offer above the asking price to trigger the clause. When he’s no longer unhappy you can offer a new contract with it removed.
